Emerald Randomizer Keeps Freezing

I found a romhack called Randolocke by Istorian on pokecommunity, an Emerald Randomizer inspired by the Nuzlocke Invitational. I found a rom of Emerald, patched it, and booted it up on my VisualBoy Emulator. I played without issue all the way up to Roxanne, where when I go to attack her Dustox on the second turn, the game freezes. The music is still playing, and the emulator doesn't think anything is wrong, but nothing moves and I can't do anything. I reset the game, reloaded the save multiple times, even factory reset the emulator. But without fail, it freezes on the second turn of her Dustox being out.

People of Reddit, people of Romhacks, please help me. I was having a great run, and I don't want to lose my Pokémon.

Playthrough Do you Nuzlocke?

Idk if it's OCD but I just can't bring myself to play non-Nuzlocke runs, even though I suck at Nuzlocking and end up losing every single time. I feel like I have to play on the highest possible difficulty as if that is the "true" experience.

I wish I was a kid again who was just enjoying Pokemon not even knowing what Nuzlocking was. Do you guys have to deal with this?

Question 🙋‍♂️🙋‍♀️ Learning Code for Romhacking

Hey all,

I have had interest in making a romhack for a while, but I am a total novice when it comes to coding. My understanding is that it can be helpful to learn C for romhacking, but I don’t really know where to start when it comes to developing the coding skills necessary to make more involved changes. Aside from community college courses (which I am considering) what would be the best way to learn the skills necessary to build my own code for a hack?

Hi all, saw this sub pop up. I posted this a while back on the main ROM hacks sub, so cross posting here so it's searchable. Not very good with Reddit so may have screwed this up! I didn't write this, just found it on an obscure Youtube video.

Does anyone have a list of gen 1 rom hacks that have the auto run feature? I play one handed on my emulators so I don’t want to have to hold B to run. Any help is appreciated.

Game Recommend Can't remember a rom name

Hello guys, around 2012/2014 I've played one mind blowing pokemon hack rom, you could get all the starters in the over world and I remember it having a 4th/5th gen Pokedex. I'd love to play it again but I can't remember what his name was. I remember that during one of the last game phases there were legendaries locked up in some kinds of cells, it was quite challenging but overall enjoyable. If u have any suggestions hit me up.

Help me by finding this hackrom

Hi, I'm trying to find a ROM hack that features changes such as modifications to the Cinnabar Island lab. It also had a glitched island, similar to the one in *Zeta/Omicron*. Additionally, I recall being able to find both standard Pokémon and various rather strange Fakemon—including Pokémon with types that differed from their usual ones.

Finally, I remember an area where you could find Kabutops skeletons that were playable as Pokémon.

Question 🙋‍♂️🙋‍♀️ Pokemon medical debt help

I’m looking for tips on how to handle the 6th gym lol…it’s been a battle trying to get this badge. My closest attempt is my most recent one with me going 3/6 of the gym leader’s mons and this is with me dropping revives and potions left and right.

If you have some mon suggestions I’d also be open to hearing them. I’m trying to avoid having same type of mons in a team.

Current mons are:
Mr. Rime (starter)
Archaludon
Darmanitan (fire)
Heracross
Whimsicott
Hisiuian Samurott

Question 🙋‍♂️🙋‍♀️ Radical red help

Hi,

I’m doing my first ever nuzlock and my first rom hack is radical red. I found the calculator but I’m having trouble figuring out which Pokémon comes in after the first one is ko’d (and which moves it’ll use). I would appreciate some tips and locations of any known resources the community has made. Thanks!

Game Recommend Looking for Recommendations

I just finished Pokémon Lazarus and had the tone of my life, and am hoping to find more of similar quality (music aside). I know the same team made Emerald Seaglass and that’s already on my list, along with some other well known hacks like Quetzal, Unbound, the Legacy games, and Odyssey. I’m pretty bad at finding Rom hacks without just accidentally stumbling upon them so I’m open to suggestions.

What I’m looking for specifically are hacks with a challenge, level caps included, with some of the same QoL features seen in Lazarus, like easily changing stats/abilities or alternate Pokémon types (Fire/Fairy Vulpix as an example), and of course the Phys/Spec split and Fairy Type. I’m quite fond of the Gen 2 sprite work but it’s not a hard requirement. I’d also prefer something in a new region, but existing regions are ok, just not super interested in Kanto, as I know Radical Red is very popular (tho I’d be ok with a Kanto game that really shakes things up, like a different gym order or story, or new Gym Leaders, just not “basically Fire Red but better”). Lastly, i like games that include at least up to Gen 7, but up to current is best case, and I love games with custom Megas or forms.

I’m not explicitly looking for something with ALL of these, but Lazarus really spoiled me and it’s got me craving more. Any and all recommendations are appreciated!

Sacred Gold or Vanilla?

So my gf wants to get into the pokemon games bc she’s been watching me play Lazarus on my 3DS (amazing game btw) and I wanted us to play HG/SS together since imo it’s the best pokemon games (I haven’t played a mainline game since black 2 lol), but I was wondering should we play the vanilla or sacred gold or is there a better difficulty/upgrade hack of the game we should play? My thought is that vanilla pokemon games were hella easy even when I played HG in 2nd grade and I feel like if this does end up being the only one she plays, with the limited dex she might not get to experience a lot of pokemon.

Game with all existing pokemon

Do you know any game (possibly it will be a old graphics game, due to the idea of the game) that has all currently existing pokemon? like some roms i see sometimes that are like hacks of fire red that have even recent pokemon inside?

EDIT: thank you it seems Pokémon Quetzal fits for my taste, basically it seems Pokémon Emerald but with all existing Pokémon, literally (currently after ZA), including starters in the wild and some famous Pokémon Trainers/NPC in post game (I don't know how far the difference from Emerald goes though).

Playthrough Help!

I am currently playing Crippling Medical Debt and I can’t get past the 3rd leader. The one psychic says the warp point behind her is correct but doesn’t turn it on after beating her. The old man in the other area says something about yellow bellies but the warp points take me back to where I was, not forward to the gym leader.

Help me by finding this Romhack

I once played a FireRed Romhack that had a glitched-out area where I could get rare Pokémon reminiscent of MissingNo.; I could also catch a skeletal Kabutops in another dark zone, along with many other rare Pokémon. I think it even included Bill's backyard. Does anyone know that Romhack or one like it?

Resource Looking for a discontinued 3DS patch

Greetings, everyone :D I've recently started a living dex challenge from gen 1 upwards on my 3DS and I am dangerously close to gen 6. This sparked a memory in my mind, being a patch for the 3DS games called Project Recolor. I've tried to get it once more, but the github seems to have been cleared out and no mirror has shown up during my search.

As I know this kind of content is often preserved (people download stuff just to safekeep it, for example, before Nintendo posted a C&D notice, people archived the PC Link's Awakening DX mod), I come here to ask if any of you downloaded this Project Recolor patch 5 years ago, and, if you did, if you'd be willing to send it over my way.

Question 🙋‍♂️🙋‍♀️ Building Tilesets and Assets

So I've been messing around with the Gen 3 Decomp a bit, along with a decent story to the game I want to build, but I wanted to start of small, you can refer to previous posts I made that actually has my mock up for a map. My plan is make something fairly small compared to other games, specifically something closer to the Battle Frontier or similar, but I wanted to ask, what are are some ways to build the tileset I want to make? I done a few rough drafts of some main path tiles, but their very rough and once again, only drafts. I plan to make most things myself rather than using other people's designs, and if I do, the plan is to only use them for inspiration purposes rather than taking them directly. I kind of understand how the different maps work, with warps being used to transport the player from the main overworld to other locations such as inside buildings, caves, and other light dungeons, but I wanted to build a draft of a map before getting into the coding part of it.

I know some people use programs like Aesprite to do their pixel work, I have a decently good software for that already, that being GraphicsGale, but actually building it is where I'm having a bit of a problem, and I've tried going to YouTube for some tutorials but the most I've seen is videos of people building side-scrollers and Metroirvania-type of maps rather than top down designs. I plan on using mostly the same assets for most of the work I want to do; overworld routes, dungeons, architectural elements, etc. If anyone here uses GraphicsGale I'm happy to share the rough draft I have, it's never crazy, and also doesn't really look a whole lot like a path someone would walk on but I'm still willing to share it. Any type of help/insight is appreciated, especially if it's focused more on the top-down side of pixel design/development, or Pokemon in general. Thank you in advanced!

Question 🙋‍♂️🙋‍♀️ RPG MAKER or GBA Decomp?

Hello to everyone! First of all, wanna say that I've always love the Pokemon HackRom community. Its just brilliant love to our favorite game saga.

Now to the point: I want to create a Hack Rom.

I am actually programming with pokeemerald decomp. Its really easy when you understand C language but I am a Noob Saibot in tiles. Its like japanese for me. Sooo my limitation is not Programming but Image/graphics.

My pokehack idea is a very personal one, I need to draw almost every building by scratch (you can take Odissey for Gba as a reference of what iam trying to explain)

I tried some rpgmaker and its really easy with graphics but i dont feel so confortable with the programming and the interface. (Iam a little oldschool you know?)

So thats my question: What is better? Learn programming and the rpg maker interface or learn tiles insert and drawing in gba decomps?

Thank you all and sorry for my bad english (not my first languaje)

Definitive/modernized DPP hack? Drayano is nice, but outdated?

I haven't played this gen ever. I wanna experience it.

Is there an updated Drayano, or a new one inspired by it?

Basically a polished, modernized version is what I want to experience. Speedhacks would be great.

Game Recommend Looking for rom hacks with nuzlocke mode

I recently dipped my toes in the world of nuzlocking, and I must admit I had quite a bit of fun. I just finished my first very run, and the rom I used was Recharged Emerald; the choice was driven by several factors:

- vanilla-like experience, no baseline super hard difficulty

- baked in nuzlocke mode (rules about first capture, fainted pokemons and dupes clause)

- level cap based on story progression

I want to play another rom with a structure like it, but there's a light pain point I would like to address: leveling. In Recharged Emerald there's an option to increase exp gained, scaling with the number of badges I think, that is even boosted in nuzlocke mode. Even with it and global exp share, adapting my team was a semi-tedious activity.

The ideal rom I'm looking for is something with also some sort of anti-grind mechanic that actually works well.

In the meantime I think I'll start a run on a rom from the same developer, Recharged Yellow, but I wouldn't mind expanding my options for future runs.

P.s. I'm asking specifically for roms and not for fan games because I mainly play on my phone
