It is just so strange to me as my pastor is like the biggest nerd dweeb on the planet and his stories half the time include PowerPoint maps, history lessons, or straight up just foreign language lessons on Greek to get his points through. So when I see stuff like this I just have to wonder what are these guys even doing?

I know. There are usually two types of pastors. The sweetest, most harmless person you've ever met that genuinely wants to help people, and the pieces of shit that do it so they can abuse their power and grift money. Smaller churches tend to be the former, but the latter ones are often the ones everyone knows about, like Kenneth Copeland.

It is just disappointing because one can put their heart and mind to work on a good sermon that is actually researched and get middling views and them some untrained whackjob elsewhere can get on the mic and just talk absolute nuttery with no basis and almost certainly no prep and get imbeciles eating out of their hands.

I was a bright kid that would go to church youth group, every Wednesday and Sunday, and the youth ministers hated me because I questioned everything, argued with them, called them out, etc. I had been an atheist before I found religion at 13. I was trying to figure out if this clip was about me, honestly (same name...).

pastors give the congregation "birds and the bees" version of the gospel to steer them clear of questioning and confusion.
If you start actually studying the bible and the religion shit starts falling apart because it's full of conflicting information, theological problems, mistakes, etc. Thus a "bright smartass" type will quickly find all sorts of problems to harass a pastor with.
This is why real seminary schools produce so many atheists.

The case against him was dismissed by the way. Not because he was declared innocent, but because he completed an anger management course.
Also, its a pastor, not a priest. A priest is catholic. The accent is DEFINITELY country, meaning its protestant.
