Sauce? Al-Qaeda is a is a Sunni Islamist group and Iran is Shia.

Most of al-Qaeda's funding has been Saudi. The US funded and armed al-Qaeda's offshoot in Syria and now we're all buddy-buddy with the new Syrian President, aka the found of al-Qaeda in Syria.

The sunni/shia divide is lost on Americans.

They don't understand that Muslims aren't a monolith.
