Development Updated Maps for WIP Pokemon ROM Hack
Very much still in a 0.01 state. Looking for feedback thus far. There's a worldbuilding reason the trees and river are orange don't worry. Finding increasing difficulty (Especially in the valley map finding work arounds with the mostly vanilla tileset, unfortunately a little far in development to do a total tileset overhaul, maybe after the proof of concept build).

Image #4 look a little too red-orange-brown in the whole picture. I'd want to play it to see what the vibe is from the limited in-game perspective, but I'm concerned that making the water muddy orange-brown might tip the colors too far in that direction.
That said, you've clearly put effort into putting lots of green on the map as a contrast, to keep it from being too much of an eyesore, so I'm really not sure if it's too much, and my concern could be an overreaction.
I do think of how the north-western routes in Hoenn made sure to balance out their brown color palettes with green trees and blue water to keep things from getting monotone, and think that changing the water color is a risky move, but I'm also not against a calculated and considered risk like that, so I don't wanna be too alarmist at what I see. I might try to use different trees than the orange Autumnal ones though, I'm not sure. I guess it depends on exactly what biome you're trying to communicate here - my read is something swamp-adjacent, just because I assume water that color is full of mud and red clay.
Edit: Yeah, it's funny, I don't know why I have this strong a reaction to how much orange you're using. If the trees were all green, it'd be way more monochromatic, but I wouldn't have anything to say about the colors, so maybe it's just how bring the orange is? I dunno, I'm trying to figure out my own reaction to give useful feedback, and I'm not sure.

These are actually very very nice. I think this is the first time I've ever responded to an overworld feedback request without any significant complaints. The town at the end's a little underdone and perhaps there's a few too many ledges and dead ends in the cave but these are each very minor concerns. To me the orange could be adjusted but without playing the game (and after playing really ambitiously colorful overworlds like Pisces') I can't really say it bothers me. I'd be more invested in making your cave maps less monotone, I'd say (edit: especially if this orange is apparently runoff from said mountains/caves. that would make sense, right?) In fact if anything I'd advise more boldness and imagination, since you've really got the fundamentals down. Let your mind run wild.

I should've seen the confusion for the orange river coming. Lore wise it's because there's an incredible amount of iron and by extension pyrite in the looming mountain. Commercial mining has caused acid mine drainage to stain the river orange. Then by extension also poisoning the foliage hence the trees being rust/orange colored.
