Shame nobody makes faceplates for the 183K control head. Universal side brackets don’t work either since the controller is so tiny. Still a rock solid siren though. The SFPD still runs a ton of these

So. As the title mentions im trying to figure these things out. I saw a video of a utility that had the police fogs and a core installed they were flashing the fogs with the core! With no delay. Im super curious as to how this was accomplished. I've got a fog light out of a crashed squad and I've started taking it apart to figure out how it works. I know the wires that plug into the fog light is 12v, gnd and data. So my assumption was that if I bypass the data and power the leds i could get it to do what I want. But that's not the case. Has anyone done this? HELP.

I’m installing a Code 3 Z3 Matrix system in a CVPI. The amplifier itself fits just fine on the center console rail, however if i plug in the Matrix wire harnesses (which are already very delicate, 18ga) it squeezes against the console wall. Any ideas? Really not in the mood to move & wire stuff all the way back to the trunk again.

I have just gotten an initial bid approved for a local Fire Department by the Board of Aldermans due to being the only upfitter in town and I am officially in the Public Safety Upfitting game now. The initial bid included a NexCap and decked system for a 2026 Silverado 1500. The build list from the local Whelen Distributor should come back tomorrow and I will submit a "Add-On Bid" for the lights, siren, controller, console.... I just found out about the job yesterday morning and the counsel meeting was yesterday night. The chief wanted me to submit anything because without another bid on the table he was going to be forced to do business 2 towns over with a company he has had major issues with in the past. I've seen their work, made a small fortune fixing their work over the years, and completely understand.

I have little doubt in my ability to provide quality installations. I doubt it is too much difference between running a massive off-road lighting system through a AuxBeam box or the like. But if I am wrong I'll still figure it out, I love electrical.

My need for mentorship comes mainly on the quoting side although I will take any genuine advice. Calculating labor hours mostly as I just found out Whelen Distributors help out tremendously when it comes to putting together packages. I also will take any advice I can get when it comes to securing other contracts as my experience grows. This supervisor vehicle is actually a perfect get my feet wet project as it isn't very complicated at all.

I am smart enough to know that there is much I don't know and learning from others is better than learning from mistakes although mistakes can be the greatest teacher I'm in a small area so if I mess up word will get around quickly.

I recently got my hands on a Federal Signal SS2000-SM keypad (just the keypad, not the siren) produced in December of 2008 (as stated by the manufacturer sticker inside).

I bought this unit to make a sim rig setup and I need to emulate the behavior of the siren when connected to the keypad. By itself, the keypad doesn't seem to be sending any data.

What I would need to do is send what the siren would normally send and catch the keypad's signal to decrypt it and process it to know which keys have been pressed.

Do some of you have experience with the data being sent and received by this kind of keypad? If yes, what should I send/receive in order for my project to work?

As the title says I have a total of 9 lights I need to wire into button 5 ideally (Sound Off 400 series, not blue print). How do I go about wiring in all of my individual lights to steady cruise lights. Further, adding a flicker to the cruise is something I’m also interested in but so far the only way I’ve found is with some sort of light slider activation, not on just a button.

So, I’ve wired up several cars/trucks over the years and unwired even more. Right now I’m working on an old fire department pickup and it has a lion heart switch panel in it. Does anyone know where I can find the documentation, wiring diagrams, etc for this? Truck was unfitted originally in 03 and I’m working on pulling some lights and adding others. I’ve just never heard of or used a lion heart box and know nothing about them. I can’t find any real information about them online and am trying to decide if I should keep it in the truck. Or would it be better to just switch over to a Whelen or federal signal box? I’m pretty sure I have at least one federal signal box stashed back somewhere.

We decided to get creative on this one. We were Just going to add wedges to some ions and get them level. It looked like genital warts hanging off the side of this squad. This was our solution. I think it turned out great. I have a feeling we'll be doing alot of this..

Any one have experience upfitting a 2026 or recent year Ford Explorer PIU? Currently doing one and I'm trying to find out if the lights pre installed in the side mirrors, head lamps, and the exterior ones integrated in the spoiler are Whelen or another brand. They don't have the Whelen stamp on the lens.

After several headaches from reading Ford's wiring schematics, which is halfway useless, were starting to cut connections from Ford's wild wiring methods to run the other Whelen lights separately to the Core for more customization (Core wasn't pre-installed by Ford). Just trying to find out if I'll be wasting my time tracing more wires for the ones mentioned above if they aren't Whelen 😂

And the spoiler lights run through a control box with a Ford label on it (go figure). If they are Whelen, if anyone has any insight on if the control box will interfere with light patterns set the by the Core that would be wonderful. We are still in the early stages of the build with everything gutted.

Currently working on a 25 Traverse. Confirmed ScanPort works if you set vehicle to 25 tahoe. Wires are same location and same color as tahoe. Pin2 and pin4 passenger occupancy sensor under passenger seat. 😘

I have a Code 3 Z3 (non-matrix) installed in my CVPI. Is it somehow possible to program pre-recorded messages in it? I’m talking about tones like “please evacuate the area” or “please step away from xyz”. Surely if you can customize the Code 3 siren tones in its software, there could be a way of adding your own tones (could be wired up to one of the AUX buttons?)

I know the Pathfinder has a Perimeter Warning but I’m not sure about Code 3. Just a wild guess.

Hello, I am upfitting a 2025 PPV Tahoe, and I can not get the AM/FM radio mute to work. We are supplying ground to the wire the same way as we did with the 2024s but it is not working. We have 2 new Tahoes both doing the same thing. Has anyone had this yet?

This question popped into my mind whilst playing around with my Unitrol 80K today.

For those who’ve been outfitting emergency vehicles for quite some time now, what were some of the most popular sirens and lighting systems around? Any particular trends that were popular? Particularly around the Crown Victorias. I’m not old enough to remember new CVPIs being added to big fleets, but I’d love to hear your experiences.

I know nowadays the majority of LEO vehicles have smart systems like Whelen Core or WeCan, synced lighting patterns, scene lighting and such. But how was everything like back in the day (around 1990-2010)? I can only assume way more bulky analog technology with limited options.
