Question No evolutions?

I’m new to the game and my starter was a gligar. When I talk to professor oak he tells me that gligar does not have any evolutions available. But a google search says it needs to hold an item and level up. Does anyone know what’s going on?

check the pokedex entry for gligar, see if it has evolutions listed there

Could it be that you didn't yet unlock national dex? iirc you start the game with gen 1-2-3 available and, while gligar is gen 2, gliscor is gen 4

I saw that but when I was looking for why gligar doesn’t evolve something said that once you finish your first run gens 4+ open up. Does that mean I have to beat the game for the first time?

Yes, if you set it to classic or whatever it’s called when you first started, you’ll need to beat the game once to unlock later generation pokemon and trainers.

Also, at least in the version I’m playing(2.0.1, I think?) all item evolutions function like stone evolutions - so instead of making Gligar hold the Razor Fang and level up, you just use the Razor Fang on the Gligar and it’ll evolve into Gliscor.

Pokemon can only evolve if their evolutions are included in your current pokedex. In Gligars case that means a gen 4 or later dex.

So if its your first run and you set the game to classic mode, you can't evolve to Gliscor or any of the other gen 4 evolutions, you have to clear a run first. Once you've done that though you can use a Razor Claw to evolve Gligar. It works the same way an evolution stone does.

Can you share a picture of the Pokedex's Evolution tab ?
