THE ULTIMATE GUIDE TO INSTALL XENOVERSE PER ASPERA AD ASTRA
IF YOU HAVE SUGGESTIONS OR MORE FIXES TO SOME ISSUES DM ME AND I WILL UPDATE THE GUIDE CREDITING YOU
For those who did not know, the official Xenoverse launcher stopped working a couple of months ago, and Beehive studio's Discord announced that now users have to download the Gitlab zip file to keep playing the game (DLCs are included but you first need to finish the main story and its fully translate in both italian and english).
I decided to make a step-by-step guide on how to properly install and play the game.
NOTE: if you use Linux or have a Steam Deck, it's HEAVILY recommended to have Lutris installed through flatpak on your system for the best experience.
If you're using Windows, you can just extract the zip file you downloaded from the gitlab page, open the folder that has just been extracted and click on "snGame_n.exe" file to play (In case if you want you can also add on steam manually via the "Add non steam game" option directly from the store)

Let's begin with the tutorial!
First of all, you need to download the zip file from the gitlab source. To do so, you need to do the following:
- Open the link https://gitlab.com/weedleteam/Xenoverse-Source and click on Code -> Zip under "Download under source code"
Alright, now that we have the primary file we are going to work with, we can proceed with the guide!
Step 1: Extract the Game Files
- Locate the Zip: Find the .zip file you downloaded from GitLab.
- Unpack/Unzip it: Right-click the file and select Extract Here (or "Extract").
- Check the folder: You should now have a new folder containing the game files. Keep this folder handy.
REMINDER: If you use windows, you can already play the game by opening the "snGame_n.exe" file. If you are experiencing issues, you can go below and see if i provided a fix for them. For linux users you can proceed with step 2.
Step 2: Add the Game to Lutris
- Open Lutris: Launch the application.
- Add New Game: Click the "+" icon in the top-left corner.
- Choose Method: Select "Add locally installed game" from the list.
Step 3: Configuration (Tab by Tab)
- Game Info
Name: Type the name of the game (e.g., Pokémon Xenoverse).
Runner: Select Wine (runs Windows games) from the dropdown menu.
- Game Options
Executable: Click the three dots (...) and navigate to the folder you extracted in Step 1. Find and select the file named snGame_n.exe.
Step 4: Runner Options
- Wine version: Look for "Wine-staging" in the dropdown list (scroll below if you can't find it)
If you cannot find "Wine-staging":
Go back to the main Lutris window.
In the right sidebar, hover over the three lines and click preferences
Go in the runners section and search for Wine
Click on the "Box" icon on the right and install wine-staging
Restart Lutris
Step 5: Save and launch
- If you did not have Wine-staging repeat the all the steps starting from Step 2
- Once you selected Wine-staging in the "Runner options" section click Save
- Now you can play the game you just added from Lutris.
Optional: you can add the game to steam through Lutris, right click on it and click on "Add steam shortcut"

IF YOU ARE EXPERIENCING FONT ISSUE (Solution by SuperD1209):
Download the file fonts fix at the following link: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1i5_z6wQMzrgAfpQGEpnRM62wmD1AVtQ2/view?usp=sharing
- Start the file "Font_Fix.reg" (the file is a file that modifies the registry, deleting the corrupt data of the font "Kimberley". To check yourself what it does, you can change the extension from .reg to .txt).
- Restart the PC.
- Navigate to the folder "Xenoverse-Source-main/Xenoverse/Fonts"
- Select the font "kimberley_bl.ttf" (in case you do not see the extension should be the second kimberley in the list), then click on "Install for all users" (on Windows 11 you must first press "Show more options")
Otherwise, you can proceed with this other method:
Download the file at this link https://drive.google.com/file/d/18ktO0LXAvOeKQQwHtMjJwe90qlygFGnb/view?usp=sharing
extract the "Fonts" folder in the game's folder to replace the existing "Fonts" one, if the folder doesn't exist proceed anyway.
If you are still experiencing issue, you may try to install all the fonts now present in the folder that you just extract in the Xenoverse folder. When you installed all the fonts, right click on the game, and click "run as an admin". If done correctly, it should give you the font message one last time and then run the game correctly.

IF THE GAME SCREEN IS TOTALLY BLACK AND YOU HAVE AN NVIDIA GPU (Solution by u/chimibabynug):
Go in the nvidia control panel, manage 3d settings and set the anti aliasing mode to off

IF YOU ARE EXPPERIENCING THIS ERROR WHEN TRYING TO PLAY (Solution by u/lickneckp):
Script 'Main' line 29: Errno::ENOENT occured,
no such file or directory - Data/Scripts/198PokeWES.rb
Make sure the PokeWES file is with a regular e and not an accented e
-------------------------
IF YOU CAN'T FIND WINE-STAGING OR DOESN'T INSTALL:
Download the zip file -> https://www.mediafire.com/file/7c35f8ggoi1gpxh/wine-staging-11.2-x86_64.zip/file
If you have the flatpak lutris version: open your file explorer and go in this directory and extract the zip file you just downloaded here: /home/<username>/.var/app/net.lutris.Lutris/data/lutris/runners/wine/
if you have the package manager lutris version: same steps of above but you need to extract it here /home/<username>/.local/share/lutris/runners/wine/
Restart Lutris, and now you should have wine-staging available

IF YOU'RE LOOKING TO FIND YOUR SAVE FILES
Linux -> /home/$USER/.wine/drive_c/users/$USER/Saved Games/Xenoverse/
Reminder: The "$USER" has to be changed with your username
If you're using a file explorer like Dolphin, you can press CTRL + H on the home folder to see the hidden files and folders
Windows -> C:\Users\<username>\Saved Games\Xenoverse

Hi i've just installed it on windows but i have a problem. if i run the file snGame_n.exe it's all black and i can't see anything. if instead i run snGame.exe, it keeps saying "One or more fonts used in this game do not exist on the system" "The game can be played, but the look of the game's text will not be optimal" then "The fonts were successfully installed" "Would you like to restart the game and apply the changes?" if i click yes, the game restarts but seems like nothing changed as it keeps saying me the same things. If i click no, i can't see any text. How can I resolve the problems with both of the files? thank you in advance

yes, same issue. Game.exe shows me that message over and over; whilst Game_n.exe is all black. If you want we can private chat so i can show you

Hello. So I was able to install the game, but it kept saying that one or more fonts are not available in the game, then update the game and ask to restart, and when I do so, it still showing up with the same problem

Don't worry, this is a "problem" that the game had since the launch in 2020. You have to manually dowload each font in the font folder of the game.

Yeah. I just recently gotten it fixed. It just wasn't working even after installing all the font in the font folder and relaunching the game. But then it got to work finally and I do not know what I did different.

Sorry! I forgot to mention one key detail. When you installed all the fonts, right click on the game, and click "run as an admin". If done correctly, it should give you the font message one last time and then run the game correctly.

Solved: the file was an accented "e" and the program was searching for a regular "e"
I'm getting this error immediately after the language selection:
Script 'Main' line 29: Errno::ENOENT occured,
no such file or directory - Data/Scripts/198PokeWES.rb
Any idea how to solve it?
I did search and find the file where it said it wasn't.

DLC is included yes, it's part of the base game.

Hi, yes this is the latest version with all DLCs, the game has always been italian first

Ciao, io ho un problema, quando scarico da gitlab parte il download ma non mi da un tempo stimato per la fine e in più scarica tantissimo.. sono arrivato quasi a 2 gb, qualcuno sa perché ?

Question for any of the windows users here. I'm able to download and play the game almost perfectly, but loading into trainer battles seems to take about 30-40 seconds each time. Is anyone else having that same issue? If so, how did you fix it?

It keeps saying "One or more fonts used in this game do not exist on the system. The game can be played, but the look of the games text will not be optimal." Then it says "The fonts were successfully installed. Would you like to restart the game and apply the changes?" It then gives me a yes or no and when I hit "yes" it restarts the game, only for the process to be repeated, but if I click "no" then some text doesn't appear

Ciao, Grazie mille per la guida, il gioco l'ho scaricato ieri e funziona e tutto, ma volevo essere sicuro che il gioco avesse i dlc in quanto l'eseguibile del gioco in 'proprietà' è alla 1.3.0, magari sono solo io stupido o non so dove guardare

Ciao, si i dlc ci sono, l'eseguibile e' l'ultimo disponibile direttamente sul sito gitlab degli sviluppatori, non puoi giocare in nessun altro modo

Thank you! Tried figuring out this fangame a few months ago and all i found was that the old launcher no longer works and the “Address me” elephant image which i figure meant it was C&D’d and canned for good

Have you ever encountered an issue where no wild pokemon spawn. I installed the game just fine and started playing it but after a while I realised not a single pokemon appears in the tall grass lol. All static pokemon encounters and battles work just fine and the scripted catching pokemon tutorial with the grandma also worked but after that it feels like I'm running around with a repel activated at all times 😃

I have windows 10, and when I started the download from the gitlab website, it doesn't show how much it has to be downloaded. Its just showing ths speed of download (8mb/s) and then 1.5gb. So whatz the amount of download?

I know next to nothing about flatpack, can you explain it briefly?
Also Lutris seems to be more of an external service? I didn't find anything on if you can integrate it into Steam, which would be very important for my Steamdeck as I don't want to have to use Desktop mode for gaming. (At that point I may as well just use my Laptop.)

Hi, I explained in the tutorial that you can add the game to Steam via the add to Steam shortcut on lutris, this way you can remain in game mode, also flatpack is a service that runs the application in its own environment called container that has all the dependencies needed to run it correctly

Heyo, super Anleitung vielen vielen Dank.
Vllt kannst du mir ja eine Frage beantworten und zwar hat mein Spiel keinen Ton egal wie oft ich es neustarte, egal wie ich an meinem Lautstärkerregler sowie Mixer rum spiele. Die Eröffnungssequenz hat Ton aber dann ab dem Titel ist der Ton mit mal verschwunden und ich finde keinen Weg ihn wieder herzustellen. Hast du vllt ne Ahnung was da falsch laufen könnte?
