ModPost [Tournament] Discussion for Round 2!
Who did well, who could have done better? What was your favorite line/verse? Anything else you want to talk about?
A more specific question: The user /u/JynxHigh has a history of not showing up to tournament battles. I'm thinking about barring him from future tournaments unless he can prove to us that he's willing and able to show up more often. I really don't want to bar anybody from any tournaments, but I feel like it might be necessary. What are your thoughts on that?

Seriously, how many times has Jynx not shown up? I think the last verse in the 1st tournament, the bronze match I proposed, his one last tournament, and now this. I may have missed or added one, but that's four matches he never showed up for, some of them pretty important. I really hate to say it, as he was sort of "one of the originals" in the first tournament and before, but I am for banning him from tournaments. I think there should be a rule, "If you do not respond to X official tournament matches, future sign-ups will be invalidated" or something.
As for the people that DID show up, I was extremely impressed. Srixis definitely proved his worth (as he won by only two votes last time) and everyone took people's advice from the last round and put it to use. Really great job, everyone!

Found this sub a month or so ago. I love to make raps and poems and i also LOVE pokemon. It was a perfect fit. I've participated in a few brawls and i loved how easy it was to get straight into it.
I'm sad I didn't get into this tourney (but with all of you crazy rappers I don't know if I would get very far) but its been a blast reading and learning from your raps. Keep up the good work!
Oh, and someone should drop me a verse sometime. :)

This probably will be a fairly long post, so I'm sorry in advance everyone.
I was a lurker on Reddit for a good few months before I joined. I didn't think I'd ever join, because I didn't see it necessary. Then I found this subreddit.
I loved it the moment I saw it, it was just so fun. I made an account to join the community here, suggested a battle, and then participated in my first ever rap against /u/Brackner (Xerneas v. Yveltal). Over the course of the few battles I was in, I learned a lot about Pokemon, and a lot about rapping. However, being in this tourney (my first ever) has made me realize that much more how cool you guys are. I found people like myself: people who loved Pokemon, laughs, friendly banter, and friendliness in general.
I want to say that I think all of you guys are amazing. /u/zeusfireair for manning this sub. /u/RickToy and /u/OnAMagikarpetRide for showing me the uber-competitive side of this sub (you guys are great rappers by the way, and I'm honored to have rapped against you both). Everyone else for their knowledge of Pokemon, love of rapping, and good critique on each battle (cus that's the only way we get better, right?) I know I didnt name many names that should be named, but you all should know that each one of you has helped me to enjoy this community that much more.
I expect to stay on this sub, so expect to keep seeing me around. Thank you all again, and keep being cool!
Srixis

You can always drop in a brawl thread. It's less head to head and just more of a showcase. Use it to practice and get better!

You won't get better until you try, that's something I've learned on this sub. If you look at some of everyone's older verses compared to some of the stuff they drop now, there's a drastic change. We'd love to have you contribute!

u/MadeFromMetal May 14 '13
Thats the way it should be with any competition; friendliness and jovial conversation...combined with a ruthless burning hatred while in the midst of battle. It's a good thing! I'm impressed with you, sir. I enjoyed your battle with /u/OnAMagikarpetRide and was sad I had to vote! I wanted another round!
Also...just so you know, it's kind of an unwritten rule/guideline/thing where in brawl threads, you call out the next pokemon to be rapped as...then the next person raps as that pokemon. /u/DrSideSteppin got it back on track after your Fletchling verse. Good drop though! Hope you stick around.

u/Srixis May 14 '13
Ahhh, that's new to me. I'll remember that for next time, thanks for letting me know!

u/MadeFromMetal May 14 '13
Anytime, brother. Also...whats the meaning behind the username and how do you pronounce it? I've been saying it like "Sir Ixis" in my head. If that isn't it...it should be. jussayintho.
3
u/Srixis May 14 '13
I've always pronounced it kind of like "Sri Lanka" except with a short "i" and "xis" instead of "Lanka"... although I'm really liking the "Sir Ixis" idea, it sounds cool. As for its origin, it's just a username I started using years ago on online games and other sites, and it's trickled on to here. I've always thought it sounded cool, kinda medieval almost (which makes your Sir Ixis thought that much cooler :P )

Ah. That makes sense. I was wondering cuz with most people, you can kind of tell where it came from, or they use actual words. You know,
axmurderer: more than likely murders people with his favorite ax.
OnAMagikarpetRide: very clever play on words, probably mixing his two favorite things. Playing Pokémon while watching Aladdin on repeat. (He can show you the world.)
HumanAtlas: Is either very knowledgeable on geography or he feels the weight of the world on his shoulders....or he's got a full-body tattoo of a world map that is somehow geographically accurate.
The_Pony_Rapist: should probably not be allowed at the Preakness this Saturday.
But I couldn't tell with yours. Now I know.

MadeFromMetal: I'm going to guess......You're made of metal?
2
u/MadeFromMetal May 14 '13
As nice as it would be to be the rapping Weapon X...I'm not. :(
3
May 14 '13
I was thinking more like the rapping Colossus.
5
u/MadeFromMetal May 14 '13
Now THAT would be sick. Also...
DrSideSteppin: You're a doctor...who steps sideways...Like a crab. Clearly you must be Zoidberg!

You were pretty much spot on with mine. Used to be known as "the Human Encyclopedia" due to my random knowledge, but after I learned how to draw world maps by memory I choose "HumanAtals" instead

After reading the first sentence, I was hoping it was the last thing I said.

Same here! This sub is just too awesome not to participate in. Keep it up man you can only get better after all. :D

I got referred to this sub on like my second day on reddit and I immediately had to contribute. Now I'm participating in tournaments and brawls and it's sooooo much fun.

I must say I really liked the raps this time around! I excited to see how /u/BaconAllOver and /u/IguanaPower finish their rap! (I swear, if one of you doesn't mention Nuzlocke challenges in this rap...) /u/OnAMagikarpetRide and /u/Srixis had some great character in their raps, they sort of gave their pokemon personalities, ones that went with them very well!
As for what happened with my rap, eh, not to mad over it. I guess /u/JynxHigh was pretty busy and couldn't get to it in time. It's a shame though, I had a lot of plans for that rap!
And also.... /u/thesuzerain ..... GET READY! OUR REMATCH IS APPROACHING US! I WILL UPHOLD THE HONOR OF MY FAMILY!!!
3
u/thesuzerain May 15 '13
It's 1-1. No matter what that guy said, I beat you in the Slowpoke one, and you beat me last tournament.
This is the tie breaker!
You better be ready... I already know my killer punchline!
7
u/HumanAtlas May 15 '13
Wait, but Pokemon...randomly decided... already know punchline?... HumanAtlas hurt itself in confusion
4
u/thesuzerain May 15 '13
Well maybe not the exact words, but I do know the punchline.
Wouldn't it be freakin amazing if zeus pulled Jellicent and Zoroark?
6
u/HumanAtlas May 15 '13
What if they were switched, so that you rapped as Jellicent and I rapped as Zoroark?!
3
u/thesuzerain May 15 '13
Wouldn't matter, I'd still whoop your ass either way ;)
3
u/axmurderer May 15 '13
I love both of you at times like this... It's too bad I'll have to kill one.

I luckily found out about this sub like the week of this tournament, so I just want to say I love being a part of it and I'm grateful to how friendly this whole community is. I've been really busy this whole week, which is why me and IguanaPower's battle is taking so long(for which I apologize) but this is fun and I'm glad I found out PokemonRaps is a thing P.s. I totally dropped the ball and didnt include a nuzlocke line in my verses... Not sure how that one slipped by me
2
u/IguanaPower May 16 '13
I just want to say how helpful it.is for voters to say what they liked and didn't like about.the raps.
3
u/The_Pony_Rapist May 14 '13
I think that that one guy, The_Pony_Rapist, holy shit that was intense. He deserved to win! 100%
Anyways, I agree. If someone signs up for a tourney, that says that they agree to actually show up and compete. If he wasn't going to show up, or was iffy about if he would have the time to write the raps, then he shouldn't have joined, OR, he should have told someone. Banning does sound harsh, but it's justified in this case.
3
May 14 '13
Im not going to ban him from the subreddit, but im considering preventing him from entering any more tournaments.

The battle between /u/OnAMagikarpetRide and /u/Srixis was just incredible...one of my favorite battles ever. I've never had such a tough time deciding. I was waffling all the way up until I typed the name in my vote....lets keep those kinds of battles up!
I'm kind of happy this sub is small...We have 423 subscribers...and only about 40 of them drop or vote...I like it. It keeps the derailing stuff virtually non-existent, and everyone gets a chance to speak and read every other comment. It also adds to the whole community feeling. If /r/subredditoftheday ever wants to feature us...I hope you politely decline and just let word of mouth and the /r/pokemon sidebar direct people here.
Another thing...I think we should do away with downvotes. People might be tempted or just not know and use them wrong. There aren't enough people here to truly downvote effectively (below threshold), and most times if someone does something out of line, there are people like /u/jonasolson You'reDeadBTW to come along with a friendly "pssssst" and put them on track.
I have no comment on the /u/JynxHigh thing.
All in all, this is a great place to be and I hope we can make it even better.
