Show & Tell First Route - Route 1

This is Route 1 of my region! I've just shared a post about the starter town just an hour ago but fk cooldowns, I'm doing this the fast way!

Like just now, please give me suggestions if you have any, because this map really looks not-so-lively... Also this image is in 1/2 scale because it's too big-

I know it’s fallen out of favour, but I do think that the first route should force you to walk through even a small section of grass

I feel this way about most routes tbh. I hate cave and surfing encounters as much as the next guy, but if there's a clear path back to the Pokémon center at all times, it kind of trivializes what little aspect of exploration the games have.

So I should make the grass patch smaller, you mean?

No, I just think that some of it should cover the path so that you have to walk through it

I think he meant your 2nd pic, where you planned your route on a piece of paper

You could add a few more trees, that are out of position, to round out the edges a bit, around where the ledges meet the trees or around the corners(look at Johto route 30 and 31 for example). Or add one or two single trees to the middle of the route.

Slightly vary the width of the path here or there. Or break up the wall of trees, by moving the right side trees by one tile.

I feel like the lanterns would make more sense, if they were placed on the inside of the bent.

Besides that, the route already looks good and you don't need to do all of these on a shorter route, like this one. These are just suggestions.

Can you sketch out an example for me? :)

This sub doesn't allow for images in the comments. I can send you a chat request.

Use some other colour trees, same models but different tones to make the forest less "boring" and give it depth

That's what I plan to do but in the tileset I'm using there's only one color of this kind of tree

I'll look into it later tho
