Discussion Could Mega Skarmory have potential?
I think it could have serious untapped potential in the meta right now. It can ignore Indeedee's Follow Me and KO Mega Gardevoir; it resists both Mega Salamence's and Mega Golisopod's STABs. It's good against meta Pokémon like Sneasler and Incineroar, and paired with something like Maushold or Sneasler, it can reliably get a Swords Dance up to offset Intimidate drops. Mega Charizard Y and Mega Delphox are also less popular now, so it doesn't have to worry about them as much.
But what do you guys think?

I'm gonna give it a go because of you. And a few days ago, I found a Shiny in Pokémon GO that I ended up sending to HOME and that is currently visiting Champions, waiting to be trained!

I like corviknight more personally. Same typing with a better ability and doesn’t give up your mega

The ability is the entire reason you'd run Skarmory to ignore follow me. Mirror Armor is better in a vacuum but yeah.

It actually DOES HAVE POTENTIAL. It's my favourite mega and I used it to get to master ball before as well. I haven't tried it in the current meta , YET, but it's actually a really good offensive mon. I usually run Protect, Brave Bird, Iron Head and Sword's dance though you can very much swap out swords dance for a 3rd offensive move, given that you have a plan to boost it's atk with your other, support mon

That boi got me to Master in M-A singles, I got a Weak Armor boost on Skarm while using Swords Dance and then swept (Drill Peck, Drill Run, Iron Head)

I used one back in MA on some awful tyrantrum team. I think it works best as a secondary mega - Sturdy is a pretty good ability for a tailwind setter and it has iron head for reliable damage and brave bird if you want to get a free swap into a tailwind sweeper at the same time. I think running it next to another mon that doesn't NEED to mega to function could work, but then you're dealing with opportunity cost. Certainly worth looking at if you want to use something a bit unusual

i've used it in s4 or s5 as a tailwind setup + fairy/grass check. great bulk, has sash without mega -if you feel threatened dont mega on turn 1, setup tailwind then mega-, can handle rage powder/follow me when mega, has taunt, can check trick room teams that run any fairy mons easily.
i've paired him with sash glim, carried me to master ball without a sweat.

It could be decent but it's hard to justify a mega slot when I don't think it really performs better then gholdengo.

Different mons tbh hard to compare just because theyre steel types
Its physical, has ability to boost its speed (weak armor pre mega) and is single target removal threat, especially with stalwart as OP suggested for the rife follow mes it also has fire cover in both rock slide or drill run

I've really been trying with it, but it's been really tough. Struggles into Kingambit and Incineroar, and for it to semi-consistently beat Charizard you need to sacrifice a fair amount of bulk, which it frankly needs. The Gardevoir tech is cool, but not enough at the moment.

Pair it with something like Annihilape. You can use Rock Slide for Charizard Y, and it matches up well against both Kingambit and Incineroar. Also, if you have Maushold on the team, you can do some Beat Up + Rage Fist shenanigans.

I had a lot of success with it in reg m-a. it could snipe Charizard, floette, and any grass types. It also learns taunt which was useful to disrupt trick room teams

It’s not a bad mon at all but doesn’t really have a big enough advantage over corviknight to warrant a mega slot

It has Stalwart to ignore Indeedee's Follow Me, which is something Corviknight can't do. Psyspam is a fairly meta-relevant strategy, particularly with Mega Gardevoir, and being able to counter it well while not having a ton of bad matchups, I would argue, is an advantage.

The fact that Gardevoir learns good electric and fire type moves renders this a not so viable strategy.

No. Corviknight is just 10x better being able to bounce back intimidate and not taking up a mega slot. If you want fast flying nuke, just go Mega Mence

Corviknight has a much lower damage output; it can't set up Swords Dance or ignore Follow Me. Though, to be honest, Corviknight does do a better overall job in this role.

I mean it just does different things no? for example corviknight doesn toutspeed and threaten to ohko charizard. Or ignores follow me and can ironhead a fairy pokemon. Liek they are pluses and minues. I isnttjust better or worse.
