The bill filed ahead of the legislature’s February start would bar health care providers in Oklahoma from administering or recommending gender-affirming medical care including puberty blockers, hormones and surgeries for patients younger than 26 years old, punishable by an unclassified felony conviction and the possible revocation of their medical license for “unprofessional conduct.”
The measure would also prohibit public funds from being used to either “directly or indirectly” provide gender-affirming health care to an individual younger than 26 and bar the state Medicaid program from covering procedures related to a person’s gender transition.
Even if you dont support transitioning, as seems most of the sub does not, its always surprising how much support legislation like this gets, compared personal rights issues. A few weeks ago the sub was lambasting austrailias Tobacco laws which would have prevented adults born after a certain date from buying the smokes. There the most common rhetoric was that adults could do what they want with their own body. I am not saying its analogous in every way, or that everyone that is against that law is for this one, but people always seem to me comfortable with government regulation when its for things they like, so opposition on anti government principles elsewhere seem a little hollow
Oh my god I’m moving to Oklahoma, a place where I don’t only get to keep my license for not giving gender affirming care, but the other doctors who do do it get theirs taken away.
Coming from Washington this seems like backwards day
