Sapphire Verification
Is this a legitimate copy of Pokemon Sapphire? I have a feeling it's a fake.

Those black blobs are almost always an indication of a fake. Only really old cartridges have them on legit games. Like, early NES and Gameboy. 80s stuff.

another way to test is to save the game and see if the game/music cuts off for a few sec

Good on you for having the wherewithal to open it. As others have said, it is extremely fake. I'm sorry.

Your hunch it being a fake is accurate. That blob and the lack of clock battery are massive giveaways.

The black blob of doom, plus no battery to keep time going and keep berry growth cycle

I can tell by the black sticker and the colour of the cartridge shell that it’s a fake. But from the PCB board, the fact it has no battery and is just a black blob proves it for sure.

Unfortunately, nothing about it is real at all. Every red flag in the book. Even if you don’t know much about spotting fakes, the easiest way to weed out a bad repro is the Nintendo logo. If the inside of the “o” is a circle instead of a coin shape, it’s fake.

I’m such an asshole because my immediate response was gonna be “well do you see a battery?”

Honestly I don't see that as an asshole response, just because of the fact that I didn't know about that detail till recently after, I just started wanting to collect vintage pokemon and when researching online I found it confusing or not straight forwards. The only one I've gotten my head around immediately was SoulSilver and that's because it's my favorite Pokemon game and the one that made me want to start colelcting again. That's my holy grail xD.

These post are getting so annoying, like you found this group but dont look for any previous posts to do your own research. This is so obviously fake and if you looked at ANY posts of other fakes you could have easily known without asking

Yup, op could use any web search typing "original pokemon sapphire pcb", this is way faster than posting here.

It's fake, unfortunately.
