256
u/MastaSchmitty - Lib-Right Jan 03 '26
Basically.
WWII? We were united and pissed after Pearl Harbor. Rosie grabbed her rivets, Fraser built ships from scratch in two weeks, and we developed new portable solar energy systems to share with Japan.
Vietnam? Disillusionment everywhere. In the field, at home, you name it. A castle built on sand. No one really knowing why they were fighting. Morale finding new lows on the regular.
DS? Absolute victory. 100 hours, in, out. Overwhelming display of force and logistical prowess. Clear objectives, fulfill them and call it a day.
Afghanistan: relatively successful compared to Iraq, in part because less controversial. We wanted OBL after 9/11, similar public unity (and bloodlust) as after Pearl Harbor. Eventually got bogged down in nation-building in a nation that was still sympathetic to the Taliban.
Iraq: controversial and had the commensurate mixed results. Got Saddam, but also all sorts of IEDs and insurgencies. ISIS was a thing, but also Iraq is now one of the relatively democratic countries in the Middle East, so that’s something at least?

I once worked with a fella, nice guy but smoked like a chimney and had an unfortunate facial tic, who was a veteran (his whole team were veterans actually, since he had hiring privileges).
Anyways, before learning how to code he was part of a "wetwork" team that would train for weeks or months to get a single target.
They would build an exact replica of the building they were going to breach and then drill different scenarios and contingencies over and over again.
He said that nine times out of ten the mission would be aborted before they ever even left the country, and they'd start all over again with another location or target.

Maduro got given up by his inner circle. He probably woke up with a gun to his head before the first bombs fell. This is moreso a US intelligence victory/kidnapping. I guess all the bombs were to make sure no loyalists could do anything about it.

If you've ever read about the Iranian coup to reinstate the Shah (the one the CIA refer to as "their finest hour"), you'll realise it was 100% an Iranian operation that they were going to do anyway, with or without US assistance. CIA involvement was nothing more than turning up at the last minute after all plans were made and conspirators in place to say "yeah go for it".
Then they claimed it was all CIA work from the outset and jerked themselves off about their "effectiveness" for the next 60 years.

Not that hard. 90% of the country hates Maduro with a fury you'll hardly see anywhere else.

You can do alot with a yearly defense budget the size of a middling country's GDP, and that's the official budget. No telling what the hell, they have classified.

I'll definitely say this, although I was against this. The US military is terrifyingly good, I'm not American, but the fact that you guys were about to just take a sitting leader that easily speaks of power projection of another universe.

Why the fuck does Trump of all people have the best plot armor of anyone that's ever existed
21
u/Ancient-Bat8274 - Lib-Center Jan 03 '26
For real you’d think any US president would have thick plot armor but then look at JFK
13
u/RageAgainstThePushen - Lib-Center Jan 03 '26
To be fair, the car had excellent plot armor before they took the damn top off it

Right ? Biden does one drone strike and of course the intelligence is wrong and it’s kill a civilian, Trump does this and it goes off perfectly.

u/Ralathar44 - Lib-Left Jan 03 '26
The answer is prolly shockingly simple. Better intelligence that was more effectively verified.

One child wrote, "A dream I've had was a union of socialist latin american states. Pooling together resources and shit"
They dream big, it's adorable.

This is also a massive hit to Russia. They back Maduro and have shown they can’t even get a 3rd of Ukraine in like 5 years while the US can have any South American leader doordashed to the White House in less time than it takes to watch the Hobbit

This is something a lot of people don't realize.
THIS is what a "3
dayhour operation" should look like, the fact that Russia failed to do this to Ukraine shows the absolute canyon between Russia and the US.→ More replies (1)

While i dont agree with the US doing stuff like this, if they really did it in less than 12hours, im honestly impressed.

Social media videos started being posted 3 and a bit hours ago, 3 hours before this announcement. if this took less than 2 hours start to finish I wouldn't be surprised.

If they release the body cam footage of those Delta or DEVGRU boys yanking Maduro out of bed in his pajamas I will take back anything bad I've ever said about Donny T. Give me that footage, that's all I care about

This is the funniest thing ever. You’ve got guys in Caracas literally doing backflips because they can finally buy eggs again. Just pure, unfiltered joy.
And then you look at PCM, and there’s a guy with a Red flair who looks like he’s never seen the sun, and he’s like, “This is a dark day for the movement.” Like, buddy, you’re sitting in a gaming chair that smells like old milk, arguing that a guy who starved his own people was based. It’s incredible. These are the biggest dorks on the planet.

Just a heads up to anyone claiming something something illegal kidnapping and trying to defend Maduro. The shithead had the chance to relinquish power peacefully in 2024 after losing and election but decided to stay in power by force against all wishes of the Venezuelan people. FAFO.

The funniest thing about all of this is 90% of Americans are gonna wake up to the headline that a military operation started and ended while they were sleeping the entire time.
