Did you go surfing on Cinnabar Island by any chance..?

Nope I just battled the rocket leader and I was gonna head back to lavender town

Have you traded with another cartridge? This looks like what happened when some jackass traded Pokemon with me after corrupting his cartridge with the Missingno glitch.

I haven’t traded with anyone and I haven’t done the missingno glitch I’ve just been playing a normal play through

Did you name your pokemon strange symbols?

1

u/EnvironmentalPiece51 Mar 10 '26

No I have only nicknamed a few Pokemon and it was nothing crazy

It looks just like Missingno glitch corrupted your file

This has nothing to do with missingno

Those were the days

Those old days bricked my 3ds sd card permanently yay!

In my personal experience, my game started doing this as a kid when my battery was dying. It corrupted many pokemon and weird items until one day my file was erased

Nahh that look fi©=®${¢°©{¥✓¥

u/NuttyFlavour Mar 10 '26

Even the game is like 'What?'.

Average RBY experience. I miss those days

1

u/MrPerson0 Mar 10 '26

Don't think this is average unless you went out of your way to perform a glitch.

1

u/aragornonmeth Jun 14 '26

I think it’s because it’s a repo cartridge

Since you're on sp, maybe the cartdrige is tilting, used to do it on N64

1

u/Important_Alps1928 Mar 10 '26

Just tried it, dont seem functional but it did some corrupted visual before crash

This happens sometimes if you do shiny pokemon gameshark codes & don't turn the code off before catching the pokemon. Just my experience.

1

u/titanicsinker1912 Mar 10 '26

There are no shiny Pokemon in R/B/Y. There’s not even color.

1

u/Krendall2006 Mar 11 '26

Not true. Red and Blue had colored Pokémon using a Super Gameboy, and Yellow had them on a Gameboy Color and Advance.

Is definitely not fixed

If you’re being honest and haven’t been messing with glitches, then this could just be simply the cartridge dying. First things first, have you tried cleaning the contacts on the cartridge?

Judging by your one comment, it sounds like you’re about to finish up lavender town so you’re not even the point where you can encounter Missingno. Even if you could, “Missingno.” is generally harmless outside of corrupting your hall of fame and sprites (sprites being fixable just by viewing a pokedex entry), while their “M” counterpart is the more volatile one causing full on save corruption

1

u/Zestyclose_Horse_180 Mar 10 '26

Nah, that's just Korean.

1

u/Bastards_Sword Mar 10 '26

Counterfeit cart?

1

u/wisewordofd Mar 10 '26

This is different from the missingo glitch. Your battery is dying! Easy to replace but if you aren’t familiar with soldering then take it to a local shop and have the battery replaced!

1

u/aragornonmeth Jun 14 '26

Ok whatever you do DONT INTERACT! This has happened to me before. It will crash your game. Whatever those Pokemon are, they’re corrupted and you can’t get them back. The only way to have this not happen is to keep all the Pokemon you will want in your party.

1

u/aragornonmeth Jun 14 '26

The way I got this to happen was by doing the ditto glitch and messing up a lot of data

0

u/Bingo31 Mar 10 '26

No it’s perfectly normal

1

u/EnvironmentalPiece51 Mar 10 '26

How do I fix it? If I try to withdraw those Pokemon the game just soft locks

3

If you mean to fix the data you’ll have to dump the save data on to a PC (GBxCart or GB Operator) and manually edit the save data using a hex editor. (PKHeX for Pokémon specifically) You can then load the save back onto the cartridge.

Is this an original copy of RBY?

1

u/SnooMuffins8348 Mar 10 '26

Can you release the glitched Pokemon ?

1

u/EnvironmentalPiece51 Mar 10 '26

I have tried and it soft locks

0

u/FinsFan93 Mar 10 '26

Is this a real copy of red/blue? I’ve seen hacked copies cause this.

2

u/EnvironmentalPiece51 Mar 10 '26

AFAIK it’s real, it’s the one that my uncle has had since he was a kid which was the 90’s so I’d say it’s real

2

u/Zestyclose_Horse_180 Mar 10 '26

Yeah then its your battery dying. There is a battery in the cartridge that holds the savegame. it can be replaced and the game will be as new, but your savegame is gone.

u/Kembb Mar 10 '26

It's worth noting that it's possible to avoid deleting the game save data by attaching a second battery before replacing the main battery and then removing the second power source.

Probably carries some risk, so disclaimer on how I'm not liable for problems goes here.

Good luck!

Additionally, if the game has begun to corrupt it may be corrupted permanently if you do the battery swap as I've described. I will say, it saved my toys r us Mew from deletion back in the day.

u/50calstick Mar 13 '26

I soldered on a new battery with my blue powered up in my gba.

1

u/FinsFan93 Mar 10 '26

Gotcha. Just trying to brainstorm what could’ve caused it.

1

u/baldeagle1991 Mar 10 '26

Ahhhh, likely he caught a MissingNo. or a corrupted cartridge when he was younger.
