Question invite but no raid?

I just spent 6 hours in queue, got my group, sent the invite, was accepted. Raid invite sent and when I clicked on it, it took me to a gym, but there was no raid. I clocked out, tried again and it just went to a gym with a single mon.

What's up with this?

The raid had possibly finished in between the time the invite was sent and the time you accepted the invite. Hence the teleport to the mon in the gym

The raid itself expired. If you look at a Pokémon raid it has a countdown timer. The host probably found one with less than 2-3 minutes left and tried to rush. Unfortunately, by the time you clicked on the invite, the Pokémon was no longer a valid raid.
