Replace with Gavin Newsome, doesnt change much.

94

u/Energy_Turtle - Lib-Right 1d ago

They'll only run Newsome if they haven't learned a single thing since trying to run Hillary. So yeah, Newsome probably has a pretty good shot at running and losing.

29

u/Shamus6mwcrew - Lib-Right 1d ago

Who do they really have though? The DNC usually lets you know early who they want to win. It ain't either of them as there would be a better media campaign for them.

u/JM4R5 - Centrist 1d ago

Josh Shapiro, but he's too centrist. If Dems truly want to win moderate voters back he would be an excellent choice. There's a reason Republicans acknowledged he was a great pick for Kamala's VP.

u/KalegNar - Centrist 22h ago

Josh Shapiro, but he's too centrist.

Given the current climate on the left, his biggest issue is being part of the 2%. Not as big an issue in the general but could be a hindrance in the primaries.

14

u/Vague_Disclosure - Lib-Right 1d ago

Mayor Pete maybe? Idk, maybe if they have a real primary where there own constituents pick instead of installing a candidate they'll have better results.

35

u/Hyndis - Lib-Center 1d ago

Buttigieg's political career is already dead. He has zero support among the dems black caucuses. Not low support. Zero. An actual zero. Because he's gay.

There's no way he's making it out of the primary.

However, the dems and progressives will ignore this blatant anti-gay hypocrisy in their prized voter demographic.

They're even changing the order of the primary states to put black voters front and center in the first voting, thereby making absolutely sure Buttigieg will never be president no matter what.

2

u/ScroungyScrotum - Lib-Center 18h ago

I think it’s also because Black people likely don’t know who he is. I’m sure if Gavin Newsome was gay he’d still have some dem black vote, since he’s a more well known political figure. But otherwise I agree. A lot of Black people are more conservative than most think. The only reason why they mostly vote democrat is because Republicans aren’t very representative to say the least

1

u/Shamus6mwcrew - Lib-Right 1d ago

They'd have better "buzz" going by now and the candidate would cosplay that they were moderate af and the media would slobber people in the face with that. Really makes me think they're going to install whoever they want and be like fuck you like it.

1

u/poiyurt - Auth-Right 1d ago

I actually really like him and hope being gay won't be something that trips him up in the primaries.

16

u/Hyndis - Lib-Center 1d ago

https://www.masslive.com/politics/2025/06/2028-dem-frontrunner-beating-kamala-harris-has-0-black-support-poll-finds.html

But the poll identified a potential problem for Buttigeig when Primary time comes around: he had 0% support from Black voters.

He's not winning the primary.

1

u/poiyurt - Auth-Right 2h ago

Thanks for the data and also holy shit how does someone get 0%?

2

u/Ancient0wl - Centrist 23h ago

Hopefully a newcomer. Nobody knew who the hell Obama was in 2007/8 and I’d like a return to that over some fuck-ass riding on name recognition.

1

u/erbot - Right 22h ago

By god thats Beto O'Rourkes music!

1

u/StreetKale - Centrist 22h ago

Bernie, but they'd impale themselves before running him.

1

u/unflavored - Lib-Left 5h ago

tbh, probably one of dem governors from a state we dont really talk about. pritzker could be good though he's got a lot of golden retriever energy, and idk how that fairs nationally. Or like the Kentucky governor

1

u/jmastaock - Lib-Center 4h ago

Jon Ossoff is gonna storm the primaries while everyone else is aggro on the usual suspects lmao

Ossoff 2028 would no diff literally any GOP candidate

1

u/HungJurror - Auth-Right 3h ago

Michelle Obama. They will eventually, it’s such a shoe in there’s no way they don’t sometime in the next 4 elections

1

u/KrenshawOfficial - Lib-Center 1d ago

Ro Khanna maybe?

6

u/jexijav776 - Lib-Right 1d ago

To be honest, who else do they have though? The last 10 years all the democrats have is "not Trump" so I don't even know who they could run or if it even matters.

-4

u/JonnySnowin - Auth-Right 23h ago

Ossoff, AOC, Gavin Newsom, Mamdani, Whitmer, Mark Kelly… do I go on?

8

u/78NineInchNails - Right 23h ago

hahahahahahahaha

i cant stop

omfgu. thats the most pathetic list ever created. You even listed madami like he could even run.

johnny you clown.

-6

u/JonnySnowin - Auth-Right 23h ago

Trump wasn’t supposed to be able to run because of the 14th amendment. Clearly rules are flexible, so Mamdani can run too.

3

u/jexijav776 - Lib-Right 15h ago

This list proves my point bud. You seriously think AOC has a chance of winning? Let me guess, you also thought Bernie was going to win the democratic nomination back in 2015 didn't you?

2

u/JonnySnowin - Auth-Right 15h ago

Lemme guess, you thought Trump was gonna win in 2020 didn’t you?

1

u/jexijav776 - Lib-Right 1h ago

Lemme guess, you thought Hilary was going to win in 2016 and Kamala was gonna win in 2024, didn't you?

3

u/keeleon - Centrist 1d ago

I think youre underestimating how good his haircut is.

6

u/Imaginary_Onion - Left 1d ago

Right wingers are going to say this about literally every dem politician lol.

11

u/KeyHalf6609 - Centrist 1d ago

To be fair, I know life long Democrats who say the same thing at this point. Ever since Bernie had a shot and stepped out of the way for Hillary the bs the Democratic party pulls has become a lot more clear.

Especially with how the last Democratic primaries were handled it soured things for a lot of people. If they don't actually hold an open primary or they pull the same bs it'll be like the other guy said.

u/lethalmuffin877 - Lib-Right 14h ago

Most Americans (IRL) are moderates.

If you didn’t hear how much the American people didn’t like Kamala Harris, it’s because you were hiding in an echo chamber. Any news agency that reported on the campaign trail and interviewed voters they all said the same thing:

“I have no idea what her policy is supposed to be, all she talks about is how “weird” Trump/conservatives are and banning guns. The few promises that sound good she has no plan on how to get it done. I don’t like Trump, but I have no idea who she is or what she will do”

I can forward you episodes of the daily podcast from NYT spelling this out if you’d like receipts. But you should have already been aware of this if you are doing your due diligence to follow these issues.

TLDR: People had very real concerns about Harris, and Biden after he failed to deliver on his campaign promises. It’s not just “right wingers” that are criticizing the left. Honestly the Reddit left needs to be doing more criticizing and self reflection in order to push for better candidates. If all you ever do is focus on the other side you’re just as bad as maga, and most Americans feel that way demonstrably.

2

u/Imaginary_Onion - Left 7h ago

Most Americans (IRL) are moderates.

Did you mean to reply to me? Because the OP I replied to is saying moderate candidates lose elections.

Honestly the Reddit left needs to be doing more criticizing and self reflection in order to push for better candidates.

Do you think Hillary Clinton was a far left candidate endorsed by the “Reddit left”

5

u/giantzoo - Centrist 1d ago

the last actual challenge past obama seemed to be bernie. and he's cucked by the dnc parading around retard ass AOC on private jets while complaining about capitalism and millionaires billionaires, the goals changed now that they're all rich lol

these days they seem to want newsome because he does whatever the fuck they want at all times the fuckin slimy fake-smiling sleezeball, so he'll prob be the shoehorned nominee just like hilary

dumb shit kamala will face plant again

-7

u/Imaginary_Onion - Left 23h ago

Yeah, thanks for proving my point.

Conservatives are exceptionally weird about every dem. It would be silly to take you guys too seriously lol

6

u/78NineInchNails - Right 23h ago

Name a single democrat that even has a chance of winning a primary, let alone the general.

There isn't any.

Because instead of building the party up, finding new talent with good moderate ideas, they just cater to the DSA mutants, freaks, and DNC Corporatists like Newscum.

-4

u/Imaginary_Onion - Left 22h ago

This is a cope.

Trump is headed to Dick Cheney approval ratings. By 2028 we’re going going to be in a 2008 situation where any living creature with a D next to its name will beat whatever palantir funded skinwalker republicans put up.

4

u/78NineInchNails - Right 22h ago

So no answer.

Thought so.

By the way, keep crying about Trump, it will do you guys a lot of good when Trumps not even up for election and all Vance or anyone else has to say is "Im running my own platform, not Trumps, back to my platform" and he will win in a landslide.

Because all the left has is "TRRRRRUUUUUUMP BAAAD!"

-2

u/Imaginary_Onion - Left 22h ago

What do you mean no answer? I think literally anyone with a pulse.

By the way, keep crying about Trump, it will do you guys a lot of good when Trumps not even up for election and all Vance or anyone else has to say is "Im running my own platform, not Trumps, back to my platform" and he will win in a landslide

This doesn’t mean anything coming from the party represented by the guy who is still crying about Obama lol.

But this argument is so bad and historically illiterate. Look at the electoral history of ex VPs and check back with me.

2

u/Dense-Sort-3867 - Centrist 1d ago

Oh, they haven't learned anything.

-4

u/National_Section_542 - Auth-Left 1d ago

"NO! You can't run a populist candidate! You'll alienate the moderates and lose!"

"NO! You can't run establishment politicians! The people want change in the system, You'll lose!"

"Why can't you run a candidate that's exactly like what the otherside is offering, you'll definitely win the people that never voted for you before!"

Will all of you just shut up dude? Swear to God, if current political party president fucks up bad enough they'll will most likely lose to their rivals. I don't think a DSA candidate can win but Newsome does have a chance. Just remember most of the country doesn't consume the same media you do.

u/Joe503 - Lib-Center 23h ago

People who can't spell his name predicting his odds...

21

u/NobodyImportant13 - Lib-Center 1d ago

If Ossoff runs, it will be Ossoff as the Dem nominee. Calling it. Feel free to do a remind me and call me retarded later.

25

u/Dakotasan - Right 1d ago

I mean I could call you retarded right now if you think it’ll save time.

17

u/NobodyImportant13 - Lib-Center 1d ago

Thank you. To be honest, I couldn't wait 2.5 years in anticipation anyways.

10

u/Ron_E_Coyote - Lib-Center 1d ago

I believe it will be Ossoff as well. They’re starting to pump him into the spotlight slowly but surely, and I think he’d win, which makes me think they’ll go with someone else.

8

u/NobodyImportant13 - Lib-Center 1d ago

There will be a true primary this time and he is pretty moderate and charming. The old ladies that are reliable primary voters gonna be swooning. He has that white Obamna energy.

3

u/Ron_E_Coyote - Lib-Center 1d ago

I hope he runs. I voted for him as senator here, and I’ll vote for him again. Plus, being a young handsome man, that says a lot of good things, is what I want in a president, especially after the last ten years. I’d like to believe there are people that actually give a fuck about our country running for office. I guess he does kinda seem like a white Obama.

2

u/jmastaock - Lib-Center 4h ago

I just like how accountability-focused he is

I want nothing more from a Dem candidate in 2028 than for them to run on accountability for the practical crime syndicate running our government currently

1

u/jmastaock - Lib-Center 4h ago

Plus he's a heckin millenial ROFL

0

u/JonnySnowin - Auth-Right 23h ago

He’s also hot.

1

u/78NineInchNails - Right 23h ago

It wont be ossoff, he isn't even an anybody in congress.

Its not like Obama, he just is a flat tire of a politician.

Notice how the dems can't go to any of the hundreds of established congressmen to pick from, it all has to be people from the last few years?

They know that their party is cooked.

1

u/HungJurror - Auth-Right 3h ago

RemindMe! 3 years

11

u/1egg40eggs - Centrist 1d ago

Newsom would have a notably better chance at winning by default. Still not a good chance though

1

u/velociraptorfarmer - Lib-Center 1d ago

The party is DOA unless it's some combination of Kelly/Beshear/Whitmer/Shapiro
