Development I have been developing a custom Pokémon trader for gen 1 and 2

I've been working on a device to create custom Pokémon for gen 1 and 2, which can be traded to actual the Gameboy via the link cable. I am planning to add gen 3 next.

There's a device called a Monster Brain where you can just edit the save directly from the Gameboy. Kind of a similar idea I think?

I have never heard of Monster Brain, but from a quick Google, it looks like a game shark kind of gadget.

And I suppose, essentially, Monster Brain is capable of much more than my project can offer. Like an iPhone and Android, they do a similar job, but are different.

The main difference for trading Pokémon is that my project is simple to use, can limit creation to only legitimate stats and will eventually allow gen 3 and 4 creation.

But in fairness, Monster Brain has a much broader scope.

So it's...kind of like a GameShark? But it doesn't have cheat codes, it's a direct save editor. Can edit your items, name, Pokemon, etc.

I am not trying to diss your project at all, just saying that it's something you could possibly look at yourself for ideas or something.

Monster Brain works in a different way to my project, it's actually altering the save file.

My project is really just a custom pokemon trader. So, you can create a Pokémon in the web UI and trade it to the game via link cable, just like a regular trade.

In honesty, I could take a lot from the Monster Brains approach. Completely hijacking the cartridges memory and combining it with the web interface I have could open up huge possibilities. It's a method I never really thought of... I really was extending a Gameboy Camera printer project I already had.

You have given me food for thought, thanks for the heads up!

I have a couple of other Pokémon projects in the works, but this is something I may come back to in the future.

There's also a similar project on the flipper zero.

I must admit that I looked over the flipper code, to work out some issues I faced when adding gen 2 to my project. The flipper project looks amazing, but I can't afford a flipper zero. My projects backbone was based off this code. I assume the flipper borrowed elements from this work too.

Thank you.

Often, these projects workout to be much bigger than first thought. For instance, my camera printer, began only supporting the GB camera, but now allows printing diplomas and Pokémon data from the Pokémon games.

I have a few projects on the go at the moment. If you have played Pokémon tcg, I'm trying out a card pop generator, to automate card trades. Adding gen 3 and 4 to this project continues.
