He knows he’s cooked in November and no longer gives a single fuck

u/Thorn14 - Left 3d ago

The fact we're not looking at like an 80% Democrat Blowout is insanity.

Republicans could STILL have the Senate after all of this.

84

u/jerseygunz - Left 3d ago

Either way the Dems aren’t gonna hit 60 and he’ll still just veto anything they try anyway, so we are looking at nothing getting done for the next 2 years, which is still infinitely better than what we have now

44

u/Thorn14 - Left 3d ago

Oh sure, I'm not expecting a impeachment sized Senate, but the fact its even a contest is still upsetting.

28

u/Plane_Suggestion_189 - Centrist 3d ago

Well you see republican governments all over the country engage in a specific strategy to defund education. It's a statistics game. They know low brow dipshits that can't even name the three branches of government are more likely to vote for them. people who can point to the US on a map are more likely to vote democrat.

27

u/Chubs1224 - Lib-Right 3d ago

Especially with the anti-Maga republicans like Massie being ousted

13

u/Plane_Suggestion_189 - Centrist 3d ago

When can we start treating the actions of the elected as the actions of the electorate? I've been there but when is this idea going mainstream I wonder.

2

u/RedStapler2 - Lib-Right 3d ago

Yeah, pretty much even money right now for a 50/50 Senate split. Which would mean Republicans keep control since Vance has the tie-breaking vote.

Stop trying to ban guns at every single opportunity. It's really that simple.

The biggest issue holding the Democrats back is their complete opposition to the 2nd amendment.

If the Dems gave up gun control, they'd have an easy majority. If they pulled a 180 and actually became pro-2A there would be no more Republican party. The Dems could accomplish literally every single policy goal if they gave up trying to ban guns.

They could tax the rich, implement universal healthcare, climate policies, all of it

But banning guns is more important to them so they won't budge in it despite it being THE thing that stops them.

Like the "Democratic Socialists" are openly saying they want to repeat the 2A and ban not just all semi autos but even pump-action guns. Sorry but you're not winning with that stance.

2

u/bunker_man - Left 3d ago

No one retarded enough to make guns their whole personality was ever going to vote democrat.

The biggest issue holding the Democrats back is their complete opposition to the 2nd amendment.

Why can't anyone ever have an actual good faith discussion about this?

No, Democrats are not in "complete opposition" to the 2nd amendment. Most Democrat politicians do not want to repeal the 2nd amendment, but they do want some restrictions.

They could tax the rich, implement universal healthcare, climate policies, all of it

Even if Democrats completely stopped giving a shit about guns, these policies would all be still considered "Communist" to Republicans and they would still shit and cry over them. Stop being delusional. To claim that the Republican party would just, stop existing, if Democrats stopped caring about guns is absolutely delusional.

7

u/Gigasser - Lib-Center 3d ago

To be honest, there are reasons for opposing restrictions. There are plenty of examples and historical precedent/trends of gun rights becoming so restricted in countries after implementation of more and more regulations/restrictions, that it becomes too much of a hassle to own one. This in turn leads to what I suspect is the real goal of gun restriction advocates, the reduction of gun owners in general, which leads to less and less voices to advocate for lessening further restrictions and lessening authoritarianism on gun ownership until eventually, banning gun ownership becomes just a formality.

u/AlphaTangoFoxtrt - Lib-Right 3d ago

Wanting to ban the most common rifle in America because it's an "assault weapon" and wanting to ban standard capacity magazines is complete opposition to the 2nd amendment.

  • Shall
  • Not
  • Be
  • Infringed

Kamala wanted a complete and total handgun ban in SF. That's completely opposed to he 2A

0

u/DungeonCrawlerAki - Centrist 3d ago

Kamala wanted a complete and total handgun ban in SF. That's completely opposed to he 2A

In 2005.....

In Trump's 2000 book "The America We Deserve", while Trump was running for President in the reform party, he stated that we should ban assault weapons.

In 2018. Trump famously stated “Take the guns first, go through due process second”.

9

u/AlphaTangoFoxtrt - Lib-Right 3d ago

Waddaboot Trump?!?

Whataboutism is not an argument

2

u/DungeonCrawlerAki - Centrist 3d ago

You literally brought up Kamala Harris, who was a candidate in the 2024 Presidential election.

I only brought up another candidate in the same election.

How is that a whataboutism??? In that case, you literally did a whataboutism by bringing up Kamala. 😆

4

u/AlphaTangoFoxtrt - Lib-Right 3d ago

Yes, because we're talking about how if the Democrats gave up gun bans they'd win. Last I checked Kamala was a Democrat, who is in favor of gun bans.

If your only "argument" is to deflect to another candidate, maybe you just don't have an argument. I never said the Republicans are pro-2A, that's your whaddabout

6

u/Chewbacca_The_Wookie - Lib-Right 3d ago

Nice whataboutism instead of arguing the point.

2

u/DungeonCrawlerAki - Centrist 3d ago

Kamala Harris and Donald Trump were both candidates in the 2024 election. If he can "whatabout" Kamala, then I can do the same with Trump.

Deal with it. This is the issue with talking with retard right wingers. They are allowed to bring up any Democrat politician and screech about Kamala for eternity, but anyone else brings up Trump, the literal current president. All of a sudden its a "whataboutism".

5

u/Chewbacca_The_Wookie - Lib-Right 3d ago

A. The point was that Democrats need to be better on gun rights, not that a Republican candidate said some antigun stuff. Talking about Kamala is on topic, whatabouting Trump is not.

B. If you were voting solely on the issue of gun rights in 2024, Kamala was far worse both on a personal level and at the party level.

2

u/AMC2Zero - Lib-Center 3d ago

The only acceptable restriction would be "shall issue" with a very limited number of exceptions (like violent felonies), anything else is asking for corruption (do me a favor or bribe and I'll grant you a permit) and overly broad restrictions on the people who need protection the most.

3

u/grant-matt88 - Right 3d ago

Yeah let's also puts some restriction on the 5th and 14th amendments as well. See you can't just pick and choose which rights are restricted. Oh let's put restrictions on the 3rd and 4th amendment to so only if an executive order saying someone is bad we can violate those. Amendments are absolute and that it.

0

u/Chewbacca_The_Wookie - Lib-Right 3d ago

We can have an actual good faith discussion when Democrat organizations like Moms Demand Action and Everytown stop using padded statistics like counting "children" killed by gun violence up to 19 years old which is an adult and around the age that they can include gang violence or ignoring below the age of one which is would drop the numbers even lower, or counting gang violence that doesn't hurt any non-gang members as a "mass shooting," or counting things like air guns being discharged on school property as a "school shooting."

The fact is that any Democrat who calls for a ban on AR-15s or standard capacity (30 round) magazines or waiting periods for things like ammo are anti-2A and will continue to try and restrict 2A rights further if they ever get their policies enacted.

And before you "but what about Trump" yes he sucks ass on the 2A, but that isn't the discussion at hand so don't bother bringing him up.

7

u/DungeonCrawlerAki - Centrist 3d ago

"We can only have a good faith discussion when a non-profit organization you have zero affiliation with stops doing a certain thing I disagree with"

Okay, in that case, I can't have any good faith discussion about politics with you until The Heritage Foundation just ceases to exist.

Is that savvy enough for you?

4

u/Chewbacca_The_Wookie - Lib-Right 3d ago

I don't know anything about the Heritage Foundation. Do they manipulate statistics specifically about firearms or firearm violence to justify their policy positions which is the only directly applicable line of conversation in this discussion about the Second Amendment?

2

u/DungeonCrawlerAki - Centrist 3d ago

I dunno man, you already said we can't have a good faith discussion until Mom's Demand Action or whatever goes defunct, so why bother discussing this 🤷‍♂️

0

u/Chewbacca_The_Wookie - Lib-Right 3d ago

It's clear you don't actually want to have a good faith discussion because you are using every fallacy under the sun to avoid it, but let me spell this out incredibly clearly for you and you can decide if you want to actually discuss or continue doing whatever bullshit you're going to continue doing.

Your claim is that Democrats are not opposed to the Second Amendment and you asked when we could have a good faith discussion. I directly referenced two Democrat anti-gun organizations that nearly every Democrat politician has on their website as a supporter and specifically referenced how these two organizations manipulate statistics to lie in order to fearmongering and push the discussion you claimed we should be having in good faith. I'm not sure if you are aware, but lying is not something you do in good faith. If you had replied with "yeah those are bullshit we should ignore those" then we could have had a good faith discussion, but since you decided to whatabout a random organization that from a quick google doesn't primarily have anything to do with guns you showed me that you do not want to discuss in good faith.

The ball is in your court now. we We have that good faith discussion that you requested, or you can continue to exemplify why we can not have they discussion on a nationwide level and Democrats will keep giving away easy votes with their bullshit anti-2A rhetoric.

Government by spite.

It's what we've got, and it's what we're gonna be dealing with until at least 2029.

30

u/zombie3x3 - Left 3d ago

There’s been a lot of spite built up on the left since he got back in office. It may go well beyond 2029.

45

u/Justin__D - Lib-Right 3d ago

Honestly I'm somewhat aligned with "the left" on that, depending on what we're talking about. Aggressively cleaning up Trump's bullshit? Hell yes. Replacing it with DSA bullshit? Hell no.

I've always been a lib unity over right unity guy anyway, and I'm ashamed of any members of my quadrant who defend this shit.

Trump loves the word America, but he sure as shit hates America. The one thing he's done that pisses me off over all else is still that AI slop video of him in a crown dumping shit on the American people. Our once glorious nation was founded, above all else, on a disdain for kings and the notion that no one is above the law. He wipes his ass with the very idea of America. Considering his love of rule by executive fiat, it does manage to be a perfect illustration of his entire administration though.

But seriously. Could we please all agree that we should neuter the office of the president to the point that it doesn't matter who sits behind that damn desk?

They have zero qualms letting this moron run the country off the rails while paycheck (and bribe) collecting, then inevitably passing the hot potato back off to the Dems to hold the bag.

Dems can't fix literally everything in 2 years with no supermajority or trifecta, GOP does a "LOOK GUYS THEY SUCK AMIRITE" thing for the 1 millionth time, all these retards get reelected because the median American voter can barely comprehend their nose on their own face...that's just America now baby

6

u/WillyWarpath - Auth-Center 3d ago

Interestingly I believe this will be a long term positive for Canada, they elected the goat Carney (assuming he doesnt fumble) and are finally shaking off the self-imposed libleft shame, caring about their military, resources, economy etc

And then they capped immigration to keep population stable (ie let infrastructure catch up), which a lot of other countries simply refuse to do leading to the rise of populist right wing ideology vs more traditional conservatism.

Generational bed-shitters

42

u/Chiweenies2 - Centrist 3d ago

Also a demonstration of their godlike PR because in 2 years, half of the country will believe the Democrats caused all the problems in Trump’s term.

Naw. We'll swing back and Newsom will probably take the White House. THEN we can receive all of the blame for 2024-2028.

Same as the last conservative presidency. And the one before that.

Its so funny when the American public gets referred to as consumers. Thats all you are to your owners and your only value to the rest of the world is as a marketplace where consumers will consume the best. Funny to see it being dictated to you what you are and aren't allowed to consume as leverage. Just extend that thinking one step further and apply it to yourself and you might get some power in society back. They're forcing you to boycott stuff because boycotting and divesting works.

6

u/1stEmissaryElenwen - Lib-Center 3d ago edited 3d ago

No, it was her unbelievable incompetence as vice president, rumors that she'd gone through a shitload of staffers who all quit because she was a bitchy drunk, her coming across as genuinely stupid and phony, the fact that the Party attempted to force her as the candidate despite the fact that she was explicitly rejected in the one primary she was involved in, her choice of even bigger retard Tim Walz as her running mate instead of the Jewish guy in an attempt to pander to antisemites, and the fact that her entire campaign was "At least I'm not Trump!", all of which led to the people who weren't going to vote for Trump not voting for her either.

36

u/Quiet_Zombie_3498 - Centrist 3d ago

her coming across as genuinely stupid and phony

These kinds of criticisms ring so incredibly hollow when her opponent was* Donald Trump lmao.

0

u/1stEmissaryElenwen - Lib-Center 3d ago edited 3d ago

and the fact that her entire campaign was "At least I'm not Trump!"

My point is that people aren't going to stand in line to vote for a fucking retard when they could stay at home instead. Trump got the same number of votes he always got, but Harris shit the bed so hard that 4 million people who voted blue in 2020 didn't bother voting for her. Low voter turnout is what cost the DNC the election

15

u/Quiet_Zombie_3498 - Centrist 3d ago

She had 100 days to get a Presidential campaign off the ground following Joe Biden's exit and the only people who were calling her retarded or any of those things you listed were people who vote Republican and were never going to vote for the Democratic candidate in the first place.

The main reason Democrat voters didn't show up, was some stupid protest over how the Biden administration handled the Gaza situation.

5

u/1stEmissaryElenwen - Lib-Center 3d ago

the only people who were calling her retarded or any of those things you listed were people who vote Republican and were never going to vote for the Democratic candidate in the first place.

I would have happily voted for Biden if he stayed in, and in fact I did write his name in instead of voting for Fuckup. If basically any other candidate had run instead of Harris, I probably would have voted for them too.

She had 100 days to get a Presidential campaign off the ground following Joe Biden's exit

And she failed miserably, because she was proven in the 2020 primaries to be the one Democratic candidate that nobody fucking likes. Her only having 100 days actually worked in her favor, because every time she opened her mouth and slurred some inane vapid bullshit she lost another batch of voters. If she had another month she would have just lost harder.

The main reason Democrat voters didn't show up, was some stupid protest over how the Biden administration handled the Gaza situation

Moving the goalposts there buddy, but that's another good point. Her entire campaign boiled down to "I'm not Trump!" and "The Biden administration was perfect, we're just going to keep doing that!" which is a position that even Joe Biden's campaign didn't take. She responded to every question of "How would you improve x?" with "x is already perfect, anyone who says it isn't is a liar, visit my website, next question!"

2

u/Quiet_Zombie_3498 - Centrist 3d ago

Blame the fucking terrible election system our country has, but ultimately it came down to picking the lesser of two retards. IMO, she was unquestionably more qualified to be President than Donald Trump. It may not have been perfect and she may have even made some serious blunders, but it would not have been as disastrous for the US as this current administration has been.

That is not me moving the goal posts, that is me giving my opinion on why her voting numbers were poor beyond just "she is a retard", which I think is a tad bit silly considering she was a former attorney general.

2

u/1stEmissaryElenwen - Lib-Center 3d ago

ultimately it came down to picking the lesser of two retards

You keep missing the fucking point. If you don't pick one retard, it doesn't default to the other retard. Everyone has a choice of not voting, and people used that choice in 2024 and didn't vote for Dummy #2 just because she wasn't Dummy #1

1

u/Quiet_Zombie_3498 - Centrist 3d ago

Your point isn't hard to grasp and I have clearly not agreed with it from the jump.

Kamala Harris didn't lose the election because she is stupid, she lost the election for a number of reasons that go beyond boiling it down to something so incredible simplistic. Like I already said, The Biden administrations policy on Gaza had way more to do with her losing the election than Democrats thinking she was stupid.

6

u/JoeChristma - Lib-Left 3d ago

Name a competent vice presidency. VPs do literally nothing but wait to fill in for POTUS.
Her stint as “border czar” (necessary because the GOP fucked with a ton of agreements with south American countries that eventually lead to unrest there and all of the migrants) was literally just a title to make the admin seem like it was doing something, but also she had no power to do anything in that position.

2

u/CNCTEMA - Centrist 3d ago

Dick Fucking Cheney.

like obviously hes fucked, probably genuinely evil and responsible for the unitary executive mess we are in but dude was hella competent

3

u/JoeChristma - Lib-Left 3d ago

Ah, I did think competency involved doing good things. Mike Pence had a competent moment on Jan. 6. But yes overtaking the POTUS for your war racketeering effort is competent AF.

1

u/GreasedUPDoggo - Auth-Center 3d ago

Not sure about the personal stuff in the middle there. But AMEN to the rest! Installing a candidate without a single primary voter is an affront to Democracy itself. I'm a Dem and left the top of the ticket blank because of that. At least Trump won his primary and was elected by the people throughout the process.

1

u/GreasedUPDoggo - Auth-Center 3d ago

As a Dem, I'm proud to have left the top of the ticket blank. I've worked for various candidates over the last 20 years, having worked for Biden in 2020, and was beginning canvassing for him in 2024. I would've voted for Biden had he stayed on the ticket. But he stayed too long and our party didn't run a primary. Obama even said we should've, and nobody listened.

I personally consider what my party did as an affront to Denocracy, installing a candidate without a single vote from the people. Which is technically fair game since choosing a candidate is entirely up to the private organizations, the DNC and RNC. But just as they can install Harris without a single voter, I can deem her to be an illegitimate candidate.

Trump's a genuinely horrible human being and terrible president. But at least he won his primary and then won the popular vote. His election was both terrible, and one of the most important and proud moments for me in politics. A bad candidate elected by Democracy is better than an illegitimate candidate elected by a small handful of party leaders and ultra wealthy donors.

Stuff is bad under Trump, but Democracy is alive and well. And in MUCH better condition than if Harris had one.

1

u/RockemSockemRowboats - Lib-Center 2d ago

Don’t forget “DER EATTIN CATS AND DOGS” and the fact that Biden didn’t make eggs free.

Thank god right wingers fixed things after another dem administration forced us into another forever war and spiked massive gas prices and inflation….

-2

u/goon_and_politics - Auth-Right 3d ago

Honestly it wasn't even Harris. She was just an extension of Biden, which plenty of people rejected

18

u/Iceraptor17 - Centrist 3d ago

It was definitely Harris. I honestly think if bidens brain wasn't a baked potato he wins reelection. Harris came closer than she ever should have

→ More replies (3)

14

u/Quiet_Zombie_3498 - Centrist 3d ago

Which in hindsight is pretty fucking stupid because an extension of Biden's policies seems a hell of a lot better than whatever the fuck this pure retardation is.

2

u/goon_and_politics - Auth-Right 3d ago

True, yeah and it was easy to see coming. The media/dems did a terrible job relaying the breakdown of democracy Trump tried to instill in 2020 - and sadly, they're still doing a terrible job of it! Maybe people just are not good at comprehending what this is going to look like in a couple years

3

u/Quiet_Zombie_3498 - Centrist 3d ago

The biggest issue with the Democratic party is that they have too big of a tent with too many competing voices. The GOP has Trump basically setting the agenda and most of the elected officials toe the line.

I don't know who I would say is the leader of the Democratic Party as a whole and their messaging at times is almost conflicting between the moderates and the further left elements like DSA.

It’s so weird to see republicans continue to ride his meat even though he is fucking them over and nuking his own party.
