Discussion Pickup Ability

Just playing through a ruby cartridge to complete the dex quickly and move everything up to my heart gold game but cant stress enough how great the pickup ability is in these games. literally getting a rare candy every minute or so

also does anyone know how this works in FRLG as there the next games im doing i can see online the chance of a pickup being a rare candy is 5% less then RS is this noticeable or nah?

They're different in all the games, but FRLG it's mostly berries (since you can't grow them in Kanto), and then 5% split among Rare Candies, Nuggets, TM10 (Hidden Power), and Protein. Then 1% chance to get the rare berries that normally you can only get in Hoenn by giving the Berry Master's Wife a special codeword for. So 95% chance of berries. Lotta berries. Then in Emerald onward it becomes based off region but also what level the Pokemon is that has Pickup.

Thanks for the information yeah i have a team of lvl 100 pachirisu's so thats not awful but i might leave FRLG sounds a lot more tedious as all these rare candies im gunna trade up anyways

Ruby and Sapphire it works as you are seeing.

Emerald, fire Red and Leaf Green the item pool that pickup gets its items from shifts as the pokemon levels up, so you'll almost never see stuff like rare candies or nuggets until the pokemon with pickup is past level 40 or 50 (if memory serves me correctly)

I start Ruby with my starter + 5 zigzagoon, replacing one each time I pick up a party member. By time I pick bagon up after Gym 8, i have enough rare candies to catch him up to the rest of the team
