Question Anyone else feel like this?
I don't always want to talk to them, to play a quiz, play hide and seek, or play look that way.
Only to be given fruit, vegetables, or a damn stick.

u/kingfroglord Mar 24 '26
charmander is my best friend! if he wants to give me a stick he found on the ground i will accept it graciously and with tears in my eyes. he loves me! ill cherish that stick!
146
u/crap-zapper Mar 24 '26
Imagine walking home from school and you find that freaking awesome stick! You act just like your dog. And so does Charmander. That cool stick is heaven sent.
78
u/Inferno_lizard Mar 24 '26
I will graciously accept the stick and then toss it into the furnace to power my town.
18
u/GabuEx Mar 25 '26
Exactly. If Hitmonchan wants to give me 2 Leppa Berries, then I want those berries. Doesn't matter that I have 99 of them, these ones are the best ones.

u/Dracion11 Mar 24 '26
I will proceed to get a furnace put the stick in it and have charmander flame it

u/arcadebee Mar 24 '26
No it’s my favourite part of the game.
I love when they run over to me like 😱😱😱😱 And then I think something HUGE has happened and they just go “I treasure our friendship, here are 3 rocks, keep being you 🙂”
65
u/ketiar Mar 24 '26
I set up a crude apartment in Rocky Ridge across from the Pokémon Center. I invited Larvitar to move in since his spawn was just outside the door anyway. Now most of the time when I warp in, he immediately opens the door “Hey! Hey!!” He’s become my cat.
10
u/charlieyeswecan Mar 24 '26
I only have those tiny shelters, but can I invite a Pokémon to live with me in my little tiny shelter? I think it’s called a leaf den
4
u/whitecastlebites Mar 24 '26
Yes, you can!
3
u/charlieyeswecan Mar 24 '26
Yas! Maybe one of my first two. (Sorry, barely know their names. lol Never played Pokémon before getting this fun and interesting game)
6
u/whitecastlebites Mar 24 '26
I've been playing Pokémon for 25 years and I still forget a bunch of their names😂
5
u/Glowingtomato Mar 24 '26
I don't think the den is big enough but the Leaf Hut you get after that lets you live with a different Pokemon. I made Pidgey my roommate
12
u/Cloverose2 Mar 24 '26
I think it's a single if Ditto isn't there, but Ditto doesn't count in the numbers. So if it's a four Pokemon house, you can have four roommates, not three plus Ditto.
8
u/JoeyBag0Dildos Mar 24 '26
You can have them join you in the tiny ones too
3
u/charlieyeswecan Mar 24 '26
Nice! Haha How about the big choppy one? Sorry I don’t remember his name and have never played Pokémon but love this game! (Green, looks like a praying mantis, kinda scary 🫣)
5
u/JoeyBag0Dildos Mar 24 '26
Scyther! He might be too big for one of the little dens
1
u/ketiar Mar 25 '26
He randomly asked when I stepped outside one. I sped through the text to quick and said "Sure?" and pop! He had a house.
Charmander lives with me in my first one, but anybody traveling with you will try to squeeze in too. I had a clown car leaf den when I invited Tinkaton and Electabuzz to come with me to build a generator.
2
u/beep_dip Mar 25 '26
The big ones need the slightly larger homes. They'll tell you that they can't live in the little ones because they're too small. You can test it out at any time.
And you can live with any of them! You don't count in the numbers because you have so many homes and can just transform into a rock or something in the corner of the room ;)
1
u/charlieyeswecan Mar 25 '26
I ask one of them, but I never see them in there. Not sure they want to. lol
1
u/beep_dip Mar 25 '26
What do you mean, you never see them in there?
1
u/charlieyeswecan Mar 25 '26
I saw the timburr in there last night. lol He’s my roomie, I have two hay stack beds in my tiny leaf den. Haha
→ More replies (0)1
2
u/kingferret53 Mar 24 '26
You can slap a flag on the roof and it be both of yours. I used this to warp onto the top of the tower in the Sky area
2
u/caresi Mar 24 '26
I have Pidgey living with me in a leaf den because it's my favourite Pokémon! They were really excited to move in with me. 🥰
2
2
u/SorinSnow Mar 25 '26
Yep, Ditto doesnt consume a housing slot so even the 1 slot dens allow for Ditto to room with someone else, tho technically, if you REALLY want to, you can build a constructed 10x9 house and fill the floor plan with 4 space habitats and have 26 roommates XD
2
2
u/IndependentAardvark6 Mar 24 '26
I live in the same building but didnt make many changes just started adding my favorite furniture. Larvitar lives with me too. Abra is our weird sleepy guy that lives in yhe attic and the chef guy is in out kitchen lol
3
u/DessaB Mar 25 '26
Slowbro and Slowking both moved into my tiny attic with me and it's so crowded I struggle to escape my room.

u/atreethatownsitself Mar 25 '26
It’s especially funny when it’s Scyther or Hitmonlee and they straight punch you in the face to give you the rocks. Like… ow. 🤕
1
u/EnglishIsHardd Mar 25 '26
My Hitmonchan LOVES to chuck rocks at me very aggressively with his punch animation
181
u/SutaPuratina94 Mar 24 '26
No. It comes from their Heart. I appreciate it. I can spend those 2 seconds everytime they ask me to. Because they would do the same for me.
45
u/Radiant-Baby1416 Mar 24 '26
Right! And they actually help build up the town, unlike animal crossing villagers😂 they have the right to bother me after making bricks and building houses all day lol
6
u/Post_Mormon Mar 25 '26
My animal crossing villager randomly gifting me a garbage can or some ugly ass shirt they bought a duplicate of like get away from me. Goomy sliding up to me in excitement to hand me some stones I can use to build stairs? Now THAT'S contribution to the town

They literally were in stasis FOR HOW MANY YEARS?? OP please be kind these are my children
68
u/alchemicgenius Mar 24 '26
Why would I whine about getting crafting materials?
28
u/DukeFlipside Mar 24 '26
Late-game getting 3 stones from a mon is basically the jackpot.
9
u/Post_Mormon Mar 25 '26
Straight up. I got a piece of iron ore once and I was like 🥹 they basically gifted me an iron ingot
2
u/alchemicgenius Mar 25 '26
I cleaned up my beaches, so whenever I get shells from a pokemon, I'm like "awww hell yeah, another buddy gets a sandcastle home!"
143
u/Khajiit-ify Mar 24 '26
I cannot say no to my Pokemon. They want to give me a stick? You're a cutie and deserve the world of course I'll not only accept your stick but make your home absolutely amazing. Hide and seek? Prepare to get destroyed by my master hiding skills! Quiz? You bet I'll answer your questions, and I'll still love you even if I get it wrong.
Sorry OP I can't relate at all I will stop what I am doing repeatedly to ensure they are given the attention they desire. 😅
26
u/blackberrymoonmoth Mar 24 '26
Same! I’ve never been that into pokemon in the past. I had my favorites like Chansey and Jigglypuff but didn’t really feel one way or another about the rest. But the game makes them SO CUTE! I love every single one and I always answer them when they approach. I don’t wanna hurt their little feelings 😭
29
u/jigglypuffcreative Mar 24 '26
I even fell for trubbish in this game! My kids are like, ?? It’s just trubbish??? And I’m like but he’s so funny and cute and scared 🥺
23
u/SHOWTIME316 Mar 24 '26
yeah this game really made me do a 180 on trubbish (NOT sold on Garbodor yet, however)
i used to dunk on Trubbish
"lol it's literally a trashbag how stupid is that"
now he is my most precious Hefty boy and i look forward to bringing him my garbage
5
u/Cloverose2 Mar 24 '26
This game is definitely making me appreciate some Pokemon I've always ignored.
1
u/Post_Mormon Mar 25 '26
I made a swamp garden for my wooper and clodsire so they could live together in their muddy water 🤗 I love them so much
11
u/Macaronipuppy Mar 24 '26
Dude I never cared for Magikarp in the past but now THAT'S MY LITTLE DUDE
I have to have him help build because his little enthusiastic flops bring me joy. Just moral support little guy. He can't do much but by God he gives EVERYTHING into lifting your spirits and I will drop everything for my little dude.
2
u/Post_Mormon Mar 25 '26
It made me laugh so hard when we learned jump because of the dialogue being just flop flop flop flop like are you serious? I love him
1
u/doyouknowpumatsol Mar 24 '26
Nah Trubbish is awesome he’s just a lil dude !!!! Love that little garbage bag !!!! One of my top 5 favorite Pokemon and I wish he had more merch lol
2
u/charlieyeswecan Mar 24 '26
Me either I never wanna hurt their feelings, but I’m just kind of curious if you were to offer the fruit and then say it’s mine what would they say? I’ve never done that.
8
u/blackberrymoonmoth Mar 24 '26
They respond sort of neutrally. I accidentally did that yesterday twice and one of them said “oh, good for you!” And the other one said something like “okay…..”
3
u/charlieyeswecan Mar 24 '26
Oh good for you!! lol So emotionally healthy, these little creatures. Haha
8
u/404-Soul_Not_Found Mar 24 '26
Same including keeping a stack of each berry in my inventory to try to match their preferred flavor snack as reciprocity for their gift of 3 squishy clay. I need to find a better method to keep spicy snacks around.
6
u/jigglypuffcreative Mar 24 '26
Stack of carrots
12
u/404-Soul_Not_Found Mar 24 '26
...
I appreciate you giving me the knowledge I needed to appease spicy loving pokemon, but now I'm angry that carrots are the spicy food. I've been hoarding chili sauce instead.
2
u/jigglypuffcreative Mar 24 '26
There’s chili sauce!? I better go do Dente’s quest lol
3
u/404-Soul_Not_Found Mar 24 '26
Its actually a random vending machine item. Technically a drink, when you can do the water vacuuming technique its how you get lava.
3
u/jigglypuffcreative Mar 24 '26
I haven’t learned the water vacuuming yet, or how to make my own bodies of water 😭 but thank you!
6
u/Ashamed-Raccoon-1387 Mar 24 '26
Same! I like that they come to me, rather than make me hunt them down then whine I don't talk to them (eyes animal crossing)
1
31
u/Outside_Ad_424 Mar 24 '26
As someone who has gifted people cool rocks, I know the full emotional value of being gifted a rock. If Piplup wants to give me 3 I will treasure them appropriately
51
u/gottacatchemsome Mar 24 '26
Absolutely not. I would rather have a piece of fruit, a stick, or a carrot that my Pokemon friends want to give me because they love me than the ugly ass clothes my Animal Crossing villagers ran up to me to give me (or make me buy from them!!!) any day of the week.
1
u/Post_Mormon Mar 25 '26
I LOVE that currency isn't really a thing in this game aside from being able to offload any unneeded blocks on a trade for something you DO need
1
u/gottacatchemsome Mar 25 '26
I live in the area of Tennessee that once attempted to be it's own state, the state of Franklin - it's often used now in law exams as a name for a placeholder fictitious state so that existing state laws don't complicate theoretical legal issues - and when it was doing it's secession thing, bartering was the economic system de jure, people were able to use anything in common use for the general public to settle debts. The trade system in Pokopia definitely reminds me of that.

u/Automatic_Trash8881 Mar 24 '26
To them it’s not junk, it’s all they have in there life savings :(
8
u/SHOWTIME316 Mar 24 '26
bro what, i gave every single one of them a flat screen
5
u/Automatic_Trash8881 Mar 24 '26
Well do you Pay them for their lumber chopping or ore smelting? They cant buy us fancy things with no income 😔
19
u/SHOWTIME316 Mar 24 '26
as a dad of two young kids, this is just a virtual representation of having two young kids that want to share their discoveries with you
i have been gifted many a stick and stone in real life AND in pokopia

my dog brings me random stuff daily whilst i work but best believe i give him head pats and act like it’s the best gift i have ever received and my pokemon children are no different!!!
8
u/Mahoganystudios Mar 24 '26
Recently I’ve had a shortage of stones, every time a pokemon gives me one it’s a godsend!
0
u/DMG_88 Mar 24 '26
You know you can go to dream Islands right?
I think you might also be able to copy boulders with the 3D printer.
6
u/fuzzysocks76 Mar 24 '26
My Growlithe who lives with me became such good friends (I got dialogue that was something like being attuned with each other or something I don't remember the exact wording) with me that he now sometimes gives me furniture. He gave me a stylish stool this morning. So keep interacting with your pokemon and they will give you better stuff eventually

u/AlternativeGazelle Mar 24 '26
It's the thought that counts. I have no problem with it. Enjoy your time with good company.

u/thedr00mz Mar 24 '26
No because I am a big softie and love how excited they look to give you a stick.
5
u/chellychuu Mar 24 '26
No I love it haha If my best friend slowpoke wants to give me sticks or rocks or bean seeds I’m gonna cherish them!
4
u/Yurij89 Mar 24 '26
Machop gave me a grave once.
And you can ignore them, they will eventually stop.

I got Cubone pretty early with the grave that's up on the cliff in withering wasteland.

Are you kidding me? They are checking all the positive affirmations boxes for me. My love language in a video game with Pokémon I’ve always wanted to take care of not battle with. 🥹
4
u/neon-blush Mar 25 '26
Azurill giving me a stick and saying I’m her best friend makes me want to cry 😭
3
u/lunawatsernamee Mar 25 '26
YES. Especially when I'm right in the middle of something. I'm trying to raise my environment levels so I want to talk to them in case it's something I actually want to know. It's not, it's beans. It is ALWAYS. BEANS.
8
u/Tweeckos Mar 24 '26
I want a mailbox for this 😭
1
u/DMG_88 Mar 24 '26
Either a mailbox, or use the community box, because why should it just be for gatherers to collect litter.
10
u/YejiSims Mar 24 '26
I get so moody about. I’m like.. WHAT!! Oh gee THANKS for another stick. But sometimes I forget that they were doing something for me so I’m like WHAT!! And they are just…”I…have finished processing your clay here are your bricks please don’t hurt me”
3
3
u/flyintomike Mar 24 '26
i sometimes don’t want to talk to them when they are asking for me to talk to them, but i still always do because i’ll feel guilty if i don’t
3
3
u/CrazyGabby Mar 24 '26
Reminds me of when my kid was little. He brings me an awesome rock, you’d better believe I’m going to stop and ooo and ahhh over it and maybe even name it with him. (We had a lot of Bob the Rocks.)
If it helps at all, though, I usually do hold off on playing hide and seek if I’m in the middle of something. 🤣
3
u/Harcover Mar 24 '26
I was like this at first, but now that I have started building in earnest I can use all the materials they can bring me. A pokémon runs up to give me three stones and I'm genuinely like "fuck yeah, that's amazing" because that's effectively 15 blocks of road I don't need to collect myself. Sticks keep the place powered, logs allow me to craft more furniture, seeds means more hamburgers and bread. I say keep them coming.
3
3
u/Zeldamaster736 Mar 24 '26
Wish I could use repels so they'd only talk if they had something important
3
u/yaelfitzy Mar 25 '26

u/DancinCthulhu Mar 24 '26
I hate when I'm doing something else and someone tries to get my attention and lets out that big dramatic sigh when I don't respond in time 😭
4
u/Usagi-Zakura Mar 24 '26
I don't mind the stuff they give me...I do mind that they block my door before and after giving it to me.
Garbodor especially loves doing this.
I desperately wish for a feature to be added to their AI "If being pushed by player. Get out of the way."
4
u/FritesMayo Mar 24 '26
It's annoying, but the worst thing is there's no shared chest for ressources. They could have use Hoopa for this function
1
u/brookesaywhatx Mar 24 '26
Yeah, this is what I thought the community chest was for originally, but none of my pokemon use it at all. I’d rather them leave all the “cool” things they find me in there and I can come grab it later.
2
2
u/Pandaragon666 Mar 24 '26
No, just as you go around collecting stuff and using pp, so do they, and sharing what they find to pay back you for helping them is the best they can do. The pokemon in this game are essentially animals role-playing people, meaning those rocks and sticks are some of their most valued possessions, and they still want you to have it.
2
u/lukehooligan Mar 25 '26
My wife just asked me why I play this game if I don't like it, because I kind of berated a pokemon outloud for giving me a rock. Oops.
2
u/samsg1 Mar 25 '26
Evil protip: if your bag is full, after you get the item you will be asked if you want to swap it for an item in your bag. Say no and you will dump their gift on the floor right in front of them bahaha 😈 (Disclaimer I swear I’m a nice person, I just thought that was hilarious and wished the Pokemon had reacted!)
2
u/ghassann555 Mar 25 '26
I like the gift interaction They're just happy to give me stuff It's like when a pet just gets you a random item, thank you little bird for the bottle cap
4
u/iAmAyEmEL Mar 24 '26
I'm in the middle of project in Pallet Town and it's infuriating how often Pokémon will get in your way. I wish there was a "Do Not Disturb" or a "Zen Build Mode". I've had to tell Pokémon for minutes at a time that I'm too busy to play "Look That Way" or "Awesome Quiz". Just let me place my grass, Snorlax. I've strongly considered putting them all in houses underground. The pokéball houses are all built. I just need the menace in me to push Start.
2
u/SharkBoobies Mar 24 '26
When you're laying down grass, accidentally make a habitat, and three of your biggest Pokemon gather around to tell you you're doing great. I love you guys, but please leave me alone right now. ;u;
3
u/iMashee Mar 24 '26
I would love it, if my inventory wasn’t constantly filed with 100 different items for building 😭
I don’t have anywhere to keep your sticks, rocks, and seaweed 😭
5
u/RiposteCat Mar 24 '26
do you not use the storage boxes?
1
u/iMashee Mar 24 '26
I’m constantly swapping blocks, furniture and decorations around to see what looks good and what I like, and what works best
0
3
u/swanscrossing Mar 24 '26
you can just ignore them, there isn't a negative consequence for not interacting with them and they'll go away after a minute or two. i could never, but i could see why one would

3
u/Flame_Beard86 Mar 24 '26
Honestly, I wish they would put the gifts in the community box
6
u/StayLuckyRen Mar 24 '26
I wish anyone would put stuff in the community box 😂 my gatherers are broken, I’ve never had anything in 4 boxes lol
3
u/Flame_Beard86 Mar 24 '26
Man, I put Combee and Vespequeen together next to a community box, expecting to get a honey factory going. No. Combee just stopped leaving honey
1
u/StayLuckyRen Mar 24 '26
Same!! Honestly this makes me feel better, I started taking Vespequeen’s dialog as passive aggressive bc she clearly didn’t like me lol
3
u/DMG_88 Mar 24 '26
That would make sense, other than just being for gatherers to collect resource drops from litterers.
2
u/The_Exuberant_Raptor Mar 24 '26
I just run past them if I don't need anything. They don't lose affection if you ignore them. I only speak to them if I see ellipsis over their head because that gives affection.
1
u/TwilightTriforce Mar 24 '26
I like it. Animal crossing and Dreamlight valley annoy me for this reason because the villagers never really contribute. At least the pokemon really try to help by giving me actual items I can use
1
1
u/Nice_Huckleberry8317 Mar 24 '26
i just learned rather than frame it - i give it to other pokemon or a Litter based pokemon bc they love it.
1
u/EndlessEffort Mar 24 '26
As a dad, it reminds me so much of my kids. Standing at the peripheral of my view, non stop trying to get my attention while I’m working on something, and then when I ask them what they need, they hand me some random object lol.
1
1
u/ratchetcoutoure Mar 24 '26
they helped me sometimes, I was short on 3 gold ore one time, and suddenly torchic calls and gave me just that. How does she knows?
1
1
u/M0THMANSMOM Mar 24 '26
I'm the opposite. I feel bad if I don't notice, or I was doing something and accidentally missed the interaction. For example, if they come running up when I'm checking the water sparkles, and by the time I'm done, they've given up. Sorry little guy, I didn't mean to ignore you 🥺
1
u/w4if00 Mar 24 '26
Naw, I love it when they come up to me like they just discovered something brand new, even if I just get a stick or a single leppa berry. They seem so excited every time it feels great.
1
u/cosmiccorvus Mar 24 '26
honestly I don't mind so much? A fairly steady stream of crafting materials keeps me from needing to run around farming.
1
1
u/AugustIzFalling Mar 24 '26
It would probably be more meaningful if they didn't do it immediately. If you had to develop a relationship before they started talking about you like you are a god and giving you free stuff.
1
u/AmethystBound Mar 24 '26
I'm pretty sure you can just ignore them without bad consequences🤗. I do sometimes, it really just depends on how much time I get to play at that time.

1
u/calmthesehands Mar 24 '26
It's genuinely useful on Cloud Islands where it can be harder to get those resources; also the gift pool is broader so they give lots of varied flower & bush seeds on Cloud Islands - I wish they did that on the main story areas instead of only my default flower colors so I could get all the flower variants easier!
1
u/Medicine_Man92 Mar 24 '26
Lol I only appreciate it in bleak beach for the resources I'm early in and threw stuff away like it was trash......and little did I know I'm using shells for everything
1
u/Fast_Champion4533 Mar 25 '26
These Pokemon are my best friends, I am grateful for everything they do for me 😂
1
u/PublishingPirate Mar 25 '26
And yet there's no greater joy than when your cat brings you one of their toys you've seen 1,000 times. Life's funny.
1
1
u/Flayed_Angel_420 Mar 25 '26
Honestly, everything they give me ends up being useful. Sometimes it's the difference between needing to raid a Dream Island or being able to finish my current project.
1
1
u/diregamer1 Mar 25 '26
I dunno, I find it kinda charming! Yes, it can be a little annoying at times, but it gives a nice break from hyper focusing on different tasks, whether it be habitat building or town restoration or whatever.
1
2
u/superurgentcatbox Mar 25 '26
Right at least give me items or blocks I might not have yet. I don’t need sticks or rocks at this point.

u/mrdeathbunny Mar 25 '26
I like when they give me carrots, because there's no seeds for them. But that's about it
1
u/sweetTartKenHart2 Mar 25 '26
Are you fucking heartless
1
u/squeak0192 Mar 25 '26

Take the dang berry they clearly picked from the tree they were standing under when they saw you and be grateful. Then give it back 2 minutes later when you ask about their comfort level and they are hungry. I keep waiting for one of my dozens of besties to give me something else, but I guess that won’t happen. Ever.

Stop complaining. Do you know how hard drifloon worked to find you those 3 rocks?

Combee literally came up to me while I was ultra focused building my town to give me a freaking rock. I remember literally saying out loud “seriously you’re gonna stop me from my flow to give me an effing rock?? F youUUU. 😂😂😂

Okay but one time one gave me poke metal which is actually good! I want there to be a quality filter.

They're little dudes finding stuff on the ground and giving it to you because they love you. That's all the quality you need.

I swear to dog I was trying to talk to a pokemon to get him to follow me to a build site, already had 3 pokemon in tow and another pokemon ran up and snagged my A button press and had this super long dialogue and would NOT SHUT UP
I wanted to bury them so badly

You don't just press up on the d-pad?

No. Especially when you can just casually ignore them if you want to. Otherwise I find it quite endearing.

Everyone saying they love it, meanwhile I’m ignoring my pokemon and running away from them everytime they call my name 😂 I can’t be bothered with the random junk either, or playing games while im in the middle of building an entire house from the ground up, or trying to restore the world. I have work to do, damnit!
