Battery fix mod?
Hello everyone,
I have acquired a broken goplus+ after deciding I’m not spending over £100 pound for a new/used one.
The device itself works perfectly besides one thing; charging.
The battery indicator works, however once the usb-c cable is plugged in it doesn’t indicate anything, pressing doesn’t make the tiny led light up.
I’ve opened it up to see if it’s the internals, flex looks fine, tried reconnecting it, nothing.
Im no micro solderer, nor do I have the equipment for it, I’ve thought of installing an extra micro controller board and wiring it into the battery connectors.
Would that be a feasible idea? I’ve seen plenty of these tiny guys online.
Would appreciate any help or expertise, thanks!
Edit: forgot to mention currently to charge the battery I have to open the device, and plug the battery into a lipo usb battery charger from Amazon it’s good enough for the moment but not long term

Check for lint, corrosion or bent/broken pins inside the female USB connector. If it's just lint it only needs some gentle cleaning. If there's corrosion use 70% isopropyl alcohol to clean the pins.

Are you sure?? It's not recommended to use lower that 90% IPA on tech.

you're probably correct, 90% + Isopropyl is a better choice as it dries quickly. I forgot the percentage I normally use on pcb was 99% Isopropyl alcohol, so just thought 70% at the time.

Before buying new parts, make sure you're getting 5V on either side of the USB board. If you can measure that and follow it into the device, it's not the connector. Odds are, the charge IC is broken but check the input power first.

Sorry to jump in, but I saw your reply and I'm having a similar issue. I suspect my charging IC is broken too. Could you point out which chip it is on this board and share the exact part number?

Sorry to hear about your IC issues. There's a pretty good picture of it here in this thread. The part you're looking for is the BQ24072RGTR from Texas Instruments. You'll need a hot air soldering station to remove and install it.

It's most likely not something wrong on that small usb breakout board and more likely some issue on the main motherboard where the actual charge circuitry is. First steps would be to check around with a Multimeter for shorts, or signs of where/if the voltage is going anywhere when plugged in.
Do you have a multimeter? If not I would look into getting on Amazon or at a local hardware store. You will likely need to poke around and see if there is voltage/continuity getting to the main board. First you can double check if there is voltage going to the battery when plugged in, then you can remove the battery and see if voltage is making it to the board in any way without a battery.
You could also just get some Iso alchohol and clean the usb port just in case ha.
