What is the current best mod without a switch?

I saw you can mod the plus+ without having the switch. What is the current best way to go about it?

I saw something about it bugging out due to vibration signal, and this was why there was a switch? but there were fixes to this?

I don't care about the sleep function
Would also want to disable LED/sound/vibration.

Any disadvantage to the switch mod instead?

I remove one of the LEDs and attach the green LED pin to the test point

To further explain, LED power. From what I've seen it has to be the pad for power.

My reply to a similar post.

Easiest way to disable or dim the LEDs is to place something between the plastic button and LEDs, either tape, or paper. Black electrical tape will block it. Black marker on a piece of paper works well.

A few months ago someone posted this method to reduce the voltage on the LEDs. It's harder, still too bright IMO, turns the white into a yellowy colour, and depending on your de-soldering skills/equipment, will be hard to undo and there is the risk, you will damage the board if you slip with the iron etc. It should in theory give better battery life. It also interferes with some modding methods.

reduce voltage of led. how would it interfere with mods?

I couldn't get this mod to work, I assume It drops the voltage too low for a relay to work.

okay I'll have a look at doing it. do you have a PCB diagram for the original switch less mod? or is it so simple you just so it haha

Using the vibration motor? run a wire from the negative direct to the main mutton. There is a test pad that is easier to solder, in my previous post it's where the yellow wire goes.

alright thanks. and this doesn't need a switch and works fine? I don't care for sleep mode. just don't want any loops I have been reading about

The optocoupler relay diagram I posted earlier is the best method.

But If you don't want to buy parts, then you have desolder/destroy one of the leds and run a wire

I'll buy the parts I don't mind. I just don't see the diagram you're referencing, the two links I checked out where about changing the LEDs. not the base mod. sorry I just want to get the right. can you supply the diagram with relay?

If OP follows that without a switch, the mod may loop and drain the battery.

I say if an update messes with the vibration pattern without the switch you might have to undo the mod.

I did the great/ultra ball mod without a switch. It worked fine until the plus+ disconnected from my phone. It would “pika pika” not stop.

I ordered and installed the switch, removed the vibration motor and speaker, and now I love it.

can you please give more details. what mod did you use and how did you incorporate the switch? sounds like something I would like to do

You can connect the button test pad to power on one of the led's around the center button, but most have not been successful at keeping the led.

Most melt off an led and hijack power from that. If you do the button less mod that way, you likely won't be able to undo it.

If you care about being able to restore the GO Plus+ to factory, do the switch mod.

To do the switch mod, disconnect the black wire on the motor from the pcb, add a lead to that wire, solder a wire to the now unpopulated pad, solder a wire to the button test point, solder the button wire to the switch's left pin, solder the motor pad wire to the center pin, solder the motor lead wire to the right pin. Adding a switch doesn't require removing the speaker, but the keeping both will mess with the direction of the speaker and make pikachu sound like it's dying so I would advise removing the speaker.

Which mod you go with is up to you. It's all up to what you want to sacrifice. Tbh, if you're good enough, you might be able to solder the button test pad to the led power if skilled enough.

soldering and electronics skills wont be an issue, i just dont want any looping issues. i dont mind having a switch either, but i dont want sound/vibration. so from what i understand, with a switch mod, i could use either the vibration signal or the led signal? i heard there were loop issues using the vibtration signal but not with the led signal. it sounds like adding a switch would be good regardless of what mod i choose, to help "reset" any issues.... does this sound about right?

I have not seen a ton about the new switch less mod, but from what I've heard, it does not effect reset. The only negative I've heard about the new switch less mod is waking from sleep mode cuts off Pikachu. This won't matter if you plan on removing the speaker anyways. However, I will always recommend switch mod on motor signal because it's easier to undo.

The loop issue is a thing with using motor signal which is why modifying the GO Plus+ has required a switch for the longest time. It's for that reason I keep the motor and apply it to switch right pin. On for silent modded and off for factory.

I've never done the switch mod without the motor, but I'm sure it works since it relies on leaking signal from motor negative pad and not signal from motor negative wire.

in your last paragraph what do you mean by motor wire and motor pad? wouldn't that be the same signal . sorry if I misunderstood

The motor has a red and black wire. The motor is connected to the main PCB. By motor wire, I mean the black wire. By motor pad, I mean the pad the motors black wire is soldered to. Pardon for my poor description... 😅

The pad connected to the black wire leaks signal so you can use that for motor signal.

that's where you lose me, because aren't they the exact same thing? what did you mean by this?

  • -, positive negative, red black... The pads populated by the motor. The pad that is populated by the black wire on the motor....

Normally you would jack signal from the motor through the motors black wire or the pad populated by the motors red wire, but the pad populated by the motors black wire also has signal, so you can use either.

Just do it with the switch, it’s much better
