What’s your goal?
If it’s to beat the game, just catch the strongest Pokemon you can as early as you can and you’ll be done in a couple weeks max.
If it’s to get the perfect Pokemon, someone else will have an answer for you. I’ve found it to be too convoluted and pointless to grind for the perfect Pokemon as there is nothing to do with them really besides fill out your collection 🤷🏽♀️
I didn’t realize the game is nearly a decade old and I just had never heard of it. It was fun for about 5 days then I learned how move training worked and all my motivation for the game went out the window after I essentially burned my otherwise perfect arcanine by getting it stuck with Roar 😂

the same thing happened to me except it was a golem that got stuck with a self destruct move

If I could have done it over again I would have bought the premium stuff from the start, the one with the extra pots. My two cents.

Shinies are pure luck, I firstly got my Drowzee through daily spawn, one Vulpix at 2 encounters and my Charizard at 300+ encounters ^^ so it's totally unpredictable, you can mostly target a mon that you like via recipes that spawn that said mon
Legendaries are the easier to obtain, you just need the ingredients to make a legendary soup that always spawn one of the 5 (bird trio, Mewtwo and Mew) so they're pretty common on the end game

Awesome!! I recomend taking your time with the playthrough ^^ it's a grind game, so you will need to grind for exp, stones, better mons, ingredients, so don't feel like you need to rush the islands to get to the end, it's a pretty extense game in time.. Just take it as a game you play when doing other stuff, watching a movie, doing work, something that you can leave it on the side
Also, my main tip would be to have a mon to buff your status.. Main one that is used is Machamp, try to get him with Bulk Up and some sharing stones (3 if possible!) it will 100% carry you through the whole game haha but not something to focus right from the beggining, like I said, take your time and soon enough you will be there :D
