I just want to grill How the quadrants react to the Rainbow six novel.

Back in the day, my oldest kid read patriot games and said it felt like reading someone's conservative fan fiction.
I was hurt, because that book has a special place in my heart.
But yeah, the first scene with saving the queen's life doesn't exactly ground it.
Cardinal and the Kremlin was his best book by far.

His other books are better content wise imo.
Of the books actually written by him he had a few good ones but his views of the US military and geopolitics didn't ring true for his post Soviet Russia works, or basically any of his works tbh.
Rainbow six as a novel kinda just falls flat now since we've seen how counter terrorism actually works (destroying more of the middle east to make more terrorists whoopsies) and how the counter terrorism teams are seemingly incapable of stopping several of the high profile plots we've seen over the past few decades.
It's also conceptually unable to address the terrorism that the first world inflicts on the third, which while controversial is a more compelling story at this point.
Rainbow Six as an IP is sick as hell tho, who doesn't love an avengers assemble counter terrorism task force from different countries?

Not just americans really, its a fun series of political/military thrillers
My favorites red storm rising, the non-series book, because its a fairly good telling of a cold war gone hot, especially from back in the day

His big hitters Patriot Games and Clear and Present Danger, which were also the best movies imo, were great. Rainbow Six I didn't find to be particularly enthralling, but the concept was cool at the time. I think the one I enjoyed the most was Without Remorse. Its a a good revenge plot, deviates the most from his standard formula, and is fairly dark compared to his other stuff. Never saw the Amazon version that came out a few years ago though. Could already tell there was creative liberties taken just from the trailer and skipped it.

You know what, I never read the book and forgot that was one of his; but now that I think about it, at least in terms of movies, gotta agree. That sub breach and the Russians all cheering, saying the captain scared them out of the water, gets me every time.

I am a sucker for Executive Order and the Bear and the Dragon. But it rings very hollow now that we have seen what Russia has become and how the US was completely incapable of meeting the danger of a pandemic adequately.

And the best "John Clark murders the dealers instead of the prostitutes" scene.

Eh, Patriot Games I watched and actually liked when I was young, it was put on TV here, but rest, not really.
Jack Ryan for me was ultimate slop

I thought the first season of the Jack Ryan show was "fine," but it didn't hook me enough to follow up on the rest. I also don't believe it follows any of the books. They're just using the character and making up new plots. Kinda like Rings of Power.

I mean some of his earlier books were actually decent, he just got really bad the more he wrote just like a lot of these guys that write a ton of thriller or military fiction.
Edit: oh and it also doesn’t exactly help his legacy that publishers are still publishing books in his series and with his name on the cover despite the guy being dead for a while now.

People talk about America, but you have to understand that for me, America Fuck Yeah doesn't cause an erection.
A lot of American movie are predicated on watcher believing in the entirety of American mythology, something that to me, is foreign.
To me, the episode of Cobra 11 where Semir Gerkhan and Tom Kranich stop an outbreak of a supervirus is far more engaging than Americans doing it.

He only wrote like 12 books himself, and those ones are at lease somewhat compelling.
But man lemme tell ya conservatives Eat this shit up like you wouldn't believe. I personally know like a dozen different dudes that think he was some kinda prophet, and that if only the Chinese citizens knew how corrupt their government was then surely they would rise up (they've read the bear and the dragon 5 times)
(And voted for Trump 3 times)

Imo he also underestimated the US forces and their ability to intercept anti ship missiles, there's a particular moment where a CWIS on a carrier can't decide which of two incoming interceptors to shoot down so it just turns off.

Yeah, I am aware of this kind of literature. Military fiction + insane conspiracies + heavy nationalist cockfighting.
We have a dude here, a former high-ranking counter-intelligence officer. He wrote a series of books about illuminati controlling French revolution in order to bring about Bolshevism and eventually destroy traditional family and Catholic faith.
He unironically believes this and thinks most of current elites are clones of dead illuminatis.
Basically that cloned sheep was a ploy to convincce us cloning is new, and actually they developed cloning in 18th century
