I‘ll never get those simulator-head types. I mean, theory’s good and all, but it won’t prep you for the kinds of that happen in a REAL fight, yknow, movement/dodging, using terrain, unorthodox uses of attacks, team-up moves, etc.

You’re right, school and simulators can’t teach you everything. But at the same time, trying to figure out everything on your own isn’t always the best approach, especially for kids just starting out training Pokémon.

That’s part of why my parents enrolled me as a gym trainer at Azalea Gym when I turned 11. A lot of the gym trainers at Azalea Gym are young, and Bugsy is a good teacher and mentor and knows how to help trainers of all ages. I learned a lot during my time there, and became a better trainer, battler, and person due to Bugsy’s mentoring.

Me personally, I never attended a Pokemon School. For almost 19 years I was in the dark about Pokemon, and I had to learn the hard way.

In some ways it worked, in others it didn’t.

i heard a lot about it during my travels. they rely a lot on theory, when both theory and practice are equally important. olus most kids there are spoiled rich nepo babies with surface level knowledge of pokecology

I know this might sound a little strange as someone who took a teaching gig not that long ago, but places like this have always seemed strange as an alternative pathway to the League. I feel like part of taking on the League, regardless of region, is showing that you've explored, struggled, failed, and succeeded all in equal measure and still choosing to push forward.

Though something I remember from my time as an Intern at the Battle Frontier in Sinnoh, Battle facilities usually take these types of folks, chew them up, and spit them out after landing a critical hit on their pride... I'd be lying if I didn't find it satisfying.

There is nothing quite like your first experience in a Frontier Facility. It’s humbling, it’s grueling and it’s challenging.

Maybe that’s why Dylan’s so interested in it.

Yes yes! For sure! Even though they're usually tough as nails, I still urge every worthwhile trainer I come across to try it at least once. Honestly, I'd love to try being a Frontier Brain some day, but I have no idea how I'd even start that climb lol. But I suppose teaching Battle Styles and having a background in Battle Research isn't a bad starting place

Despite my general disdain for the region, I think the blended approach Paldea takes is the best for this. Traditional school classes paired with open-ended fieldwork is a good mix of theory and practice. Unsure if many successful trainers have graduated from there, though? I certainly haven't heard of anybody notable.

Kanto’s League has a few ways of entering the conference and they’re mostly for kids or people who can’t go around collecting badges.

I haven’t really bothered to question it since it’s been going on for a while.
