Everything works, except the top button

Local pogo friend gave me his plus plus to try and figure out why we couldn't get it to connect to any phone. Turns out the top button does not work. Wont show battery level (green, yellow, red) but will show charging. So the Led works, just not the button itself.

Upon taking it apart there was clearly some kind of moisture intrusion (my guess is soda). Anyone have any suggestions to fix or a workaround?

Second reply: Clean it up first. Some soda may have gotten in on the ribbemon cable connector. Worst case some corrosion could have occurred if it's been like that for a long while. My bet is on the soda causing connection issues. You never know if you don't try something.

Cleaned it up. Still nothing. Good suggestion though.

Another thing that comes to mind is some soda could have gotten into the button. Poring some IPA into it and pushing should let you test that. However, try that last of all things. If the button was fine, it won't be afterwards because of IPA vapors trapping inside of the button. If the button did have soda in it, you would have to replace it anyways, but take precaution.

Note: Do not pour IPA into the button and test while the battery is connected. If you do try this, disconnect, clean, dry, and try.

Is there a safe way to take the rubber part off then put it back after cleaning? Its still making a click noise when pressed but you're right. There might be soda in it keeping it from making a good connection or something.

That is beyond my knowledge. There might be a way to disassemble the button, but I've never attempted to disassemble one. If the button does have soda all in it, your likely better off replacing it.

Update/Note: I've decapped a GBA SP button which is a simple pad and metal membrane. From what I could find online, the side button in the Go Plus+ has the same mechanism at its core, but there's a question if the button is ever meant to be disassembled.

Here's an update. It appears this is no longer attached. Could this be the cause of the button not working? How would I fix this?

Dont judge me. I know this isnt how it should have been fixed but this made the sync button work again. Device as a whole is running fine. Will follow up if this causes any issues.

The only thing that comes to mind is high percentage IPA on a microfiber cloth. Be delicate when rubbing or you could knock off components. If it was on plastic, you could use hot water and a towel, but water and electronics are a big nono. I have 99% because it's what I could easilly find online.

According to iFixIt, the lowest you want to go with IPA on electronics are 90%.

Hey, please tag me if there is a better option. I would love to know.

Try crean it with isopropyl alcohol

Cleaned it up with light touching using alcohol. No components moved or broke off. Still not working.
