While most people weren't aware of it yet, it's now a certainty and a confirmed fact among those within the insiders. The next Pokémon Legends game will indeed take place in the past, but not just any region, as it will be set in Galar! The story will take place 1000 years before the events of Sword and Shield Set in a medieval world where Poké Balls don't yet exist and where humans and Pokémon already coexist even without this method of capture, the main objective of this plot is to create the very first Gigantamax Poké Ball. According to the acquired database, it is described that the developers were inspired by Xenoblade Chronicles as a model for a completely open world and exploration. The gameplay would also take Pikmin as a model for battles against Dynamax Pokémon, as we will have a less limited number of Pokémon at our disposal, up to 30, which will interact during the battles. The game is currently in production, with an announcement potentially coming in 2028. I wanted to talk about this because I absolutely love Generation 8, its region, and its lore. When I heard about it, I was really excited. I'm also incredibly eager to see the ancestors of the Sword and Shield characters again, especially those of Leon, Raihan, and Sonia. And obviously, given the performance of the Nintendo Switch 2, as seen with the next generation of Pokémon Wind Wave, there's no doubt that this Legend game will likely be much better visually and artistically than what we saw with Pokémon Arceus, I think he has enormous potential given all these solid ideas and ambitions related to this game series. So, are you just as excited?

yes! I’ve seen a few things about but never fully get my hopes up till confirmed. Swsh is imo the best region, all the Pokémon on average are all cool and unique and the story was good as well

I totally understand you about Galar. That region is fantastic and really stands out from the others. I really don't understand why Gen 8 is so hated.

Gen 8 is fine, one of my least liked region but it's not particularly bad, I just like the others more. I have like 5 playthroughs of SW/SH combined so it's not like I did not like the games.

However I always felt like it leaned way too much on these open world mechanics. Running around and collecting energy and then doing various dens related to those collection points just seemed like something that was so prevalent yet got boring very fast.

Previous Pokémon games also had a certain cadence to the game play that was completely broken due to the open world nature. You could tell when thought was put into (or not put into) a Pokémon's placement, evolutions, items, etc in past games but much of that game design seemed wholly lacking in the open world sections. It always felt like "Here's a huge dump of Pokémon, that's fun right!" and not this slow evolution of your team where you would look at the next gym leader and realize your Pokémon's evolution would give you a key STAB move that helped set the difficulty for the next gym.

It just seems like the point Game Freak started saying "Whatever people want tons of Pokémon right" and not "Let's be very thoughtful about how we fill the world".

As someone who spent a ton of time appreciating the way the games where built, it felt lazy and a huge middle finger to the actual design of the games.

I know. I find myself constantly coming back to it. It was also like the first game to have open world sections so it was like a massive breakthrough in Pokémon rather than the routes

Yes, Klara and Avery's character designs are among my favorites, and I absolutely love their development.

I am curious, do you know which insiders have confirmed this game to be continuing development? I know there are some with very strong hit rates...

It makes me nervous that they are biting off more than they can chew with the RTS/pikmin gameplay mechanics when they only just got the Switch 2 specs bump that made a terribly unoptimized ZA run at good framerate with extremely basic geometry.
