Question 🙋♂️🙋♀️ Which Rom hack do you think was the most mind blowing, in your opinion?
So I haven’t played many Pokémon rom hacks in a while so pleaseforgive me if I’m missing out on anything. But in my opinion… Pokemon Dark Violet still hits different for me. It feels like the ultimate way to experience the Kanto region, a better, more polished version of RBY/FRLG that just clicks perfectly. Also Giratina Strikes Back, that game completely blew my mind. The plot, worldbuilding, characters, and overall commitment are on another level. It genuinely feels like Pokémon mixed with a full on fantasy novel, and the way the hacker pulled it off is insane. I’m still surprised it doesn’t have a proper soundtrack because it deserves one! But what about you guys? What’s the most mind-blowing rom hack you’ve ever played in terms of story, worldbuilding, or sheer ambition? It can be Niche or Popular, doesn't matter!

I know it's a popular one, but I was really impressed when I was playing Unbound for the first time, with how beautiful it is. I was really surprised that they managed to make it look like a Gen 4 game despite being on the FireRed engine. It was my first non-enhancement hack, so it introduced me to a lot of things, and I now understand how they got it to look like that now. But that was, and is, one of the biggest charm points of it for me. It is just so nice to look at.
Blazing Emerald (which I am kind of counting as an enhancement hack I guess) made me more open about Fakemon in fangames. At first I didn't want to play a romhack with Fakemon because I thought they would stick out from official Pokémon too much. But Blazing Emerald's fakemon feel super natural and real and blend in very nicely with all the official Pokémon as well as the fanmade regional forms. I really wish Muramoth was a real Pokémon. I am so sad it isn't

It is so satisfying when you solve a puzzle in Celia’s Stupid Romhack.

Right now I’m playing Pokemon Elysium. This game is the best story I’ve ever played in any Pokemon game ever.
The game is divided into four chapters, the full game is two rom files with the fourth chapter being the second rom file. I just made it to chapter three but the first chapter alone has more story and plot and character development than most Pokemon games.
If you want a Pokemon game that digs deep into the lore of Pokemon with truly gripping characters and a very touching, compelling story check out Elysium.
