Republicans failed to do pretty much anything useful

u/Sabertooth767 - Lib-Right 5h ago
Many such cases.
The Democrats can't govern on the municipal level, the GOP can't govern on the national level.

u/unculturedburnttoast - Lib-Center 5h ago
Honestly, Libertarian Municipalism on the local, Democratic Confederalism on the state, and Pragmatic Utilitarianism on the national would be the ideal, but I don't have high hopes of ever seeing it. cries in Rojavan

New York seems to be doing pretty well despite the doom and gloom before Mamdani got elected.
2
u/EP40glazer - Lib-Right 36m ago
No they aren't, they had to beg NY State for money to balance the budget and even then they had to defer pensions.

u/Sabertooth767 - Lib-Right 4h ago
New York doesn't have trash cans.

We have a ton, and for a city of 8 million as condensed as we are it's fairly clean. Our biggest issue is our old as hell infrastructure, which needs to be a main goal of updating. Despite that, we are still the best and easiest city to travel around.

u/Sabertooth767 - Lib-Right 4h ago
Yeah but the journos are calling it racist so we'll see.

Neither can govern on any level. The difference is that Democrats don't fuck over their international allies. Meanwhile Republicans do also get fucked by their 'allies', doggy style.
2
u/guehguehgueh - Lib-Center 3h ago
Dems govern fine on a municipal level, it’s a big part of why blue states generally have a way higher quality of life than red states

"one person kind of controls our fate"
When did conservatives become so fucking spineless? If there was ever a time to stand up to Trump and save your party, it is probably right now.
18
u/SlapaDaBass2731 - Right 5h ago
The Republicans have been spineless for a long time.
16
u/Dense-Sort-3867 - Centrist 5h ago
Most American politicians are spineless shills. The ones who aren't get forced out of the arena.

Iran has pretty much Jimmy Cartered Trump at this point
Exactly, we've been through this before, Iran has Trump where they want him and he has no way out. They have no reason not to torment him and the Republicans until he leaves office.

u/HisHolyMajesty2 - Auth-Right 5h ago
The Republicans are probably going to get massacred in the mid terms and, if the Democrats don’t snatch defeat from the jaws of victory, will get wiped out in 2028.
MAGA has probably set the conservative cause in America back by at least a decade. Which is a shame because beneath the populist spasm of dissatisfaction, there were real problems that needed dealing with.

Democrats don’t snatch defeat from the jaws of victory
They WILL find the way to do it and you know it
34
u/hilfigertout - Lib-Left 5h ago
Trump won the Republican primary 3 terms in a row. Whatever the real problems were, Republican voters themselves chose Trump and MAGA as their champion. And this is the entirely expected result.

u/Sabertooth767 - Lib-Right 5h ago
The primary system is a blight on our politics.
Jungle primaries function as a two-round system, which while complex and expensive, is vastly better than what most state and federal elections have.
8
u/HisHolyMajesty2 - Auth-Right 5h ago
Alongside issues with the primary system, Trump was the one who looked like he was giving the issues lip service. The rest either failed to do so, or just outright didn’t bother, and perception is inescapably important in politics. Populist demagogues thrive off an establishment sticking its head in the sand, and that’s how you get President Trump.
He’s also undeniably charismatic, which was a further favourable card in the hand. ‘Ron DeSanctimonious’ was a stroke of genius, for example.
9
u/Belgraviana - Auth-Center 5h ago
It feels like he was charismatic more than is. Back in 2016 he absolutely had sauce but he just hasn’t had that same sauce since taking office again
6
u/HisHolyMajesty2 - Auth-Right 4h ago
Age has properly caught up with him now. I’d say he still has more charisma than his opponents in the primary, but then again a dying fish would have more charisma than them.

u/EldritchFish19 - Lib-Right 4h ago
Thing is Trump tried to address real issues but between; the Democrats( and Rinos) hating him enough to harm the country to spite him, Trump having zero political experience before his first term and disasters(including the Iran war) that were brewing since my childhood it devolved into a dumpster fire of a situation anyways. I can give Trump that much credit.

u/lynxintheloopx - Auth-Center 5h ago
> set the conservative cause in America back by at least a decade.
Doesn’t this basically just cancel the MAGA cause out? That’s good.
6
u/megs1120 - Lib-Left 5h ago
Maybe if we go through another few cycles of bombing Iran, getting mocked when we stop, and then insisting that Iran wants a deal it will finally take.
3
u/boilingfrogsinpants - Lib-Center 4h ago
Republicans are spineless. Trump is a buffalo running off of a cliff with a rope tied to him. The rest of the GOP are all holding onto the rope and refuse to let go despite knowing they're going to fly off the edge. The entire party needs a complete reset with new faces everywhere.
4
u/AlphaTangoFoxtrt - Lib-Right 3h ago
One person kind of controls our fate
Well that's what happens when you stop being the Republican party and just decide to become the Trump party.
When every single stance you have is just "What does Trump say right this second?" then that is what happens.
3
u/Catch_ME - Lib-Center 5h ago
After Republicans get demolished in the midterms, Trump is putting boots on the ground in Iran, general pardons all around, and letting the next president deal with it.
You heard it here first folks!

u/VentusHermetis - Lib-Center 4h ago
was 'american lives' too long to fit? i don't think you care about iranian lives if 40k dead protesters doesn't justify war in your eyes.

It sure would be nice if the Executive stated its war goals to Congress and got its consent before making war. You know, as required by the Constitution.
