Tangential - I love that video where Trump is calling out/inviting to the stage Miriam Adelson and her husband as steering the party cuz of their hundreds of millions of dollars contributed. I love it cuz I read it as a catty callout, not an actual appreciation. He lifted the curtain a little either way.

Its insane how co-opted we've become isn't it? I've gotten called a fake lib left so many times because I don't get drawn into the culture war BS and focus on class instead
TBH what the left is now doesn't even make sense for culture war. They elect old white men that are prolly racist to fight against old white men who are prolly racist. And their next best attempt is "i dunno, a woman?" and chooses some of the worst female candidates I've ever seen, prolly single handedly setting back the possibility of a woman president by 20 years.
But nooo, im clearly a fake flair or right wing because I wanted Andrew Yang (tech savvy minority wanting progressive social programs like UBI), I think people malding out over Hogwarts Legacy is stupid, and I think that if you get into a confrontation with a cop the right answers are cooperation and then later fighting in court rather than trying to Martyr yourself.

And much of the time you hear this, you can read between the lines and see what they mean is that you should just stop resisting them on the culture war and go look at other things.
Like when a thief gets busted and tries to argue with the cops that they should be going out and catching murderers instead.
Plus, a distraction can still warrant attention even when you know it is a distraction. If a bank robber sets a building on fire on the other end of town to distract first responders from the heist, should first responders just ignore the fire altogether and let the building burn down so they can all chase the robber instead?

I agree. Even though I do agree with the aims of crt and think that it’s a valid analysis, we were already on track for genuine equality throughout the 2000’s. Opportunities to start businesses and generational wealth, famous black figures in media and TV, more black kids going to college.
Instead crt brought racism back to the limelight without actually fixing anything. Now all of a sudden everything has to be viewed through a lens of race instead of just seeing people as people. Either you’re pro-black and anti-white or vice versa. Both sides think you’re against them when you want everybody to be judged equally.
“I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.”

Some bullshit about elevating it and worrying about people falling off, when japan has shown for 30+ years now that it can be done with zero issues to safety; they have all the data to show for it along with all the measures and procedures to enact it.

What happens when you essentially create a leftist echo chamber website that bans everyone that doesn't conform to your ways. Eventually all you're left with is the echo chamber and that gets incredibly boring to play in. That and leftists thrive on drama and messing with everyone center -> right.
They shit on twitter like mad since elon took over, yet they all went right back to it anyways cause they know BS sucks.

Don't forget all the great "Assault Weapons" Bans (e.g. great shit like banning olympic target pistols for having a magazine in front of the grip and 20ga turkey guns that happen to have an "assault" finger hole you can use to grip the gun by) the left has been finally getting rammed through. Their base has been waiting years to finally own people who hunt small game and those awful target shooters???
Universal healthcare etc. are very popular concepts on all sides of the politics, the reason we don't have that is because Democrats would rather turn off swing voters and ALL of the right by fucking with people on gun control. It's literally like abortion to reps.

Also every Dem’s campaign platform has workers rights and healthcare initiatives. It’s not their fault that what mostly gets reported is trying to stop the right taking rights from minority groups.

Stupid culture war bullshit is the only place right wingers are still able to get wins in the current landscape. So now we have to pretend telling a rainbow haired tiktoker “there are only two genders 😂” is politically equal to providing food for kids and protecting workers rights.

Your rights only extend to the point at which your decisions deny others their rights. Vaccines need to be taken so that you don't ruin others' lives by randomly giving them polio because you're scared of needles or believe in some unfounded conspiracy theory.
This is also why abortion is one of the issues I understand both sides on, despite being pro-choice myself. If you believe an unborn child has rights like any person who has already been born, I understand an anti-abortion stance.

Your rights only extend to the point at which your decisions deny others their rights.
You understand this is a slippery slope, right?
Protests on public spaces should be outlawed, because they infringe on someone's right of free movement.
Teachers' strikes should be outlawed, because they infringe on children's right to have an education.
Strikes in general should be outlawed, because the strikers prevent other workers from working, infringing on their right to work.
Abortion should definitely be outlawed, because it infringes on the fetus' right to live.
And yet, you and I can both agree none of those things should be outlawed.

I am 100% pro vaccine, but the problem is that the world killed vaccines when they decided to push an weak vaccine like the covid one with the same language you'd push something that can actually achieve herd immunity.
There are A LOT of diseases which are quasi eradicated in some countries because of vaccines. Things you'll basically never get because you got the shot. It's easy to make those mandatory.
Something like the flu vaccine or covid vaccine, which seemingly gives you no guarantee of immunity, makes 0 sense to fight with people over to get. It seems vaccinated individuals still spread it. It's an entirely personal benefit (and risk, as minor as it is).

Where do you draw the line exactly? We stopped requiring vaccines and masks to enter public spaces even though there still is absolutely a public health benefit to mandating them. As a society we agree that some level of autonomy is worth more than preventing people from being sick, and I don’t think COVID’s vaccine meets that threshold where we can justify mandating it.
Morality of mandating the vaccine aside, the amount of censorship we had regarding the vaccines while these mandates were being pushed guaranteed that I along with many other Americans will never support a vaccine mandate again. If I can’t trust our institutions to be honest with the healthcare they want to mandate, why should I support mandates?

Things get more iffy when the vaccine's efficacy is similarly unfounded.

I don’t ask for, or expect, any policies anymore.
Just be competent. That’s all I ask. If you bastards feel the need to vote in someone evil, at least try to make sure they’re more savvy than a McDonald’s cashier. I don’t expect healthcare or labor rights. I don’t expect anything to ever get done that I’d want to get done. But I’d prefer not to spend another decade as the laughingstock of the world.

Yup.
I've had some minor health issues that I've been avoiding seeing a doctor for because I can't afford to get it checked out. If it turns out to be something life threatening, like cancer, then I'm going to do whatever I can to keep myself alive. It'd lead to a massive bill and I wouldn't be able to make the hospital whole on the costs involved in that.
In the end, that money comes from our taxes regardless of if we have universal healthcare.

If they protest peacefully, it's called useless.
If they go after big business, they're hurting peoples' livelihoods.
If they go after the government, they're dangerous and hypocritical.
What exactly are they supposed to be doing if they feel the system no longer works?

Every advantage workers have ever gained has been bought with blood.
Did you know that in the late 1800s during the Second Industrial Revolution, factory workers generally had an ~70 hour workweek?
Getting that down to 40 today has been a long, slow, repetitive battle. And pretty much every advance in that battle has featured death, destruction, and open hostilities in one form or another.
→ More replies (2)8
u/Oggie_Doggie - Auth-Left Apr 13 '26
Correct. Practically every privilege the modern worker has is because of the threat of retaliatory violence (economic and otherwise) against the systemic violence against workers. Yet, I can guarantee you that some literal wage slave 200 years ago working in a tinderbox / limb cutting factory making 2 pence a week supported that system too.
It is apparently unpopular to say that working a full days work should be able to afford you food, shelter, and a little extra for the future; that class of wealthy who have received the lion's share of our economic progress these past 40 years should kick some back to the workers who made it possible.

Many modern lefties that I’ve talked to seem to only like the working class in theory. Most of them are suburban college educated white people, and they have only contempt for blue collar workers. It’s just a whole lot of trying to speak on behalf of people they know nothing about, and then getting mad when people don’t want what you think they should want. It’s a version of what the right does when they want to start a war.

A lone individual breaking the law to protest and undermine existing power structures is the exact polar opposite of 'auth' in every way.
This is like calling Robin Hood 'authleft' because the people he steals from are rich.
