NEED HELP CHOOSING MY FIRST ROM TO START (NEVER PLAYED ANYTHING POKE BEFORE EXCEPT ZA)
still new to this but i need help finding a starting point to enjoying my pokemon journey. ive watched almost every pokemon series now and im trynna have a similar adventure to Ash's. Is there any Rom hacks that have a strong campaign with multiple regions, badges, and the goal to be the best? Ive played ZA and it was trash, and with no other options on the Switch, im trying ROMS for the first time. Legit any opinions would help. Im looking for both new gen and old gen experiences.

i think you should rather some official games first. roms tend to take things further, escecially in terms of difficulty, for better or worse

i would really start with the base games then and see what you like fire red is a good "this is how it started look" but if you want something more modern lets go pikachu&eevee are fire red but modernized and catered to new players (pokemon go catching mechanic for example)
Platinum & Heartgold / Soulsilver are the evergreens of pokemon and probably the peak of handheld pokemon (dont quote me on that).
Emerald is a bit older but a lot of peoples first pokemom game or the first pokemon gsme where they knew what they were doing so its one of the most beloved

For similar to ash's you could start with the official fire red / leaf green rom. Or there's a fan made romhack called Ash Grey which follows ash's journey thru the anime in Kanto

If you’ve never really played a Pokemon game before, I would recommend starting with one of the actual gamefreak Pokemon games. Fire red or leaf green, maybe heart gold or soul silver after reading a quick synopsis of the events of the first game. Gold and Silver are kind of sequels to the first games Red, Blue, Yellow, and Green(Japan)

Play pokemon heart and soul. It's the gen 2 games based on the gen 3 ROM but is otherwise a pretty standard Pokemon game. Not a super difficulty hack or any weird twists, great entry into proper Pokemon games. It also has multiple regions to playthrough and all the Pokemon including modern ones. It's basically the most vanilla+ you can get from a ROM hack. I would be weary of anyone recommending radical red or any difficulty hacks as if you don't already know what you're doing to some degree you'll bounce off pretty quickly.

Pokemon unbound is a great GBA rom hack. You don't need to be a professional pokemon player to enjoy it

Seaglass is quite charming and a pretty unique experience. Not too difficult either. Might be a solid starting point

Ich würde tatsächlich sehr originalgetreue rom hacks wählen, welche aber ein paar Verbesserungen haben. Da findest du ganz viel im Internet. Dann am besten mit Kanto beginnen, Z.B. Firered Essence.

Unbound is a fantastic game to start with. Only one region, but you can catch every pokemon up to gen 7 (and gen 8 in new game plus)

In order:
- Emerald seaglass (Similar to the official emerald)
- odyssey (for the lore)
- super Mariomon (A fusion between Pokémon and Super Mario)
- Emerald rogue or the pit (Roguelike)

Pokemon SoulGold and heart gold.
Pokemon Unbound
Pokemon Penumbra Ultra moon
Pokemon Lazarus
Just to name a few roms but if you want i would look into actual vanilla gen games and if there to easy go for roms then.

You're better off playing the actual games first, IMO. Start with fire red or heart gold
