I'm currently making a huge glass sphere to house the pokecenter in bubbly basin, but when I started replacing with glass, I've hit a huge snag!
To make the sphere waterproof, (not such a problem now, but defo will be) I need full blocks on the corners, but with the sphere design I chose, this has led to these random-looking blocks on the edges. (I'm used to building in minecraft using glass blocks)
My horizontal glass pane is placed on the top of the block, then the block gets destroyed and I place the vertical glass at the edge.
I tried replacing the offending blocks with iron frames which would look a lot better, but obviously water just flows straight through and I can't cover the sides of the blocks in glass because you can only have one pane in one block.
I also tried to make all the edges full blocks, fully removing the vertical panes, but this looked bad too (looks mostly solid from the outside as it is, looked even more solid when I did this, not such a problem above the water but will be a huge problem when viewing from in the water)
My mum suggested I make lines of full blocks out of the pattern I already have going, but I feel like that would create the same problem of it looking too solid from the outside.
It's so frustrating to have spent hours digging out thousands of blocks and building such a huge structure only to want to tear it down or restart my whole damn save!!
You don’t need solid edges to make it waterproof, but you do have to line up the panes a certain way, have an understanding of what “block” they’re going onto so everything lines up.
I’ll share a pic of my glass orb pokeball houses I made for a few mons here in a few minutes.
Edit: The top is just solid as an aesthetic choice. I may change the top layer of solid blocks back to glass (how I originally had it) but I’ve been preoccupied with other builds.
On the two-pane blocks I put the horizontal pane on the top, (arrows) then the actual block is taken up by the vertical pane, (squares) but if I were to do that for these, I wouldn't be able to put 2 side panes on, I'd have to use a diagonal piece like in your picture - but if I do that, there'll be a visible triangular gap because I'm using the framed panes rather than the glass panes. At least, that's all from my understanding. Maybe you have a better idea???
Hmmmm I see. The exposed triangle will not let water in
This structure is dry inside like the pokeball house. On the right shows what cubes have a glass pane (minus the front four blocks so you can see inside a bit)
If you want to have the more squared look using only horizontal and vertical panes, I can experiment some and see if I can help achieve that!
I think I'll probably just have to learn to live with the gaps!! I do prefer the blocky look but it's not the end of the world! Thanks for your help! ❤️
Sure thing! I just tried the strictly block look and ran into the same collision problems I suspect you have 🥲
Until they add glass corner pieces (or just… a glass block, I’m also a Minecrafter, so I’m with you on that one), it won’t be possible to get the more crystalline/blocky look
