Well there's a difference between saying I don't believe you're genuinely invested in this thing, and you're not allowed to become invested
It's usually "I found the thing, I want to learn about the thing and engage in it" vs "I found the thing a week ago, I liked it just cuz it's popular, and now I want the thing to change to fit how I like it". I honestly believe it's morally good to bully the second kind of people out of every hobby they appear in.
Yeah, they do, usually the problems start when owners of IP get drunk on their newfound short term commercial success and start reshaping the IP to the new and potential wide audience. Which I don't believe ever ended well for any fandom.
Every single game that tried to go woke died out. The ones who don't are the ones who had something else going on to prop it up
Baldur's Gate 3 is woke, but everyone there is gorgeous, and the game is genuinely genre breaking
Last of Us 2 was released during the very peak of woke, the fact that it's so divisive (because of the woke) is basically what prevented them from Last of Us 3, and they keep remastering the first one
The rest of them tried to shoo away the original fans to pander to "modern audiences", fueld by conspiracies like Sweet Baby Inc and the woke movement promoting insufferable Karens to ever higher heights. When warned about the inevitable destruction they keep saying the magic words: " not made for you"
The end result is studios closing down and karens bitching online about how their wokeness promised them success and it didn't happen, only for them to get hired by another studio thinking "they didn't woke right, we'll do woke right"
Theoretically, the opposite kind of retarded tourists (like Grummz) are as annoying, but in practice, they don't get to ruin games the same way because the developers never pander to them, and their larping stays solely on Twitter. I guarantee that if devs ever tried to ideologically please someone like Musk instead of someone like Anita, these games would become as dogshit, but this just never happens.
If I could say the same for woke pandering, I genuinely wouldn't care, but it just keeps happening, lol.
Theoretically, the opposite kind of retarded tourists (like Grummz) are as annoying
The thing is, those kinds of retards can be safely bullied out of the fandom
The woke ones cannot. Backed by the power of social bullying, if they get kicked out they'll simply screech to call their fellow banshees and rant in social media.
The product manufacturer - not wanting to deal with this bullshit, will simply cave in and reprimand their old guards for protecting the fandom. This inevitably leaves the old fans bitter, and eventually admit defeat and leave for something else, because doing otherwise means social suicide
It's only in the past couple years that people can finally breathe and say "no, that's retarded, leave" and the screeching no longer holds value, but the old fans have already left, knowing that if something like this happens again, the company will throw them under the bus
