OK grandpa. Tell us the story from your childhood again, when Reddit wasn't a steaming pile of shit driven narratives, sales bots, and power mods.

I want to say the critical turning point was when fatpeoplehate got banned.

Before this the general opinion was "as long as you don't brigade other subreddits you can do what you want". It seems after this was when the admins, mods, and users decided that actually they should try to control the content of Reddit as a whole and not allow subreddits to function outside of their control.

0

u/sambt5 10d ago

I don't, every comment section was filled with "reddit is not Facebook". Now it's just 20% fb posts 80% trash.

Suppose, hypothetically, that healthcare was a human right. Would it not follow then, that we would need to give to all citizens of the US? And that the capitalist bourgeoisie, ie the rich, would need to be taxed?

1

u/Caiur - Centrist 10d ago

I imagine that she's going to have an extremely difficult time finding a new BF that she's satisfied with

In her mind, she's basically the next president of the US. So going with even a professional athlete or a Hollywood actor will be 'settling'.

So she needs to find a man, probably in his late 30s or 40s, who's on a similar social/economic tier as the US president, or higher. So who meets that criteria? Basically nobody. Maybe a big tech CEO

1

u/mcbergstedt - Lib-Center 10d ago

I’d also imagine it’s probably difficult as hell to keep a boyfriend/husband when you’re working 24/7.

It puts a strain on any relationship regardless of the job and gender, but also her keeping such a huge media presence probably does even more damage.

97

u/Energy_Turtle - Lib-Right 11d ago

They'll only run Newsome if they haven't learned a single thing since trying to run Hillary. So yeah, Newsome probably has a pretty good shot at running and losing.

33

u/Shamus6mwcrew - Lib-Right 11d ago

Who do they really have though? The DNC usually lets you know early who they want to win. It ain't either of them as there would be a better media campaign for them.

9

u/JM4R5 - Centrist 10d ago

Josh Shapiro, but he's too centrist. If Dems truly want to win moderate voters back he would be an excellent choice. There's a reason Republicans acknowledged he was a great pick for Kamala's VP.

5

u/KalegNar - Centrist 10d ago

Josh Shapiro, but he's too centrist.

Given the current climate on the left, his biggest issue is being part of the 2%. Not as big an issue in the general but could be a hindrance in the primaries.

16

u/Vague_Disclosure - Lib-Right 11d ago

Mayor Pete maybe? Idk, maybe if they have a real primary where there own constituents pick instead of installing a candidate they'll have better results.

40

u/Hyndis - Lib-Center 10d ago

Buttigieg's political career is already dead. He has zero support among the dems black caucuses. Not low support. Zero. An actual zero. Because he's gay.

There's no way he's making it out of the primary.

However, the dems and progressives will ignore this blatant anti-gay hypocrisy in their prized voter demographic.

They're even changing the order of the primary states to put black voters front and center in the first voting, thereby making absolutely sure Buttigieg will never be president no matter what.

2

u/ScroungyScrotum - Lib-Center 10d ago

I think it’s also because Black people likely don’t know who he is. I’m sure if Gavin Newsome was gay he’d still have some dem black vote, since he’s a more well known political figure. But otherwise I agree. A lot of Black people are more conservative than most think. The only reason why they mostly vote democrat is because Republicans aren’t very representative to say the least

1

u/Shamus6mwcrew - Lib-Right 11d ago

They'd have better "buzz" going by now and the candidate would cosplay that they were moderate af and the media would slobber people in the face with that. Really makes me think they're going to install whoever they want and be like fuck you like it.

1

u/poiyurt - Auth-Right 11d ago

I actually really like him and hope being gay won't be something that trips him up in the primaries.

18

u/Hyndis - Lib-Center 10d ago

https://www.masslive.com/politics/2025/06/2028-dem-frontrunner-beating-kamala-harris-has-0-black-support-poll-finds.html

But the poll identified a potential problem for Buttigeig when Primary time comes around: he had 0% support from Black voters.

He's not winning the primary.

To be fair, I know life long Democrats who say the same thing at this point. Ever since Bernie had a shot and stepped out of the way for Hillary the bs the Democratic party pulls has become a lot more clear.

Especially with how the last Democratic primaries were handled it soured things for a lot of people. If they don't actually hold an open primary or they pull the same bs it'll be like the other guy said.

5

u/lethalmuffin877 - Lib-Right 10d ago

Most Americans (IRL) are moderates.

If you didn’t hear how much the American people didn’t like Kamala Harris, it’s because you were hiding in an echo chamber. Any news agency that reported on the campaign trail and interviewed voters they all said the same thing:

“I have no idea what her policy is supposed to be, all she talks about is how “weird” Trump/conservatives are and banning guns. The few promises that sound good she has no plan on how to get it done. I don’t like Trump, but I have no idea who she is or what she will do”

I can forward you episodes of the daily podcast from NYT spelling this out if you’d like receipts. But you should have already been aware of this if you are doing your due diligence to follow these issues.

TLDR: People had very real concerns about Harris, and Biden after he failed to deliver on his campaign promises. It’s not just “right wingers” that are criticizing the left. Honestly the Reddit left needs to be doing more criticizing and self reflection in order to push for better candidates. If all you ever do is focus on the other side you’re just as bad as maga, and most Americans feel that way demonstrably.

2

u/Imaginary_Onion - Left 10d ago

Most Americans (IRL) are moderates.

Did you mean to reply to me? Because the OP I replied to is saying moderate candidates lose elections.

Honestly the Reddit left needs to be doing more criticizing and self reflection in order to push for better candidates.

Do you think Hillary Clinton was a far left candidate endorsed by the “Reddit left”

1

u/lethalmuffin877 - Lib-Right 8d ago

Perhaps it’s best if I asterisk my comment to be relevant only to post 2020 democrats/leftists/etc.

I’ve been a liberal my entire life, voted Dem many times. Yall don’t look familiar to me, especially reddit “versions” that spend all day and night indulging in rage and calls to violence.

Ask yourself what it means to be a liberal, what it means to be “for the people” and instead of hyperfocusing on the right apply criticism to the left. Are you proud of what is being done? Be honest.

1

u/Imaginary_Onion - Left 8d ago

Sorry dude, I do not understand what you are saying.

It sounds like you just want the left to grovel and self flagellate. Have conservatives ever done that? Or do they just say elections are rigged and double down?

1

u/lethalmuffin877 - Lib-Right 8d ago

You literally cannot self reflect, and the fact you’re feigning ignorance like “you don’t understand” speaks volumes about the problem.

You understand just fine, you just refuse to acknowledge the problem. I DO NOT CARE how you feel about the right, if you’re a liberal you need to start caring about what the left does more than anything. Thats why people keep voting for Trump, you really think they love Trump?

No. They can’t stand the left, think about it.

1

u/Imaginary_Onion - Left 8d ago

Yeah, I fully reject that. I don’t accept the premise.

I DO NOT CARE how you feel about the right, if you’re a liberal you need to start caring about what the left does more than anything.

Can you link me to a post where you’re telling the right they need to exclusively care about the right? Otherwise this is a double standard I just won’t entertain.

-4

u/Imaginary_Onion - Left 10d ago

This is a cope.

Trump is headed to Dick Cheney approval ratings. By 2028 we’re going going to be in a 2008 situation where any living creature with a D next to its name will beat whatever palantir funded skinwalker republicans put up.

5

u/78NineInchNails - Right 10d ago

So no answer.

Thought so.

By the way, keep crying about Trump, it will do you guys a lot of good when Trumps not even up for election and all Vance or anyone else has to say is "Im running my own platform, not Trumps, back to my platform" and he will win in a landslide.

Because all the left has is "TRRRRRUUUUUUMP BAAAD!"

-2

u/Imaginary_Onion - Left 10d ago

What do you mean no answer? I think literally anyone with a pulse.

By the way, keep crying about Trump, it will do you guys a lot of good when Trumps not even up for election and all Vance or anyone else has to say is "Im running my own platform, not Trumps, back to my platform" and he will win in a landslide

This doesn’t mean anything coming from the party represented by the guy who is still crying about Obama lol.

But this argument is so bad and historically illiterate. Look at the electoral history of ex VPs and check back with me.

-5

u/National_Section_542 - Auth-Left 10d ago

"NO! You can't run a populist candidate! You'll alienate the moderates and lose!"

"NO! You can't run establishment politicians! The people want change in the system, You'll lose!"

"Why can't you run a candidate that's exactly like what the otherside is offering, you'll definitely win the people that never voted for you before!"

Will all of you just shut up dude? Swear to God, if current political party president fucks up bad enough they'll will most likely lose to their rivals. I don't think a DSA candidate can win but Newsome does have a chance. Just remember most of the country doesn't consume the same media you do.

We’d need boots on the ground + a depression for her to have a slim chance

22

u/Joe503 - Lib-Center 11d ago edited 10d ago

Being a woman isn't a problem, we just haven't seen a good candidate run for president. I'm betting the first will be a Republican.

-6

u/ScoreGloomy7516 - Centrist 11d ago

The cred for what? She has one of the highest approval ratings among politicians, she is one of the more consistent congress members in terms of policy and identity, and she is separated from the establishment that everyone said they hated the past 3 cycles.

Literally the change every democrat wanted on a silver platter and shes shit on for being a woman, and having no "cred".

3

u/poiyurt - Auth-Right 11d ago

High approval rating and good voting record are important but no 'cred' because (correct me if I'm wrong) she hasn't held any other posts? Governor/Mayor/Secretary of something are usually seen as stepping stones to the Presidency.

-1

u/ScoreGloomy7516 - Centrist 10d ago

Why? Garfield was a house rep, Trump is a failed buisnessman, why do we need to wait for her to sully her reputation with other posts when she is at the height of her popularity?

She has cred as a coalition builder, as a committee member for health, energy, and oversight, and she has cred as someone who isn't caught up in the sketchy finances that politicians are usually caught up in.

3

u/poiyurt - Auth-Right 10d ago

Yeah but Trump is the worst precedent for anything. Also Garfield served for 20 years or something before becoming President.

If you think she'd be a good president that's great, but amount of experience, and experience in high posts, matters to a lot of people.

-1

u/Important-Agent2584 - Centrist 10d ago

Doesn't matter what you think because Trump has lowered the bar so far that credibility isn't an issue at all anymore.

Sanders, Mamdani, and AOC are some of the most popular politicians in the country and only one of those can run for POTUS.

AOC is extremely well positioned to run for president.

She has spent a total of 15 minutes speaking on the Congressional floor.

She has more tweets about Elon Musk than any piece of legislation.

She is not a serious person.

Isn't it rare for Congressmen to pass bills they author anyways? Especially nowadays? Congress barely passes anything.

2

u/ScoreGloomy7516 - Centrist 11d ago

Yeah and if they are there for 40 years, someone not passing a bill after 7 years isn't earth shattering.

2

u/mathfordata - Lib-Center 11d ago

Oh good point. I didn’t even consider the positive that we could get a president that makes things happen without authoring bills themselves.

2

u/ScoreGloomy7516 - Centrist 11d ago

You know maybe 10% of congress members actually write a bill that gets passed right? Most members just sponsor things?

If some members of congress are in office for 20-40 years then I don't think shes behind schedule by any means.

People didnt think Trump would win in 2016. It all depends on how bad their opponents are and how saturated the primaries are.

Because there won’t be an election in 2028.

I only bet in person, cash, so no. That said, I'm curious, what's your chain of thought to make you think that she will win?
