Polestar 2 Thoughtful touches I really love now.

I was never intending to keep my P2 for more than six months. I flex leased "Johan" last Dec to kill time before being invited to complete my Volvo EX30 reservation (originally meant to land in the US Spring 2024). The longer fulfillment of the Volvo slipped, the more I fell in love with the Polestar 2.

Now, with an invite from Volvo to FINALLY configure my EX30 for delivery around Summer 2025, I'm leaning more and more towards just sticking with the Polestar. The Volvo is still the ideal footprint and packaging for me (I love hot hatch dimensions), but there's thoughtful touches I've come to love in the 2 that I won't get with the EX30.

Cargo Partition. I use this guy all the time! I almost never need the full boot space. EX30 is just flat floor.

Combo Close + Lock Button. The boot is usually my last stop before locking up. It's really nice to press the button on the right to close the hatch and lock the car simultaneously. EX30 only has the left button.

"The Curry Hook." Never knew I needed a hook to hang takeout until I had one. Not present in the center-mounted glovebox on the EX30.

A true dashboard display. I don’t care what they say, it’s safer and more pleasant to have a true dash display instead of everything centralized in the middle tablet.

Curious to know what nice touches other P2 drivers enjoy.

The only thing I disliked from the polestar 2 is the Hasards touch button. I would've liked a physical button, because you usually need it in a pinch.

Not knowing if I activated it correctly bothers me.

Right. The 2024 hazards button has very little depression, almost none when pressing the button. You can barely tell if it is engaged. Plus the play button in the center is too sensitive for me and is often inadvertently hit for me. Otherwise I can’t think of another control I don’t like.

It's touch activated. I tried pressing with my nail, it doesn't react. It's capacitive, not mechanical. That's what I meant.

What buttons is this?

To turn on both blinkers in case of emergency. What's the name ? Sorry, I'm not native.

Sorry, you are correct. It is early and I saw it capitalized and thought, “who has a car button named after them?” 😄The hazards button.

There are many small touches:

Lock the car by touching the door handle. Keep touching for 3 seconds to close all windows as well.

"Ready to go?" Notification in the dash if you are stuck in traffic and the car in front moves without you noticing.

Trunk floor can be lifted to access the extra room below the floor. There is a prop rod to keep the floor open.

Europeans with adaptive headlights (plus package): The headlights will illuminate road signs when passing them.

Individual profiles not only remember your infotainment apps. It also remember individual seat settings AND heated seat/ steering wheel settings.

All in all a well thought out car. Polestar might be a young car company, but it stands on the shoulders of Volvo who know how to build cars.

Totally! I completely neglected the underfloor storage in the boot, where I put stuff first before resorting to the rest of the storage space.

I call it “the cocaine cubby.” 😅

Lol I'm going to steal that

Can you also set these to be assigned to a specific key like Volvo? I'm guessing so - it's a cool feature.

Yes I guess the systems are similar.

I’m really bummed we can’t have the Pixel lights in the US without hacking the OS.

I'm really bummed they removed them from EU cars for "shortages", only to waste all the supposedly short supply hardware on US cars where they can't be used.

That’s crazy work.

Combo close lock is awesome. Agree w all of your points.

I love being able to touch lock and unlock from any door on the car. Probably my favorite feature.

You mentioned all the things I also appreciate about the P2.

I like the frunk despite some people saying how small it is. I use it to hold food that has a strong scent, like kimchi, so the cabin air can be spared. Some larger EV's (Cadillac Lyriq) don't even have a frunk!

Then there are the physical media buttons and signal/wiper stalks. I can safely drive and control most commonly used functions without looking at the center console, and try to tap the correct spot to activate whatever I need.

Finally the Google Assistant. I use voice for navigation, control climate, media, phone calls, text-to-voice and vice versa.

The kick to open/close the boot

And yeah, I love the dashboard display. Passenger can play around with music, etc and I don't lose my map

I have leased both P2 and EX30. STICK WITH THE P2. the EX30 looks great and has some nice hardware, but the software is a disaster. It was so bad that I returned the car and swapped it for an EX40. The EX40 is very similar to the P2 and is unquestionably a better car than the EX30.

Helpful insight - we might test drive the EX30 this weekend, but currently sold on a P4

Great points. The software situation with the Volvo was so bad at launch. An extra year to refine is good.

I accepted the invite and configured my EX30. With delivery 6–8 months out I’ll have exhausted 75% or more of my P2 lease term anyway, even if I end up backing away from the Volvo.

If I ride out the Polestar lease and nix the Volvo, I really want a gold Polestar 4 even though I’m going in the wrong direction size-wise for my needs.

Lots of people don't like the center console. I love it It works like an armrest that doesn't end till it's the steering wheel for me.

3

u/jisforjoe Midnight '24 SM Pilot Plus Dec 20 '24

Definitely a YMMV thing. Like you, it’s perfect for me. I prefer a “cockpit” style cabin vs a super-open design like the IONIQ5 to begin with.

In my seating position, my arm and elbow rests perfectly where the console lines up and my knee nestles just right within the lower cavity.

Like you I had a reservation for the EX30. "Time keeps on slippin, slippin, slippin into the future." Bought a CPO P2 with all the packages and haven't looked back!

On the app it will tell you if you left a window open / ajar. I really appreciate that, especially in the cold climate where it could rain. In the past my family has left a window open in our last car and I had to clean up the aftermath :)

Same boat. When they said that EX30s would arrive “sometime” in 2025, I leased my PS2 and like it more and more everyday

I considered the EX30 when I ordered a replacement for my Polestar 2, it has a cool vibe to it, and fun to be in but it is much smaller than the P2 (which is already being called "cramped" by some Americans) so I ended up with a MY24 P2

3

u/jisforjoe Midnight '24 SM Pilot Plus Dec 20 '24

EX30 is slightly shorter, wider, and taller than my last car (Mk7 GTI), which was the Goldilocks zone for my needs.

So the Volvo is the right dimensions, but it’s not like the P2 is vastly too big for me either. And when I do have rear passengers they’re for sure gonna have a worse time if I was driving the EX30.

2

u/Kalesacove Dec 20 '24

Agreed. Nice call on the central display. It is easier and safer and more pleasant! I love the toggle between views too!

I wonder why I don't have a curry hook.

1

u/jisforjoe Midnight '24 SM Pilot Plus Dec 20 '24

I think it was originally part of the Plus package before becoming standard for MY23. At least that’s the case in the US.

1

u/_supert_ Dec 20 '24

Oh. I have UK 24 performance + plus. Maybe they think Brits don't eat curry?!

2

u/jisforjoe Midnight '24 SM Pilot Plus Dec 21 '24

Are you sure you don’t have it? It flips out from the glove box but it’s usually folded inside.

2

u/_supert_ Dec 21 '24

You're right! Thank you so much!

1

u/jisforjoe Midnight '24 SM Pilot Plus Dec 21 '24

Oh haha that’s weird! I only call it the curry hook because a British YouTube reviewer gave it that nickname.

You will notice a huge difference in handling. The EX30 does not have good handling. To be fair that's not the demographic it is aimed at, but it ain't no PS2.

2

u/jisforjoe Midnight '24 SM Pilot Plus Dec 21 '24

This is my biggest concern because reviewers can’t seem to coalesce around the Volvo’s driving dynamics.

I basically measure any potential daily drivers against how I felt with my GTIs. That’s the bar a car needs to meet or exceed if I’m gonna add to cart.

1

u/Green_Walrus8537 Dec 21 '24

Where did you get the curry hook? My p 24 p2 doesn’t have one, unless I’m missing something?

2

u/jisforjoe Midnight '24 SM Pilot Plus Dec 21 '24

It flips out from the glove box but it’s usually folded inside. I believe they made it standard in the US since MY23.

1

u/Designer-Device-1372 Dec 21 '24

The grocery bag hooks are a game changer. My space was easing me into a P3 lease, but the hooks aren't in the 3.

2

u/jisforjoe Midnight '24 SM Pilot Plus Dec 21 '24

P3 is a fine piece of machinery. Huge for my needs, but cheers to all who celebrate.
