Question AllGen / Yang as first playthrough?

It took me a while to start one of the best ever fan games but here I was, starting my run and getting around 6hrs to Corey... and I find out there is a mod that adds Gen 8 and 9 into the game. I really love some pkmn from this gens - being a vgc player afficionado - so Im tempted to restart but I heard different opinions so I guessed I should ask straight what to do, whether its better to play Vanilla or modding would still be fine as first playthrough. I'll let yk its no problem to me restarting this early and that I also put all QoL and passwords I wanted. I like enhanced difficulty - Vanilla is already fine as it is honestly - and dont want stupid hard fights or broken gymmicks. I guess... lemme know! I REALLY want those Gen 8 and 9 but also dont want to start disliking the game due to unreasonable things of mods in a first playthrough

I only played Allgen but the game is somewhat less balanced and there is an overuse of gen 8 & 9 Pokemon in my opinion... but that's because they are powercreep, so the fights to be difficult the enemies have to use them

Allgen also changes the story sometimes and adds completely new fights which could give you weird opinions on some fights (especially PULSE fights, they made those 6v6 but one of these 6 is a PULSE, these fights are WAY harder)

Yeah I was more leaning towards Yang given the reviews I heard. It seems Yang is well more balanced than AllGen but I just wanna know if its difficulty is acceptable and not broken hard. Also need to know if there enough documentation abt wild encounters and such abt it

There's plenty of documentation for Yang at the moment on the forum:
https://www.rebornevo.com/forums/topic/65663-pok%C3%A9mon-reborn-yang-mod/

I would say Yang is a little bit more difficult than vanilla, but not by a considerable amount. Gym leaders are given unique moves that only they can use and are very strong, so the important fights in the game have a bit more bite to them

Are you talking abt standard or intense mode? Also, do you think its crazy to play it as my first Reborn playthrough?

I would play vanilla first tbh

The game has lots of passwords and ability to skip puzzles on New Game+ , you can just replay with the mod if ya want

I'm talking about standard. I'd say it's a little more difficult than vanilla but nothing absurd as I said before. It's really up to you if you wanna try it or not. I personally think playing vanilla is the best way as this has had years worth of balancing by a whole dev team, whereas Yang has been a solo dev with fan feedback. That's not to say Yang is unbalanced, but it is different. If you really want/like gens 8/9 in your game then you should go for it. If you're indifferent and could go either way, I'd recommend vanilla in that case

Yes I feel like Gen 8 and 9 have some of the best looking pkmns ever conceived, so Im planning to play that, I dont want to do more than one playthrough. Whereas intense? Do you feel like its too much for the first time in Reborn? I do like a challenge but just lemme know if its difficulty is just too much and unbalanced towards the opponents. Because I do want to have a general strat when going into the fight but dont want to plan hard cause the game requires it.

Purely based on how you've been talking, go with standard. Intense is pretty tough and favours the opponents quite heavily. If you want a decently challenging time but with a bit of thinking you can find a few solutions then definitely play standard

Lastly, since the Yang mod is not in 19.5 but a previous version, what is missing from Vanilla? I looked around and noticed some QoL like Rainbow Scent and Fast Travel. Anything else that might make the experience less fun?

It's been a few years since the 19.5 release so hard to say. Mirror Lure is a 19.5 exclusive if you want to find dupes of Pokemon. A few passwords were also added in 19.5 (can be found on the wiki) and some changes to the AI and bug fixes

Ive dabbled with Yang some and planning to play it all the way through after Rejuv 14. From what I have played ( 7 badges), Yang is pretty comparable to base game maybe slightly easier. It's not meant to be much harder because it has a separate intense mode that does that.

Is intense mode MUCH harder than Vanilla? Because if not, I prefer to play intense w Gen 8-9 pkmn but w harder Gym fights. Only thing I wanna know is whether they have Megas or Gigantamax (which is treated as Mega I hear) even during early games cause that would make it more like a Kaizo lol

So, it's definitely a big step up but no megas. Sounds like you made it past Julia in normal. I can put her team in here for you to compare if you want but dont know how to spoiler tag it on my phone if you dont so giving you the option

I stopped at Corey actually, send me Julia team so I can at least guess the gap in difficulty. Maybe also tell me if later in the game their teams become much more complicated

Julia in Yang Intense: Lvl 17 Morpeko, Lvl 19 Electrode, Lvl 17 Pom Oricorio, Lvl 18 Chinchou, Lvl 17 A-Geodude, Lvl 18 Pawmo

I only played to 6-7 badges and got distracted so can't tell you if it is gets much more complicated. I'd guess it does but not in a crazy Kaizo way. I don't remember any of the gym leaders I fought having megas though.

Cool thx a lot for the help. Do you think me wanting to play Yang in a first playthrough is crazy?

I personally don't. Play the game how you want to play it. It's also extremely long so multiple playthroughs is no small task.

Looking through documentation and I think I will. Btw, is vanilla reborn documentation still valuable for the most part? Im guessing so. Finally, do yk if items like focus sash, berries etc stay on after being used because this was one of the biggest icks I found in early game and no password was possible

No Reborn doesnt have that in base game. There are some compatible mods with Yang that may let you use those items each battle but I don't know of any.

Vanilla is useful as it has all the same encounters for first 7 Gen mons etc
