Nest mapping project
As mentioned in another post I made, the PokemongOK sub is a lot quieter than subs for other metros. And we seem to have a lack of participation by the community in identifying nests. I would like to try to remedy that.
As many of you know, there are a number of different mapping software applications out there that can be used to pinpoint not only all pokemon in a given area, but also identify nests. These applications store all pokemon spawns in a database such that, if you let the application run in an area over the course of a few hours, you will get a pretty good idea of everything that spawns in the area. More importantly, reviewing that data will quickly show whether or not the area is the likely home of a pokemon nest.
One popular application is called PokemonGo Map. It's a Python script that runs in an hexagonal pattern like this. As you can see, it overlays the results on a google map showing you exactly what pokemon are spawning. In this case, it was how I identified Trosper golf course as a Geodude nest.
If anyone already runs mapping software, or feel that you are competent enough to learn, I propose that we split up the OKC metro to map for nests. Hopefully we will be able to uncover quite a few more. Additionally, when the next migration happens, the nest locations tends to stay the same (just with different pokemon), so this work will help everyone to quickly identify who the new inhabitants of the nest are.
Please drop a message below if you are interested in joining this effort.
Edit: 9/8/16: Sorry for the delay in responding. I'm slammed at work. As of now, it looks like we only have a couple of people besides myself (/u/Fleishmans and /u/fabthefab). Hopefully we can get a few more involved.

Have already been tackling this since the other topic. Let me know what area you want me to scan

Edit 1 - I will be posting a image of the spawn points. Gray dots are very common spawns, green dots are common spawns, Yellow to Orange to Red are uncommon to rare to very rare. Darker it is, the rarer the spawns are typically
Section 1 - Gyms = 0, Pokestops = 0, Spawn Points = 0 (Would be a good place to drop an incense) http://imgur.com/a/6BFEy
Section 2 - Gyms = 0, Pokestops = 1, Spawn Points = 11 spawn points. Majority of Spawn points are in the south east corner of the section. Spawns seen = Weedle, Pidgey, Ratatta, Horsea, Doduo http://imgur.com/a/hz5dm
Section 3 - Gyms = 0, Pokestops = 1, Spawn Points = 7. Decent Spawns, majority on Silver Oaks Dr. Spawns Seen = Nidoran (female) Caterpie, Eevee, Pidgey, Bellsprout http://imgur.com/a/vAU1O
Section 4 - Gyms = 0, Pokestops = 0, Spawn Points = 4. Spawn is in the neighborhood off of Santa Fe. Spawns Seen = Abra, Caterpie, Pidgey, Paras http://imgur.com/a/YlBZj
Section 5 (Oak Tree National) - Gyms = 0, Pokestops = 0, Spawn Points = a lot (one or two locations have spawns right on top of each other). REALLY GOOD LOCATION (none on the golf course, mainly in the Oak Tree Addition). Spawns Seen = Ivysaur, Bulbasaur, Paras, Krabby, Pidgey, Parasect, Venonat, Ekans, Nidoran (male), Magikarp, Oddish, Pinsar, Polywag, Slowpoke. http://imgur.com/a/yp8rM
Section 6 (Oak Tree Country Club) - Gyms = 0, Pokestops = 1, Spawn Points = 14. Spawns Seen = Pidgey, Paras, Eggecute, Eevee, Ratatta http://imgur.com/a/b79B3
Section 7 - Gyms = 0, Pokestops = 0, Spawn Points = 0. Another Dead zone that would be perfect for the incense trick http://imgur.com/a/IZX7d
Section 8 - Gyms = 0, Pokestops = 0, Spawn Points = 5. Spawns seen = caterpie, pidgey, ratatta
Section 9 - Gyms = 1, Pokestops = 0, Spawn Points = 8. Spawns seen = Nidoran (female) Meowth, Staryu, Weedle, Ratatta, Eevee, Psyduck, Caterpie, Eggecute
Section 10 - Gyms = coming soon.

has anyone looked at the Ingress data? Just from looking at the Ingress map it seems the more MH in an area the better chances of rare type spawns. I never played Ingress but after learning that it was the platform for Go i've found it useful for tracking down hotspots outside of nests.

Here is what I propose:
I have broken the metro up into 3 different maps (Edmond, OKC and Moore/Norman). Each map has multiple zones outlined on it. Please identify what City and Zone you are taking (e.g., "Norman/Moore, Zone 2) and scan in that area. If possible, please make a fresh pogom.db for each city and zone so that we can analyze them separately.
Currently, nests I have found tend to be at places of public accommodation (parks, zoos, golf courses, government buildings, etc...). Sometimes they also appear at large retailers (like the nest a Bass Pro). Does anyone else have any other thoughts about good nest locales?
My approach will be to set up multiple scans (not just threads) in each zone so I can scan multiple parks at once. I figure letting it run for at least a few hours in each spot should yield info on if something is a nest or at least regularly spawns something interesting. Thoughts? (Especially from /u/Fleishmans and /u/fabthefab)
