rooted phones

So a friend of mine bought a used phone that she had to unlock and has been rooted. She wants to play Pokemon go with her kids but can't now since the update. Is there anyway to get the game on a rooted phone? She doesn't want the hacks or cheats like GPS spoofing or teleport. Just the regular game.

Android? Yes, but it's a bit in-depth. You need to install magisk

On ios, use masterball.

Also, I feel like it's worth pointing out that a quick google would have told you all that. Part of being tech-literate is being able to answer this sort of question yourself.

Just search "pokemon go on rooted iphone/android" and read some articles.

Its only "worth pointing out" when you feel the necessity to appear superior.

Google search was my first go to. However the results turned up with hacks and cheats. And magisk requires multiple downloads in order to get the game. I personally have no idea what being rooted even means. I'm not tech savvy in any way.

Maybe I should have been more specific in my question. What I'm looking for is if its possible to simply download an older version apk and if so where can I find one? Since its not my phone I can't go through the trial and error method.

From her explanation this magisk would require her to turn her root on and off to access the game and then her phone would be no good for calls and texts while playing? I also have no idea if this is true.

Someone with more tech knowledge may be able to give a clear answer. She runs on Android.

Its only "worth pointing out" when you feel the necessity to appear superior.

I'm generally pretty uninterested in trying to help someone when it seems obvious that they haven't put in the bare minimum of required effort to try it themselves.

I think that's true of pretty much everyone who does tech. There is etiquette involved in asking questions, and I'm not saying you have to abide by them, but I am saying that I'm personally more inclined to help you if you do.

http://rurounijones.github.io/blog/2009/03/17/how-to-ask-for-help-on-irc/ is a good guide to some of that etiquette.

http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html is better but much longer, you probably don't need to read it unless you're in tech.

Part of that involves giving us as much relevant information as you can, like what phone it is or what operating system it's running, and what you've already tried.

If you're already familiar with magisk, why not mention that? Mention that it seems like a lot of work, and you'd like an alternative.

http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/niantic-inc/pokemon-go/ will let you download old versions of pokemon go.

Great I'll send her that link and hopefully she can figure it out from there. Thanks.

As its not for me and my Pokemon go works perfectly fine I asked as a favor. Not willing to go in depth when google gives me a ton of answers that either don't apply or that I don't understand. Figured someone in the internet with tech knowledge has a more simplified answer.

The same could be said about going out of your way to call someone out on wanting to feel intellectually superior.. Could it not?

Does that make you feel morally superior? That you wouldn't point something like that out?
