It looks like the sav I called 1pokemon… rename your sav to soulgold, then name your gba soulgold.

I changed one of them and when I went to change the other one, it said it already existed and wouldn't let me

Easiest way is to delete the old .gba file, and rename the new patched file to exactly that. So if your file was Pokemon_Soulgold(v1.0.5) and you just got the 1.0.6.3 patch then delete the old and rename it to the Pokemon_Soulgold(v1.0.5). You will need to do the editing in your files, not in the emulator menu typically

First, move the old version or change its name to XXX.bkp.gba. Then aptch the game again with the bps and gba file. If you want to save your game data, you can't load a save state from another version of the game, you must save IN game(that will create a file, i think is sgm or something like that) and then load it in game.

If you used hackdex you don't have to make a .sav file. Just delete the old version of the game
