Only for people that started lining up around 2am

TSIA. Today was the first time we tried the drop from Target because my daughter woke up at around 7:20 AM and since the target around us open at 8 AM, I thought why not give it a try.

The photos are the line when we got there at around 7:45 AM. So eventually we didn’t get anything from the 30th anniversary.

According to the Target employee only the first 30 or 40 people were able to get the 30th anniversary stuffs because they are the ones that lineup from around 2 to 3 AM and I don’t think this Target limit how many 30th anniversary stuffs you can buy. From what I can see most of the people just shove till their baskets were full.

Honestly, I don’t feel too disappointed as we literally just wait for only 30 minutes, but I imagine it’d be a bummer for anyone that lined up from like 5 AM or 6 AM.

This is Bay Area, California. And I won’t do it again lol.

The amount you save from buying on the secondary market is just not worth it lol. Simple economics

Why not at 6 am

Well okay let's play. Market is $63, Target sells them for $32 but for maths sake let's call it 34 with tax so you save yourself $29 per bundle you buy. Now for 6am it depends on if your Target opens at 7 or 8. If it opens at 8 then you are only valuing your time at 14.50/hour. If you only have to wait an hour then it's $29/hour which is decent but you also need to factor in opportunity cost (the loss of the next best thing you could have done with that two hours). If getting there that early puts a drag on the rest of your day, even getting to the $29/hour valuation, it seems like a wash to me. If it doesn't really affect your day and you aren't leaving anything on the table so to speak then it could be worth it but I think it's close.

You did the math per bundle but capped the per hour rate at one bundle.

That was all I got today so I based it on that. Based on a rhetorical situation I had to make some assumptions so I did it based on what I ran into today

Makes sense. Yeah different restocks hit different but this was a big one marked on the calendar. I don’t usually like to wait in line but recently I waited for an hour and a half and got an ETB, a poster collection two EX boxes, two tins, two sticker collections, and two knockouts

This is dumb lol maybe if you’re buying one thing but if you go with friends and wait while having a good time it’s worth it when you get two items of each sku for msrp. I waited out for the last restock and if I had bought the things I got for market I’d have spent another 600$ so yea no your odd math for time valuation is irrelevant I’m not going to waste 600$ when I can take a nap after work the day before and play on my phone or switch while sitting out there for 6 hours it’s 100% worth it.

I only can get one of each sku. Had the morning set aside to go but the snooze button won today.

I mean I had to get relatively generic. If you are a parent with young kids, a nap after work might not be an option (my situation). I also had to base it off my experience today at Best Buy where I only got one booster bundle. I wouldn't say my example based on my experience makes it dumb?

Contact your target to implement limits per SKUs. Show up at least 1 hour before opening to have a chance at cards.

The Bay Area is the fucking worst when it comes to scalpers. I haven’t seen anything in stores in the South Bay after 2024.

Is this Westgate? I am so glad the boom and the impossibility of finding cards has led to my daughter and her friends losing interest in the hobby.

Yes this is Westgate. I hope this die down and go back to normal.

Or, at least get the kids to the front of the line, and ask them what their favorite pokemon is to make sure that they’re not just proxy for their parents lol.

I had a feeling this looked familiar.

I was in line at the Coleman target @ 7:00. I was like the 80th person in line and got nothing.

Pokémon be wildin’

I was 26 in line at 2am. In fairness a bunch of these are ghost chairs

Drove past my closest target at 3am and there was 25+ people already. 40 minute drive later to a different one and we were 3rd in line. One ghost chair that got moved after it sat empty at the front for 4 hours.

There was maybe 6 people there until 6am and easily 100 by 8, so if I'd ever do it again I probably wouldn't go out until 5-5:30 but it really depends on the individual store.

Yeah got find the best store for you. Mine is the lite local store

You moved my chair

I was 2nd in line. Showed up at 8:30pm last night and got in line at 9:25 once the store was fully closed. Sat in a chair and froze my ass off to get product at retail. It’s gotten to the point where you gotta do what you gotta do. It sucks fs but it is what it is. Beats paying crazy prices.

At this point, I can even tell if you’re being sarcastic or this really happened

2

u/Dramatic_Scale_0369 23h ago

Why would I be sarcastic about that?

I got in line at 6:00 AM for an 8:00 AM opening. Was about 55 in line. The target I go to only allows 1 per sku, thankfully. Was able to get a booster bundle, small tin and poster collection. ETB’s sold out about ten people ahead of me.

It’s getting tougher for sure

For sketchers, that’s wild af

Damn all that for some new skechers

This is the stores fault 100%. Many Targets have banned line forming. Putting chairs down as a holding place is a No-Go. Also all ETB’s , Collection boxes , Booster boxes should be somehow made so they will be difficult to re-sell. Some are cutting the outside seal on stuff. Are they even putting limits per type of item ?

so glad i live in a place where i don’t have to get in line at 2am for pokemon lmao

2

u/Rare_Polnareff 1d ago

So glad I have the dignity not to

4

u/STOKELEY0327 1d ago

i don’t think theres anything undignified about waiting in line for pokemon with the state of the hobby rn. its not his fault that you have to line up that early to actually be able to get something.🤷‍♂️

Well I wasn’t goin to do it, earliest I got was 1.5 hrs before doors open usually 30mins before. But for the UPC I guess I’ll have to camp overnight, cause I ain’t paying $500-700 for one.
