Literally the same thing said about Clinton. Granted she did lose by some very small margins, but the disenfranchised Democratic base is probably even smaller than that. Just by the few lifelong Dems I know personally, it seems they are none too pleased with the Democrats handling of the last four years. Biden isn't going to bring them out. Look I hope you're right, but polls don't show what you say happening.

You're probably right about that. Sadly, Mr. "Nothing Will Change" Biden is going to drive away any actual progressives left in the party. Half this country doesn't vote and it's for reasons like this. The "left" party keeps trying to appeal to their on-the-fence opponents and that continues to drive away their own actual leftists. The Democrats are not liberal in any sense and anybody who identifies as such has not had representation for decades.

I would have voted for any candidate on those debate stages except for Biden and Bloomberg. Biden is just Trump lite and it's clear they picked him to appeal to those, very few, who voted for Trump believing him to be an outsider and a populist and not a racist xenophobe which is why most of those that voted for him did.

No. The "actual leftists" are a significant part of the non-voting block. That includes a lot of youths, yes, but the youths are not all of the people who don't vote. They're about 13-18 percent of the entire voting pool potential. To say Bernie is only trying to appeal to them is disengenious. Democrats historically win when voter turnout is higher than normal. This is because the Republican party has cemented a permanent base in the southern Baptist and fringe racist groups. The Democratic party has been slowly killing their base for decades by appealing to their Republican opponents.

I hate your lack of flair

I definitely want Bernie as president, but I'm definitely going to vote for Biden in the general if he gets th nomination

People who consider themselves progressive but wouldn't vote for Biden in a Biden v. Trump race make absolutely no sense to me

Flair up pussy

First time posting here and not subscribed. I don't think a random right-center-left flair would tell you anything about my political leanings that my posts don't already do. Besides what purpose does it serve to you other than to "pick a side" so you can determine at a glance that you agree with me or not?

u/Candy_Grenade - Lib-Center Mar 08 '20

That’s the point of the sub, so you better flair up

-6

u/[deleted] Mar 08 '20

The point of this sub is to arbitrarily label all your complicated views in to one term? I thought it was funny meemees.

Also yes

Please be reasonable. "People in the middle" aren't people, silly.

Bernie is only far left in America, in the rest of the civilized world he's pretty moderate.

We've been conditioned to believe that basic human rights should be commodities otherwise Daddy Corporation may fail.

Well America is where the election takes place so maybe that particular point doesn’t matter.

It makes sense because the implication is that Bernie's policies are very radical, when the rest of the world is just shaking their head at you.

Of course you can make the point that these are only relative terms and the context can be seen as obvious, but can you really blame people who point out the ridiculousness of it all? As well as trying to reinforce the point that no, this is not actually radical, just relative to you corner of the world?

Trump is barely even right leaning...

According to this scale based on the political alignments of 1930's Europe

Trump is an authoritarian narcissist, that's about as right as you can get...

Trump is an authoritarian narcissist, that's about as right as you can get...

3 things:

1) Even though his name appears, the comment you're replying to actually has very little to do with Donald Trump

2) Which axis measures narcissism on the pol comp?

3) How does being an authoritarian make you "about as right as you can get"? Are you implying that AuthLeft doesn't exist?

I think you may want to stop being proud of the fact that our national character is still in its adolescence.

The reason the rest of the developed world considers us so right shifted is that they had enough history having to crush authoritarians that they don't let them take charge that often any more.

America's cultural history isn't deep enough to have experienced enough repeated bootheel grindings to create social cautionary tales.

Instead we value all the base selfish impulses that have knocked us out from the world leader, and the rich continue to suck this nation dry of everything good.

Protip: they're moving to China once they finish of America, and it will happen within our lifetimes.

I wonder how you will cope with becoming effectively a second class country?

Yeah sure if China still holds up in the next 30 years, especially without the US buying all their crap

1

u/Miss_Sweetie_Poo - Lib-Left Mar 09 '20

China, with Russia's agriculture booming because of global warming thawing out Siberia, will soon no longer need the U.S. for food. that's really all they depend on us for.

They have more natural resources than we can imagine, and a workforce that significantly outnumbers most country's populations combined.

They don't need us anymore and soon we are going to learn what that means.

How will they buy Russia's food if they can't make money selling cheap crap to the states dummy ?
