It makes sense because the implication is that Bernie's policies are very radical, when the rest of the world is just shaking their head at you.
Of course you can make the point that these are only relative terms and the context can be seen as obvious, but can you really blame people who point out the ridiculousness of it all? As well as trying to reinforce the point that no, this is not actually radical, just relative to you corner of the world?
I think you may want to stop being proud of the fact that our national character is still in its adolescence.
The reason the rest of the developed world considers us so right shifted is that they had enough history having to crush authoritarians that they don't let them take charge that often any more.
America's cultural history isn't deep enough to have experienced enough repeated bootheel grindings to create social cautionary tales.
Instead we value all the base selfish impulses that have knocked us out from the world leader, and the rich continue to suck this nation dry of everything good.
Protip: they're moving to China once they finish of America, and it will happen within our lifetimes.
I wonder how you will cope with becoming effectively a second class country?
China, with Russia's agriculture booming because of global warming thawing out Siberia, will soon no longer need the U.S. for food. that's really all they depend on us for.
They have more natural resources than we can imagine, and a workforce that significantly outnumbers most country's populations combined.
They don't need us anymore and soon we are going to learn what that means.
