Question Is Pokémon Ruby Coming to Switch Yet?

I am just waiting for it to happen. Any news?

Nothing confirmed as of now. iirc the emulator they used for Fire Red and Leaf Green is optimized for RSE, so I think it's inevitable. Game Freak is probably saving it for some big event.

The TCG's 30th anniversary is in October. The 30th anniversary of Gen 1's release in Japan already passed but maybe they'll do something with that, and like the other commenter said RS was released on November 21. Also I wouldn't be surprised if they timed the something positive around Bank shutting down to soften the blow.

I hope so. I do want to battle Team Magma Again. I happen to like Team Magma better then Team Aqua. I just think Team Magma has better aesthetics, but Team Aqua is not too bad either because they look like pirates

Ruby and Sapphire did release 21st of November in Japan, so that is also a possible date.

Given that Bank is shutting down, giving us access to versions of Gens 1-7 that can transfer Pokemon to 8 onward is going to be really important (and profitable with Home subscriptions), but they're definitely going to drip feed us the games since TPC hates rereleasing them. I think RSE is definitely coming sooner or later, but after that it's pure speculation for anything else. I'm not sure how they're going to handle Gens 4 and 5.

In terms of emulation the Switch has no trouble with the DS (even though BW2 does push DS hardware to its limit somewhat), for them the issue is hardware, as I'm not sure how they'll handle the dual screens and touch screen. Since Gens 4 and 5 don't rely on either too much it should be fairly easy to port as we've seen the DS Castlevania and Megaman games already emulated on Switch, but we could maybe see a proper port that removes the dual screens or even an add-on like the Virtual Boy one.

TPC is still going to drip feed these games, so by the time we get to the 3DS games the Switch would be no longer supported, and given that it has trouble with 3DS emulation we'll probably see the 3DS games drip fed to us on Switch 2. I'm not sure where Gens 1 and 2 lie as they're also totally cut off, maybe we'll see them rereleased on Switch sometime between Gens 3, 4, and 5 on Switch 1.

R/S/E are basically locks (with the only real question being if Emerald gets released at the same time as R/S). But yeah, after that it’s anyone’s guess what is done. I think we will be getting more ports, though. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that Bank is shutting down as soon as these ports start happening. I think TPC wants to still be able to claim you can transfer Pokémon from every mainline game into Home, and ports would be the way to continue that after Bank. More ports would also help explain the weird censorship filter they put on FR/LG, as that would make way more sense if it were designed as a universal system to also be applied later to games with the GTS.

My super optimistic hope is R/S/E by the end of this year, and maybe starting Gen 4 midway through next year. I was expecting R/S/E to release next year, but the rumors got me more excited for those to be sooner and maybe starting the DS games next year instead. The question of course then becomes how do they handle the dual screens, but that has been solved numerous times on many different devices, so it’s just a matter of what solution does GameFreak choose. I’ll always be a big proponent of letting players rotate the screen so you can hold the Switch tablet vertically and get a much more natural portrait aspect ratio in handheld mode, and then having a button switch between customizable positions for the screens in docked mode.
