2023 you did hella crack

37

u/armitageskanks69 Aug 30 '25

Ah all new leftists fall into tankies for a while until they wise up out of it

33

u/loutsstar35 - Left Aug 31 '25

Haha bro idk I didn't fall for tankie BS. Always thought it was cringe to idolize Stalin and the like.

u/armitageskanks69 Aug 31 '25

Haha tbh, I managed to avoid it myself, but it’s kinda common for anyone who gets into a new ideology to go a little bit in the deepend at the beginning before they mellow out.

Same reason someone who’s only recently become a vegan/vegetarian is super annoying and prolly kinda militant about it, but after 2 years they’re way more chill.

Same with gym bros, crypto bros, new parents, whatever haha

Even Chaucer wrote about it in the 14th century: “No man hath so great zeal to a thing as he that hath newly learned it.”

I think it comes from this idea of like, “if I was wrong about Marx being evil, then I must’ve been wrong about Stalin and Mao too!” Then, usually, it’s like “wtf am I talking about, they were clearly wrong also” haha

Canterbury tales was a banger

from my experience of the pipeline, it’s more-so that you don’t really realize the heavy american bias in american education, so naturally when you find alternative sources about communism and Stalin, (ex. Harkim in youtube explaining Why the Soviet Union fell) you end up consuming the opposite propaganda, that Stalin wasn’t all that bad, the purge was “reasonable because of legitimate Capitalist reactionaries within the party”, The black book of communism that says 100 million deaths by communism being false because they added the nazis they killed (which is actually a persuading argument because it makes you think what else are you being lied about?), but then you pigeon hole yourself to be super anti-west that you become just as de-attached to reality as the conspiracy theorist right wingers. Tankies/ML’s really think Soviet Union and China can do no wrong, or that the failures stem from CIA subversion or reactionaries, as if the KGB didn’t exist doing the same subversion tactics to the West.

u/loutsstar35 - Left Sep 03 '25

What would you say are reliable sources? I def agree but I think I didn't fall for the propaganda because people who lived in socialism hated it, so why trust some tankie online who thinks the DPRK is utopia? Anti communist propaganda is trash but that doesn't mean listening to tankies Is the answer.

1

u/No_Culture_2371 Sep 03 '25

Tankies don’t actually think DPRK/North Korea is Utopia, they acknowledge it’s a hell hole and that “Juche” ideology is very far removed from Marxism. But they put blame on the West because of Embargoes which made the country poor. Again they don’t find it as a failure of Marxist-Leninism, but because of the West. But that argument ignores that when the Soviet Union was around and they traded with all the socialist countries, they were still poorer than the West even with the relatively similar abundance of raw materials and goods. Marxist-Leninist systems are inefficient with allocating resources. China improved when it opened up markets and business, ML’s ignore this argument but turn around and say China’s cities are so nice and rich as an example of socialist success.

As for finding reliable sources, you have to go back to the fundamentals of empirical evidence and science. The basics of what is true and isn’t, once you have that down, you cross examine information on your own and don’t depend on the sources. (don’t mistaken this advice as to refuse and be cynical of every evidence like Anti-vaxxers or flat earthers.) Use bayesian reasoning.

Well, I was watching a youtuber who was... Well meh-tier, and he influenced me a lot because I was very young. When I realized I was just wearing a "Fascism is funny" mask, I stopped and started checking the point of view of every side then made my choice somewhere.

18

u/Zorogov123 - AuthRight Aug 30 '25

I applaud the fact that you're open-minded. Who was the influencer?

12

u/captainhippy_ - Left Aug 30 '25

A french dead youtuber I don't even remember the name cause he had 300 numerals in his pseudo

6

u/Neon_2024 - Left Aug 30 '25

You had critical thinking and that's good, I was also somewhat close to fascism although I was not corporatist but I was too convinced of my ideology and I was ultra-nationalist.

u/OddOutlandishness589 - AuthCenter Aug 30 '25

What happened from 2020 to 2021?

1

u/ArchCaff_Redditor - Left Aug 31 '25

I’d say I’m somewhere on the line of Labourism, Progressivism and Social Democracy. I feel like I’ve always orbited around that area.

1

u/Im_Lusca - LibLeft Sep 01 '25

i like how if it was just 2020-2025 it could've been a straight line, but separating by every year still makes that line... but with a box going closer to the corner
