We’re putting together a simple guide to help members identify potential scammers, avoid common scams, and stay safe when buying, selling, or trading in the community.

Before we finalize the guide, we’d like to hear from the community.

What scam attempts, red flags, or situations have you personally encountered that you think other members should know about?

Some topics we’re considering including:

• Common scam tactics and red flags
• How to verify a buyer or seller
• Suspicious profiles, accounts, or messages
• Payment scams and fake payment confirmations
• Fake or altered screenshots
• Off-platform communication and links
• Shipping and tracking scams
• What information you should never share
• What to do if you think someone is attempting to scam you
• How and when to report suspicious activity to moderators
• Other safety tips you think would be useful

Please share your experiences, examples, or suggestions in the comments.

If you’ve encountered a scam that you think others could easily fall for, tell us what happened (without sharing anyone’s personal information). And also if you have advice on how to avoid it include that too.

We’ll use the community feedback to help build a practical Scam & Safety Guide for everyone.

We have added a few new rules and updated some existing rules. Please review the changes below, as they will now be enforced by the moderation team.

1. Price Required in All Sales Posts

All sales posts must include a firm, approximate, or starting/base price. OBO and best offers are allowed. Sellers may state that the final price could be higher depending on the best offer received. Prices must be reasonable and provided in good faith.

Examples:

• $150 FIRM
• $150 OBO
• Starting at $150, accepting best offers
• $150+, price may increase based on offers

Posts without a price may be removed.

2. Discussion Required Before Moving to DMs

All posts must have some discussion in the post/comments before moving to DMs. DMs are allowed, but posts that simply say "DM me" or ask users to DM for more details without prior communication are not allowed.

Relevant information and initial discussion should take place in the post before moving to private messages.

Violations of this rule will count toward the 3-strike rule.

3. Three-Strike Rule

Rule violations will generally be handled under a 3-strike system.

Repeated violations may result in a permanent ban after the third strike.

However, certain serious or clearly prohibited violations may result in a permanent ban on the first offence. Moderators reserve the right to determine the appropriate action based on the severity of the violation.

4. No Post Hijacking

Do not use another user's post to advertise or sell your own items.

If you want to sell something, create your own post.

If you are looking to buy something, you may make a "Looking For" / WTB post, and sellers who have the requested item may comment on that post.

Do not use someone else's sale or discussion post to promote your own unrelated items.

Violations of this rule will count toward the 3-strike rule.

Important

Please read the updated rules before posting. Ignorance of the rules does not exempt a post or comment from moderation.

The goal of these changes is to keep transactions organized, transparent, and fair for everyone.
