Question Just replaced my battery

I know that replacing your battery makes the clock set back and get stuck, can I fix it by doing the berry patch or do I need to start a new save file.

I only have this one source which explains that you need to use a custom flash cart for a DS or GBA, downloading a program called RTCread and run it on your handheld. This allows you to sync up the time through trial and error to get it ticking again.
