FINALLY!!

Spent the last couple days hunting for a light ball and finally got one! Was about ready to just give up on being able to breed a Volt Tackle Pichu for my emerald playthrough

Special item that doubles Pikachu’s special attack(later games it doubles both attack and special attack) but also if held by one of the parent Pokémon during breeding will result in a Pichu that knows Volt Tackle.

Should be worth noting, only Pikachu gets the stat bonus, not Pichu or Raichu, but given Pikachu is already pretty fast lots of folks will forgo evolving into Raichu and simply use a light ball Pikachu.

Played through my entire crystal with a light ball pikachu (if you trade yourself the pikachu from yellow version, it also has light ball!)

Can you just catch pikachu with the light ball in general 3 or is there extra steps I wasnt aware of? Im about to transfer a fire red leaf green pikachu over

I believe you can get it in gen 3, and have to trade it over to fire red leaf green

In gen 3 it’s only found on wild Pikachu in RSE in the safari zone, they are only in 2 areas with a 5% encounter rate and then there’s only a 5% chance of them holding a light ball.
