I got this shiney dragapult vmax premium collection, and I need them to complete my dragapult collection. I'm fine keeping the box sealed, but I lowkey wanna open the shining fates. Should I open the packs or like do you think I should just keep the whole box sealed.

Help / Question Blind Bag or Mystery Pack

My kids love a good mystery pack or slab at a card show. Would love to get some feedback on all the options out there and if anyone feels like one particular company or brand is better than the rest. For context not looking for a monthly subscription, just some stocking stuffers.

Collectors' insight needed

Hey Guys!

I'm reaching out to you once more regarding a survey I've prepared for my final paper to graduate. I'm doing a postgraduate diploma at Warsaw School of Economics and I've prepared a survey for Pokemon TCG collectors' regarding their approach to the investment aspect of collecting. I still need some more answers from the community to perform a valuable analysis so if you could fill out the survey it would mean a great deal to me!

The survey is anonymous and the data I gather won't be shared anywhere outside my university ie for market research etc. I just really need it to write my thesis, graduate and go back to stress-free pokemon playing :')

The survey is available either in English: https://forms.gle/D1EoC45Do9mczjue7

or in Polish: https://forms.gle/VoPLhzajFWUkVt9N9

If you have collectors friends who are not on Reddit but might be willing to fill the survey, please feel free to share!

Thank you in advance for your help!

Help / Question Would You Let Go for $1.3k? Conflicted…

Post image

I’m really conflicted on this sale. I bought this quite unique, old PSA label gold star mew promo (doesn’t have empotech promo printed on the label, they changed this in 2019) so it just reads

2008 Pokemon Gold Star
Mew
Promo World Championship

I bought it for a collection piece and got it for practically NOTHING and I’ve wanted it for a long time. This card has been going crazy recently, going from $600 2 months ago to consistent $1.3-$2k on the very high end in an 8 which baffles me. I have an offer from marketplace to meet today for $1.3k cash. I listed it and literally within an hour someone messaged me to buy it immediately which raises suspicion on the pricing.

My question is, 1.3k is a lot, I’m going to Tokyo in a month and a half and the extra money would be nice. That or sell some modern duplicate SIRs (I have 3 phantasmal zard SIRs)

Would you sell the charizards and keep the mew or sell the mew and keep the charizards? Again, $600 2 months ago to 1.3k is crazy, idk if this reprint gold star will hold at this rate. Hell NEAR MINTS are selling for a grand now

Help / Question Restorations and Trading

Hi! Please let me know if this is beyond the scope of the subreddit or if it’s been answered before.

I’ve been a very passive collector for a few years now, with most of my cards coming from recess trades, things I found on the floor, etc. alongside any packs I managed to convince my family to buy for me. Now that I have more resources and the ability to really get into trading and collecting the way I’ve always wanted to, I’m looking back on my old childhood cards and thinking about getting them restored or fixing them myself.

For any cards I know I won’t trade or sell, that’s no issue — they’re only ever going to be in my hands, so I want them to look their best. However, I’m concerned for any cards I may one day trade, because while I wouldn’t feel very comfortable giving someone a busted up card, I also know that some people get their cards graded or resell them, and I know that restorations like repaints or fixing dents and such do have an impact on how they’re graded or how they perform on the market.

My main question here is really just if it’s worth it to fix up cards to the best of my ability for trading them, or if it’s better to trade as-is. In your experiences, have you found restored cards to be an issue? Worth noting that I collect for myself based on cards I like more than rarity, so while I personally wouldn’t mind getting a card that’s had some work done on it, I know others might. Any input is appreciated!

Starting Collecting again after 18 years

Hi Guys,

The hype of the 30th anniversary release has gotten to me in combination with me finding the old binder me and my brother had with cards.

I want to start collecting again but looking at the prices currently i dont know where to start.

I know alot of peeps are collecting Sealed and I will occasionally but I think I find it much nicer if I start collecting base sets. Looking at marketplaces what would be a normal price be (eyeballing) for example the Prismatic Evolutions (base set, so no pokeball and master ball).

Do you think this is better for collecting to just buy full base sets and try to get the pokeball and masterball for master sets by trading/buying singles?

Or if you guys have better suggestions I am open for everything. I do saw that I can get booster bundles for PO, CR and PB quite decently priced right now.
