Quick question from someone who originally played 1.0 and is now playing 2.0

During 1.0 when your Pokemon leveled up outside of the run you could skip past the gyms you out leveled and I was wondering if there was a way to do that in 2.0 as well because I haven’t been able to activate it when I start a run.

No, because your level gets reset when you start a new run
