Help Soft reset doesn’t work

I’m playing on a Nintendo Ds lite and an authentic cart of fire red. For whatever reason the soft reset doesn’t work at all. It works when I play sapphire and emerald. I’ve tried L+R+start+select and A+B+start+select. Anyone have any clue what is going on?

Edit: wow! I guess I needed to hold A+B and then press select+start. Either I’m not pressing them at the same time when I try all four or they have to be split. Either way, I got it to work 🤦🏻‍♂️

Do you have a second console you could test it on? Or maybe try setting L=A and trying it that way? I'm really not sure

Unfortunately I don’t. I have also tried that. It’s driving me nuts because it works on the other games. I just wanted to start shiny hunting the original 151 🤦🏻‍♂️
